Guests say

Salty House Shaldon is consistently praised for its stunning views, spacious and well-decorated interiors, and comfortable furnishings. It's an ideal family holiday home with a well-equipped kitchen and delightful garden, located within walking distance to the town and beaches. However, some guests noted the steep staircases could be challenging for the elderly or less mobile.

There is no specific mention of cleanliness in the reviews, so it is not possible to provide a score for this category.

The property boasts beautiful views over the estuary, with a convenient location close to Shaldon and easy access to nearby attractions. The only minor drawback mentioned is the steep walk into town.

Guests find the house to be very comfortable, with great sized bedrooms, comfortable beds, and a homely feel. The steep staircases are a noted concern for some, which slightly impacts the comfort score.

The property is well-equipped, particularly the kitchen, and provides all the necessary amenities for a relaxing holiday. However, there is a mention of parking difficulties and steep stairs, which suggests some room for improvement in accessibility.

While the reviews highlight the property's thoughtful touches, there is no mention of gifts, so it is not possible to provide a score for this category. It should be noted that any gifts, if provided, are a bonus and not guaranteed.

About this property

A stylish home with fantastic river views

This early 18th-century Grade II-listed villa in the delightful village of Shaldon is just 0.5 miles from one of the village’s main streets – stop off for a coffee and a bite at the bakery when head down to try a spot of crabbing. Upon your return, stoke the open fire and enjoy the views out of the bay window.

The accommodation is beautiful. The living room has French doors that open out onto the garden with river views. Furnished with pretty blue and cream sofas and armchairs offering plenty of relaxing space for eight people, the living is perfect for leisurely chats or watching TV. A striking focal point of this stylish room is the open fireplace with a large mantel mirror over it. The contemporary kitchen has all the usual appliances plus a dining table and chairs for eight. Just across the hall from the kitchen is the downstairs cloakroom with a washing machine. Upstairs, the four bedrooms are beautifully furnished with coordinating bedding in a neutral palette. Outside the property has a lovely lawned garden with views over the river and across to Teignmouth. Planted with pretty shrubs and flowers, a patio area with a table with chairs is perfect for a little alfresco dining in the Devon sunshine.

Shaldon is very well connected, with road links, proximity to Exeter Airport and easy access to the mainline train stations in Teignmouth and Newton Abbot. Guests are within 7.5 miles of the lively attractions of Torquay and the surrounding area has many popular National Trust properties, beaches and coastal tourist attractions. Nearby Dartmoor (accessed within 11 miles) also offers a dynamic day out for walking, mountain biking, wild swimming and extreme sports. It’s possible to arrive at Shaldon by public transport via Teignmouth with trains operating from Exeter, Plymouth and London and the ferry service from Teignmouth to Shaldon Beach.

Lovely cottage overlooking the teign estuary. Parking for 2 cars at property not feasible although parking in nearby road is available. Cottage has steep 13 steps to first floor. Facilities good. Would I go again. Yes. Bit expensive in school holidays

This is a fabulous holiday cottage, as a party of 4 adults and 4 children 5 and under it had everything we needed. It’s in a fantastic location for walking to the beach and ferry or a short trip in the car for farm parks and indoor options if the weather isn’t great. I’m sure we’ll be back!
