About this property

Secret Garden is a fabulous first-floor apartment, rests centrally in Dartmouth, a bustling Devonshire harborside town. Just a stone's throw away from local amenities and the embankment of the River Dart, whilst benefiting from a rear 'secret garden' and a welcoming interior, the apartment invites a family or group of four. Access the apartment by climbing the exterior steps before entering the well-equipped kitchen/diner; here you'll find all expected appliances to rustle up and enjoy tasty dishes as a family. Next door you will find the homely sitting room with plush seating, and a Smart TV, offering a relaxing setting if you don't fancy going out after an adventure-filled day. When sleep calls, select between the double and twin rooms, both offering ample storage to help you unpack and feel at home, serviced by a sleek shower room boasting a rainfall and handheld shower. Come morning, head outdoors and climb the steps up to the rear enclosed garden, where you can enjoy an alfresco breakfast and coffee, view of the steam train and the tops of the bobbing boats in the harbour, before adventuring to Dartmouth and its host of attractions. Start off by brushing up on your knowledge at Dartmouth Museum, before exploring the Royal Avenue Gardens and the stunning harbour. Dartmouth Castle is also nearby, elevated above the picturesque shoreline making up the South West Coast Path, recommended to explore and visit Compass Cove Beach and Blackpool Sands. Woodlands family theme park is a short drive away, guaranteed to provide hours of fun for all the family. Travelling towards Totnes, enjoy tours of the local castle or perhaps visit Totnes Museum and Archives, whilst Baltic Wharf is a bustling area perfect for people watching. Make Paignton your final stop, offering plenty of family-friendly attractions, including the Zoo Environmental Park, Paignton Pier and the sandy shore of Fairy Cove, worth adding to your itinerary. For those wanted a full day of adventure, Dartmoor National Park is well worth the drive (around 1 hour drive). Experience all of this by booking Secret Garden.

Dartmouth lies on the banks of the beautiful River Dart estuary in the popular and picturesque South Hams area of South Devon. Located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and close to the coast, Dartmouth is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Devon. It offers a stunning waterfront, ancient narrow streets lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries plus many local events such as the annual Dart Music Festival and the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta, along with the Dartmouth Food Festival held every October. There are many interesting cycling and walking routes around Dartmouth, including the South West Coast Path, the Dart Valley Trail and plenty of quiet country lanes. A trip on the Dartmouth Steam Railway through picturesque countryside to Paignton is a must, and so is a boat trip across to Kingswear and on to Brixham, a pretty little harbour town. For those seeking some beach activities, there is a wide choice in the South Hams area such as Blue Flag Award winner Blackpool Sands, and Slapton Sands, both extremely popular and just a stone's throw from Dartmouth. The smell of the shower drain in the bathroom was really quite overpowering, regardless of use and regardless of the window. We had to swap a few light bulbs around as the bedside light didn't have a bulb? In addition, there are only 2 sockets in the bedroom so it would have been great to have some sort of extension lead so we didn't have to charge devices in a different room if we wanted to use the bedside lights. Given the great stock of kitchen items and tea/coffee facilities, it would have also been a nice touch to include the basics like olive oil for cooking. Similarly, it is great that there is a dishwasher in the property but only one singular tablet was provided. Overall though the stay was pleasant and the location is second to none.

It was comfortable, with luxurious fittings and decorated to a high standard. It was located in the perfect spot - very close to all the facilities in Dartmouth but also so quiet. There were a couple of things missing that I would generally use - oven gloves and a small microwave. It was only noticeable because we decided to eat in a few times. A mirror in the bedroom close to a socket would be useful for hairdrying too. Otherwise everything has been thought of - even night lights or are they night torches?

The fridge did not keep the food properly chilled and several items went off. The bathroom lock was very stiff and if you didn't manage to lock it, the door would sometimes swing open. The door of the bedroom with the double bed didn't close properly. Also the chairs in the garden were covered in cobwebs and had to be cleaned before we could use them.
