Pembridge Cottage in Monmouth, Herefordshire, is a charming property that has received praise for its idyllic location, cosy atmosphere, and welcoming host. Guests have enjoyed the beautiful garden, the opportunity for countryside walks, and the cottage's suitability for dogs. While some guests have highlighted areas for improvement, the overall sentiment is that the cottage offers a peaceful and enjoyable stay.
Cleanliness has received mixed reviews. While some guests found the cottage clean and tidy, others reported issues with cobwebs, spiders, and a general need for a deeper clean. The feedback suggests that cleanliness is generally satisfactory, but there is room for improvement.
The location of the cottage is highly praised for its tranquillity and proximity to local attractions and walks. Guests appreciate the peaceful surroundings and the easy access to the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, and Welsh border towns.
Comfort has been positively noted, with guests finding the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy. However, some guests mentioned issues with sofa comfort and the heat in the upstairs bedroom, suggesting that while the cottage is generally comfortable, there are aspects that could be enhanced.
Facilities have garnered mixed feedback. Guests have enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen and ensuite bathrooms, but have also reported issues with WiFi, TV reception, and a lack of drying facilities. Maintenance concerns, such as non-working lights and shower attachments, have also been raised.
There is insufficient information to score thoughtfulness as there are no specific mentions of gifts or special touches provided by the host that would indicate a level of thoughtfulness. Therefore, this score is set to null.
A delightful, 17th century, stone-built detached barn conversion, standing in the pretty grounds of the owner's country house and gardens in the hamlet of Welsh Newton, near the beautiful Wye Valley. Lovingly renovated to provide high quality accommodation including two en-suite bathrooms, the ground floor of this Welsh Newton cottage is decorated and furnished in a contemporary style while the main loft bedroom has a sloping ceiling and exposed oak beams, creating a romantic atmosphere. Excellent walking can be enjoyed nearby along Offa's Dyke, and the Wye and Monnow Valleys, while good fishing is available at the Rivers Monnow and Wye and local lakes. Cycling is also available nearby and in the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons), just half an hour away. With the lovely towns of Monmouth, Symonds Yat and Ross-on-Wye all within easy reach, this is a superb Welsh Newton cottage for couples and families alike.
Welsh Newton is close to the English and Welsh borders and to the town of Monmouth. If walking is your hobby then Welsh Newton is a good choice for you because there are lots of exciting walking routes to take including the famous Offa's Dyke. You could also opt for guided trips through the lush land of the Monnow Valleys. The town of Monmouth is 4 miles away and has a great deal to offer. Expect to see refined Georgian houses and decorative courtyards built in Victorian times dotted around the town. Of course, there's many quality shops to visit in Monmouth too and a good smattering of pubs and restaurants to try out through your holiday.

The owners were very helpful and there weere several items of food tea/coffee etc left, which helped from day one. I throughly recommend Pembrooke Cottage.

We queried whether it had actually been cleaned prior to our visit as there was cobwebs and spiders everywhere. Yes you expect the odd spider or cobweb when youâre in the country but not clinging to the walls and walking through one when you enter the downstairs wet room. There was no light in the oven so you had to keep opening the door to check the food which immediately set off both smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Of the 4 spotlights in the kitchen area only 2 were working. Iâm sure Alissa is a lovely lady and seemed very pleasant when we occasionally saw her but in general we were very upset as this could be a delightful cottage with a little more care and attention. In conclusion we are amazed that Sykes donât have any way of checking that their holiday lets are not up to recognised standard.
