Guests say

The Old Dairy in Cornwall is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and prime location for coastal walks and local attractions. Guests appreciate the warm welcome, including homemade treats and thoughtful touches. While one review mentions maintenance issues, the majority celebrate the property's charm, tranquility, and wildlife encounters.

Guests consistently describe the property as spotless and very well maintained, with only one review citing a need for a deeper clean due to a stale smell. The overwhelming majority of positive comments suggest a high standard of cleanliness.

The location is celebrated for its proximity to coastal paths, beaches, and local eateries. It's described as peaceful and ideal for exploring the 'forgotten corner' of Cornwall. One review suggests better signage could enhance the experience.

The property is frequently described as comfortable, with a cosy feel and a bed that 'hugs you'. The quiet environment contributes to the comfort level, although one review mentions WiFi issues which could affect overall comfort for some guests.

Facilities are generally well-received, with mentions of a well-equipped kitchen and secure storage for bicycles. However, one review points out maintenance issues in communal areas and a lack of live TV, which suggests room for improvement.

Many reviews express gratitude for the thoughtful gestures, such as homemade scones, jam, cream, and sloe gin upon arrival. While these gifts are warmly received, it should be noted that such personal touches, though likely, are not guaranteed with every stay.

About this property

Resting in Maker on the Rame peninsula AONB, between Millbrook, Kingsand/Cawsand and the Mount Edgecumbe estate, is this wonderful attached cottage. Once a 17th century dairy, set in idyllic countryside in the grounds of Grade 2 listed Friary Manor. This quirky dwelling is a superb fit for a small group looking to escape to the Cornish coast.

Off-road parking for two cars greets you on arrival at the end of a long country-style drive before heading through your private secure gate to your own private flagstone courtyard and then into the Boot Room entrance hallway for your coats and shoes. Shopping bags, iron, ironing board are also stowed here plus a washing machine. Walk into your charming and bright yet cosy living/dining room and settle down on the plump seating while watching your favourite show on the Smart TV or enjoy eating together at the dining table that seats four. All cutlery, placemats supplied along with family games and books to while away a cosy evening in. The modern bright kitchen makes cooking a breeze with all the appliances you’d expect and then through the double French doors onto your private decked courtyard to enjoy breakfast in the morning sun. There is also a private seating area on the Manor lawn (for summer). At bedtime, make your way up a few steps and into either a calm single room, where you can read a book before bed in the convenient armchair or further down the corridor is a very spacious luxury king-size bedroom - showcasing exposed beams and a fabulous bay window where you might get to see our local deer heard pass in the early mornings and evenings.

If you're looking for exciting things to do there is a wide choice without the need to travel far with much accessible by foot or by car if preferred.

It’s a short walk to Maker Heights, with its very own cocktail bar, cafés and award winning restaurant, The Canteen - where you can admire the spectacular 360o views of the Rame peninsula. Continue on down to the nearby beautiful twin fishing villages of Kingsand and Cawsand offer beaches, pubs, cafes, delis, gift shops and eateries, and lots of winding lanes to explore. Also water sports, surfing and swimming in one of the many beaches and coves. Heading in the opposite direction from the Old Dairy, it’s a short walk along the footpath to Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park with its beautiful informal and formal gardens plus gift shops and cafes - maybe try a unique Segway experience!

Millbrook is also nearby containing mini markets, pharmacy, a health food deli and a newsagent/gift/hardware shop. Take a stroll around Mill Quay and Southdown Marina, bird watch at Millbrook Dam, before enjoying a pint at the traditional pub - the Devon & Cornwall.

Travel a bit further and tour the grounds of Antony House, or enjoy sea view dining at many local restaurants. Also the famous long Whitsand Bay is a short drive favoured by local surfers. Seaton, Looe, Polperro are a short drive too. The lively port city of Plymouth can be accessed by the car ferry from Torpoint or the closer (great fun) foot ferry from Cremyll (Mount Edgcumbe quay). The city is filled with family-friendly attractions such as The Box, National Aquarium, traditional pubs, restaurants, the Plymouth Gin Distillery and the Mayflower steps on the historic Barbican – where there is also a foot ferry back to Cawsand beach. There is also easy access from the property to the Tamar Valley AONB, the spectacular wilderness of Dartmoor and Tavistock or a day trip to the Eden Project, Fowey or Bodmin.

For a fabulous trip to Cornwall enjoy staying in a fantastic home-from-home at The Old Dairy and be welcomed by a traditional cream tea and a spot of homemade sloe gin.

Nestled in the Rame Peninsula aonb and perched on the Cornish coast is the delightful village of Millbrook. The village is centered around the Millbrook Dam, providing visitors with plenty of opportunities to walk around the waters and even try canoeing and kayaking in them!
