Blue Skies Cottage is a well-received holiday rental with guests praising its comfortable furnishings, efficient heating, and thoughtful touches such as a welcome pack. The property's location is appreciated for its quietness, proximity to the beach, and scenic walks. While some guests have noted areas for improvement, the overall sentiment is that the cottage provides a cosy and enjoyable stay.
The cottage generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with guests feeling comfortable during their stay. However, there are isolated comments about the need for a more thorough clean in certain areas, such as the kitchen and garden, which slightly affects the overall perception.
The location of the cottage is highly regarded, with guests enjoying the peaceful village setting, nearby beach walks, and the convenience for exploring the surrounding area. The scenic views and quiet environment contribute to a positive experience.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, with extra blankets and a good heating system. However, some guests mention that the seating could be more comfortable and the shower space is cramped for some, which suggests room for improvement in this category.
The cottage is well-equipped with amenities like WiFi, a large TV, and a kitchen with a welcome tray. Nonetheless, guests have pointed out issues with the WiFi signal, TV reception, and some maintenance concerns such as the boiler and bathroom size, indicating that the facilities could be enhanced.
The thoughtfulness of the hosts is evident from the welcome packs and extra items provided, which guests frequently appreciate. It should be noted that such gestures, while common, are not guaranteed and may vary with each stay.
Abroath 4.1 miles. This welcoming, semi-detached bungalow rests in the fishing village of Auchmithie, close to the amenities of Abroath, on the picturesque Angus coast. Blue Skies Cottage can accommodate for up to five guests and is a charming holiday base for exploring this scenic part of Scotland. Step through the front door into the entrance hallway and pop off your walking boots and jackets before finding the sitting room. Here you can lounge on the sofa whilst the woodburning stove heats up those cold feet, while the chef of the group can take to the kitchen to prepare a well-deserved feast. There are two bedrooms at this Auchmithie cottage, including a king-size double and a family room with double and single bed. Completing the interior is the shower room with walk-in shower, basin and WC. The village stands above 120ft cliffs, which provides an elevated viewpoint over the North Sea, while below there is a pebble beach, an old and partly derelict harbour and some fascinating rock architecture. There is superb walking and cycling along the coastal routes with superb views accompanying you, as well as the wide range of wildlife. Take a 20 minute car drive to the stunning sandy beach at Lunan, a favourite with surfers and horse riders, there is a medieval castle and a cave to explore here. Head into Arbroath and stroll along the sandy beaches as the taste of salty sea fills the aroma before dining at one of the first-class restaurants, including the The Old Boatyard restaurant which serves a delicious fresh seafood menu. History buffs will love exploring the imposing Guthrie Castle, set in landscaped grounds and dating back to the 15th century, it provides a great opportunity to learn about the local heritage. Further afield lies the bustling coastal city of Dundee, which benefits from access to a large number of art galleries and museums detailing Scotland's heritage. Blue Skies Cottage is a lovely choice for a family or couple seeking a retreat to Scotland’s east coast.
Arbroath lies 15 northeast of Dundee on Scotland’s Angus coastline. The town is famous for its long sandy beaches and stunning sandstone cliffs that stretch out to either side of the town. Within the town there is also a number of shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés, as well as some fascinating buildings such as the Arbroath Abbey and Arbroath Smokie, both well worth a visit. Coastal walks and cycling can be enjoyed from the town and there are a few golf courses nearby.

Very cosy welcoming little cottage had everything we needed for our stay, thank you for a generous welcome pack which was very much enjoyed. Our dog Buddy loved the cottage too, nice costal walks and a very handy playing field to run about in. The location is great for walks and for touring the surrounding area. This is not a complaint but just so that it does not detract from the property, the areas of dampness in the king bedroom, the bed side lights in the same room and the flickering dimmer light in the family bedroom all need addressed as previously mentioned. This did not impact our holiday in any way as we had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend Blue Skies. Thank Graham and Wendy for a very comfortable stay.

This review was written before we had to leave. Blue Skies Cottage Pros Views Quiet Recliners Washing machine Dining/living room, spacious and comfortable Thermostat - godsend on cold mornings Welcome basket Cons Kitchen Under equipped Not enough small sharp knives and utensils, whisk, potato masher, more cooking spoons etc Not enough baking trays, that said, I can bake a cake but not a casserole Saucepans much too small, shallow and too lightweight for projected sleeps 5 Bin too small for self catering kitchen Don't look down the side or too closely at the cooker, its not pleasant. Bathroom Shower very very narrow for bigger bums and for those with mobility issues, no safe way of exiting the shower, hurt my legs so much I ended up having strip washes instead. Family Bedroom Needs blinds or nets otherwise with a teenager the curtains stay closed 24/7 Needs a wardrobe rather than a sofa and coffee tables, as there is not a large amount of storage space and no hanging space Master bedroom Walk in to 3 wardrobes but two are full of high chairs, cots, etc so nowhere really to store cases etc Hanging space in largest wardrobe but anything longer than tops i.e. dresses end up in a heap at the bottom due to boxes stored in it. Drawers are small The bedside lamps are dangerous, the switches are behind the head of the bed and if you pull one out to get to the switch, it pulls the other one over. People have tried which is why one is broken, they appear to be plugged into an extension cable but the leads to the lamps are much too short. Overall The electrics are a real cause for concern. The badly plugged lamps in the bedroom, the light bulb resting on the hallway shade, the flickering non dimmer dimmer connections in the family bedroom and kitchen Master bedroom is visibly damp, pointed out by another guest in June. The step from living room to kitchen not mentioned anywhere, description says all ground floor, technically it IS but someone with reduced mobility has to take it into account when booking, it makes a huge difference particularly as the bathroom is at the rear of the property, its a high step and for wobbly legs is hard work, a handle would help. Also pointed out by previous guests. Lack of waste bins! Sounds petty but bags hanging on handles isn't a good look. There are only 2 bins, bathroom and kitchen, both are small. Teacakes a nice touch by the kettle, but someone ate one prior to our arrival and left the wrapper behind a cushion in the main bedroom! The garden steps are lethal. They are deep, narrow and have no secure way of keeping your balance, one set goes to the greenhouse, the middle set are narrow and the third set starts in the middle of a flowerbed! Anyone one not totally steady on their legs (of any age) are risking injury. The owners of this property need to do some much needed bits and bobs for this to be worth the £1100 off season amount we paid. The propery is suited far better to a double and twin bedroom rather than squeeze 5 people in, not including cots! They are very clued up on fire safety but it seems at the cost of making sure its a true home from home. We have been hiring cottages for 25yrs and this is the first we have had such issues with.

Highly delighted with everything. Even the dog enjoyed being able to wander in and out.
