Otterton is a pretty village in one of Devon's most beautiful coastal valleys between the stylish Regency town of Sidmouth and the Victorian resort of Budleigh Salterton. On the approach to the village is Otterton Mill, a working water mill powered by the River Otter, around which has grown up a cafe serving delicious food, an exhibition gallery showing local arts and crafts and a venue where popular music nights take place. In Otterton is Robin Cottage, a Grade II listed thatched property full of character and utterly charming. Everything here has been carefully chosen, in the comfortable lounge there is a wood burning stove and the smart kitchen/diner which has a tiled floor and wooden table and chairs overlooks the garden. A wooden spiral staircase leads to two very pretty bedrooms, a double with views over the garden towards the hills beyond and a second smaller bedroom at the front of the cottage. The sheltered garden is enclosed and laid to lawn with a small patio area, table and chairs. The beach at Ladram Bay is only half a mile away, here pale grey shingle contrasts against the deep, rich, red cliffs and you can join the South Devon Coast Path.
In the countryside and valleys of East Devon, this village with its thatched cottages is a great spot. Three miles from the Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth, and one mile from the SW Coastal Path on the Jurassic Coast. Ladram Bay is one mile away. Inland, footpaths follow the River Otter where fox, badger and birdlife can be seen, down the road is Bicton Park and Botanical Garden. Visit the flour mill on the River Otter. Dartmoor is under an hour away while Exeter with its shopping centre, cinemas, clubs and restaurants is 10 miles away.

The shower was electric and not a very good one I'm 6'2'' tall and had to bend right over to wash my hair. Robyn cottage is in a lovely little village with a good pub and a community shop which is open most of the time also a mill shop and cafe serving excellent food. We enjoyed the walks along the river and coast and our dog was welcome everywhere. Overall a good experience.

The location in the middle of Otterton is perfect, with a local shop, pub and the mill all within walking distance. The garden was great to sit out in on the good days, and we made use of the fire on the chilly evenings. Lovely welcome to find wine in the fridge too! Only thing to be aware of - parking is on-street, which is to be expected for a small village like this, and the road can be quite busy. It's all explained in the listing and by the lovely owner, Lesley! There's a bus stop right next to the front door though, which is incredibly useful for trips over to Sidmouth or Budleigh / Exmouth - buses are hourly throughout the day. Would definitely recommend a stay in Robyn Cottage if you're visiting this lovely part of Devon!

A charming home full of character with a lovely enclosed cottage garden. It's a shame we had to come back home a week wasn't long enough in this little gem.
