About this property

This newly updated detached modern cottage is perfectly located in the heart of Porthleven, a small, picturesque harbour town and fishing port in south west Cornwall. Situated between Land’s End and Lizard Point, this lovely cottage exudes Cornish charm and comfort and is the perfect base for an ideal family holiday. Tucked away behind the main street, this delightful cottage, with off road parking for two cars and an enclosed garden, is an upside down house with both bedrooms being on the ground floor, and the comfortable, well-designed, living area on the first floor. This consists of a kitchen with dining area, (divided from the sitting area) where you can relax with a refreshing drink whilst planning the day ahead. Outside, the patio is the ideal place to relax after a day spent touring or on the beach. It is worth getting up early one morning to see the small fishing boats land their daily catch on the harbour, much of which is sold in the local cafés and restaurants, as well as the award-winning fishmongers. Porthleven has for many years attracted visitors who want to get away from it all and be inspired by the beautiful natural surroundings and the way of life. Local boat trips, fishing trips and kayaking are all available from the harbour. With a choice of superb restaurants, cafes and pubs all within a couple of minutes' walk from the cottage, as well as art and craft galleries and individual shops to peruse, Porthleven really is the perfect holiday town. Add to this the unspoilt beach and a location that easily allows you to explore the magnificent Lizard Peninsula and all its coves and pretty villages, and you will see why this cottage offers you a holiday that you will always remember.

Porthleven is one of south west Cornwall’s hidden, coastal gems, located near Helston, famous for its annual Flora Dance Festival. Situated between Lizard Point and Land’s End, Porthleven faces directly into the Atlantic Ocean, giving it a more raw and rugged feel than a lot of the more sheltered harbours along the Cornish coast. The iconic clock tower sits on the harbour entrance and the pubs, shops, cafés and restaurants cluster around the historic inner harbour, where there is plenty of boating and marine activity. With a warren of streets lined with classic Cornish, granite cottages, a beach manned with lifeguards, the chance for alfresco dining and crabbing off the harbour, there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy in Porthleven, all year round. Out of season, Porthleven has one of the best surf breaks in the country where you can sit down and get lost for hours watching the energetic surfers riding the waves. There are some fabulous hidden coves along this stretch of coastline, including Praa Sands, Poldu Cove, and Rinsey, a magical setting accessed down a steep cliff path. You may have even seen pictures of Porthleven on television, being one of the best spots in the UK for storm watching, with the crashing waves often being used as the backdrop to weather forecasts. Walkers will enjoy the South West Coast Path, adventuring west past Rinsey Head, or south across Loe Bar, and on to Church Cove. Take a trip to the Isles of Scilly by boat or plane, and marvel at the display of sub-tropical gardens at the stunning Tresco Abbey. Porthleven is the ideal base for discovering the delights of west Cornwall and the Lizard Peninsula.

It ism literally 5 minutes walk to the attractive harbour at Porthleven, and the town shops and cafes. The owners re-equip frequently, making sure that the property is kept up to date. We have stayed in this house for five consecutive years, and thoroughly recommend both it and Porthleven as a holidy venue.

9.30am exit time too early as you couldn't arrive until 4pm meant you lost best part of a day. Kitchen roll would most acceptable also spare toilet rolls.
