Guests say

Robyn Cottage in Devon is highly praised for its cleanliness, peaceful yet convenient location, and cosy comfort. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, enclosed garden, and thoughtful touches such as welcome packs. The village of Otterton offers local amenities and scenic walks, enhancing the stay.

Guests consistently mention the cottage's exceptional cleanliness, describing it as spotless and tidy. One minor comment about dust between sofa cushions does not detract from the overall high standards maintained.

The location is celebrated for its tranquillity and proximity to local shops, pubs, and scenic walks. The village's charm and the ease of accessing nearby towns and nature paths contribute to its high rating.

Comfort is a highlight, with guests finding the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable. The warm and welcoming atmosphere is frequently noted, although one guest mentioned difficulty with the shower height.

Facilities are well-regarded, with the cottage being well-equipped for guests' needs. The quality of kitchenware and the inclusion of a log burner are positives, though there was a single mention of a suboptimal shower experience.

The thoughtfulness of the host is evident in the welcome packs provided, which are greatly appreciated by guests. While these gifts are warmly mentioned, it is noted that such extras, while delightful, are subject to change and not guaranteed.

About this property

Otterton is a pretty village in one of Devon's most beautiful coastal valleys between the stylish Regency town of Sidmouth and the Victorian resort of Budleigh Salterton. On the approach to the village is Otterton Mill, a working water mill powered by the River Otter, around which has grown up a cafe serving delicious food, an exhibition gallery showing local arts and crafts and a venue where popular music nights take place. In Otterton is Robin Cottage, a Grade II listed thatched property full of character and utterly charming. Everything here has been carefully chosen, in the comfortable lounge there is a wood burning stove and the smart kitchen/diner which has a tiled floor and wooden table and chairs overlooks the garden. A wooden spiral staircase leads to two very pretty bedrooms, a double with views over the garden towards the hills beyond and a second smaller bedroom at the front of the cottage. The sheltered garden is enclosed and laid to lawn with a small patio area, table and chairs. The beach at Ladram Bay is only half a mile away, here pale grey shingle contrasts against the deep, rich, red cliffs and you can join the South Devon Coast Path.

In the countryside and valleys of East Devon, this village with its thatched cottages is a great spot. Three miles from the Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth, and one mile from the SW Coastal Path on the Jurassic Coast. Ladram Bay is one mile away. Inland, footpaths follow the River Otter where fox, badger and birdlife can be seen, down the road is Bicton Park and Botanical Garden. Visit the flour mill on the River Otter. Dartmoor is under an hour away while Exeter with its shopping centre, cinemas, clubs and restaurants is 10 miles away.

It is warm, comfortable, well equipped and beautifully clean. We were always able to park right outside. The safe, enclosed garden was great for the dogs. Otterton is a fabulous village. The riverside walks are a complete joy. Both the pub and the mill have great service, fabulous food and a welcoming atmosphere. The only downside was the renovation work going on next door. It started at 8am every day. We would have preferred to have known about this and given the opportunity of rebooking. I had finished cancer treatment 2 days before our stay and needed lie ins. Once this has finished we would definitely give Robyn Cottage 5 stars.

It is in a beautiful area with good links to lots of places to visit, many of which were recommended by the hosts. The cottage was well appointed and comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Would visit again.

The shower was electric and not a very good one I'm 6'2'' tall and had to bend right over to wash my hair. Robyn cottage is in a lovely little village with a good pub and a community shop which is open most of the time also a mill shop and cafe serving excellent food. We enjoyed the walks along the river and coast and our dog was welcome everywhere. Overall a good experience.
