Malvern, Worcestershire, is a picturesque town on the eastern side of the dramatic Malvern Hills that has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. The hills, spanning nine miles, are made up of ancient rock and are home to a network of 100 miles of trails and bridleways, as well as several natural springs and panoramic vistas in every direction. Along with the Great Malvern Food Festival in June, the town hosts numerous auctions, flea markets, farmers' markets, and WI country markets throughout the year. West End and RSC productions are always welcome at the Malvern Theatre. There are National Trust properties and gardens to explore, as well as opportunities for fishing and river cruises. In addition, the Sunshine Music Festival, the Jazz Festival, the Folk Festival, and the Blues Festival are all held there annually. The town's mediaeval church, which is now a Heritage Centre, is topped by a striking 18th-century cupola, known as The Pepperpot, and the town has its own marina, vineyard, and well-stocked farm shop at the local fruit farm. Worcester, with its cathedral, and Gloucester, with its waterfront, are both within driving distance, and neither is more than 30 miles from the picturesque Forest of Dean, which is home to a number of interesting sights.
