What our customers say about their holidays

Following 2 weeks of storms, the track is now only 4 wheel drive friendly.
The hot water tap in the kitchen cannot be regulated and goes to full power unexpectedly. The bathroom tap was loose and leaking. A plumber was called and the problem solved efficiently by Sykes. 1 guest slipped and fell on mossy pathway at rear of house, probably not a normal issue but gutters did not cope with the rainfall. We had read reviews of a small kitchen so were prepared, however, it was the lack of storage space for food that was a problem. Only 1 small cupboard in the kitchen was available for storage, all the others were filled with an unnecessary abundance of crockery. There was a lack of storage space in 2 of the smaller bedrooms. The ground floor bedroom only had a small understairs wardrobe, a bedside cabinet with 2 small drawers and a small dresser with 2 small drawers, difficult for 2 adults. A lot of our clothes had to be stored on the window ledges. The small upstairs bedroom only had a chest of drawers which we couldn't access because we had to put up a travel cot in that room. All toddlers clothes were laid out on the spare bed which wasn't too much of a problem, but might not be quite as acceptable for older people using that room. We loved the space both inside and out. The location was quiet and close to walks. Contacted Sykes re the possibility of an external washing line rather than using the tumble dryer, with 8 people this would not have been environmentally friendly. We were pleasantly surprised to find, on our arrival, that a line had been installed, plus pegs. We were staying for 2 weeks and were pleasantly surprised that after the first week, someone came in to change bedding and towels. The only thing that would prevent us from using this holiday venue again was the narrow lane that leads to the track because there are few passing places and there were often bottle necks where we had to spend a lot of time either reversing or waiting for other people to reverse. Whilst this was frustrating, it wasn't as frustrating as coping with people who didn't seem to appreciate that you have to slow down on small country lanes when you cannot see around a bend.

The owners were a delight very helpful and extremely friendly and leaving at the end of the holiday was like leaving very good friends.
A country path almost on the doorstep was a delight to take the dogs on their very first walk of the day and their last one of the day. The location took a little time to get use to and found it was very central for all our needs. Now for the cottage a Lovely tranquil dwelling relaxing and peaceful . Everything you could wish for . Two loos were favourable and the shower was just awesome .Beds most comfortable and quite and the living room with a easy TV to work straight on to the channel was what we needed for the Wimbledon and world cup finals with a sporty hubby' no codes to fiddle with like other cottages we have been too I just enjoyed sunbathing on the patio watching the world go bye .It reminded me of holidays in 50's and 60's Forgot the kitchen this was well equipped with all mod cons . Just as the brochure says. We have at last found the perfect cottage to spend a quite week away Booking with Sykes in the past has not always what we had imagined but Sheepwash Barn was all and more Thank you Steve and Julie for very thing you have done to make this little cottage cosy even the bottle of wine and the cookies was a lovely touch thank you . Oh forgot to mention for any bird watchers the odd bird feeds at the window sill bird feeder which was most entertaining . The love birds Pigeons cuddle together at dusk on their perch at the end of the day If you're tempted go for it book it you will not be disappointed Yarmouth White Link ferry is the closes if you are searching for the nearest ferry to the cottage. If you go enjoy you will love it .

The barn was fantastic!
We all loved it, the garden was large and secure, the games room entertained the teens for hours, the house was lovely, the beds were comfortable and everything was well presented. Kitchen was well equipped. I loved that the house had 2 separate upstairs bits. The bath took a while to run, but you could just set it running a bit earlier to solve that problem. The bad reviews I felt were really clutching at straws. I dont know what some people expect when they go away, especially to a dog friendly family sized house. The only small issues were the showers: the downstairs one got water everywhere somehow, and the upstairs one didnt work. If we were to return to IOW I would definitely use this place as a base; it's a fantastic location down a dirt track and away from other people, so you can have music on and play outside later without worrying about annoying people. It's easy to get anywhere on the island aswell, nowhere seemed to take longer than 45 minutes to get to.

1. The dishwasher cutlery tray was missing, so we had to wash up our cutlery after every meal.
2. Cushions were covered in dog hairs. We were not pleased to find dog hairs in our clothes. 3. We got a lot of interference on the TV. There were no instructions to help us make adjustments. 4. The home information pack told us that bags with drawstrings would be left in the kitchen for us to put bedding etc in at the end of our stay, but no such bags were to be found. 5. The hot tap on the basin in the downstairs bathroom is broken, probably because it was installed wrongly in the first place, turning on clockwise and off anti-clockwise. 6. The bathroom floor floods whenever someone has a shower, so we have to be on our hands and knees mopping up afterwards. (We do know to keep the shower cutain inside the bath at all times.) I'm not going to ask for a full refund but I do think that these complaints should be recognised financially, perhaps half the cost.

Great place and great location which will be even better when the recently-designated nature reserve is established.
Really comfy bed. Well-equipped. Some things need attention. Access was one star: difficult to open the key store in the gloaming in early February and no heating, so the house like an ice box. Heating timing apparently not working. Insulation clearly not good: temperature dropped immediately when heating was off. Cleaning poor: mouse droppings in two rooms and dog hair around the sitting room. Dishwasher on the blink (no rinse!?) and no rinse in the cupboard. No instructions to sort out dishwasher or how to figure out the tv system (Now is useless if you canât find a way to log in). It would have been helpful to have been provided with more / up-to-date information about the island, especially walking. Very easy wi-if access. Fantastic for a family or two families in summer. A bit more problematic in winter. Nonetheless, a fun stay.
