What our customers say about their holidays

From the street the cottage looks small. Do not be deceived! Once inside and beyond the lobby you are in a very large and well appointed lounge area. Comfy sofas and some rugs on the enormous stone flags. Huge log burner in the fireplace (not used but, looks like it would be great in the colder months). Large TV above sideboard so, if is raining or you just want to chill or watch TV, you're sorted. Dining room and kitchen are big enough and have all of the facilities you need. Storage is a bit "tight" but, just rearrange a bit and you should be ok (we did, we were). Bathroom has a great shower and everything else you need. Main bedroom to the front is large and houses a superking bed. I think there is a second bedroom but, we didn't have access to it. From the outside this looks to be quite large. The garden is a peaceful haven but, was being changed/updated when we were there. Sure the stairs are steep but, its just how it was when the property was built. Parking can be a pain but we managed to park in the street every day. The walk to the car park in the square is 5 minutes so, not the end of the world. Enjoy your stay, we recommend it!

A very good location for this quirky cottage, right in the centre of the small town and easy to get to all the local attractions. Parking is on the street and while occasionally we couldn't park right outside, generally we had no problems with this. The cottage was well-equipped, the kitchen had everything needed for a week's stay and the shower was very good. A large and comfy bed as well. The stairs are very narrow and difficult to negotiate for anyone with mobility issues. However it is in need of some TLC throughout, as while the place was clean, it looks tired and would benefit from some fresh paint and updating on some of the fixtures like blinds. The garden is particularly bad and looked like it had not been touched all summer. It was so overgrown with weeds that it made it unusable during our stay which was disappointing as we booked this based on the photos so our dog could go outside into the enclosed garden. The front outside area was also full of weeds and with all the bins there does not give a good first impression.

Directions to the property were accurate and obtaining the keys no problem, although weâd definitely recommend not attempting a right turn into the drive as visibility is poor and we nearly got cleaned up by an oncoming car.
You can turn at the pub just down the road. Parking is right outside the front door. The Barn is exactly as shown in the photos. The main living area and kitchen diner are both spacious and comfortable if a little lacking in character. The kitchen is well provisioned with pots, pans and utensils so cooking and even baking is possible. The main bed is comfortable and bedding decent quality, the room having interesting views over the farmyard. The large bathroom has plenty of space if a little drafty in cold weather. The barn is in a great position for exploring the Dorset villages and coast. Only downside is you need to be prepared to bring your own consumables (toilet rolls, dishwasher pods, washing powder, bin bags) as only enough is supplied to get you started although Crewkerne is close by with shops for supplies. The owner is nearby if you need anything and is extremely helpful. Recommended.

The Old Bakery is a beautiful looking cottage and very comfortable to stay in.
It was equipped with everything you could think off and more. All the little extras were a lovely surprise. Mary, Richard and off course poppy were fantastic host and nothing was too much trouble. I would say the best feature is the garden, my son loved it. There were places to hide, places to run and play, places to climb and best of all the river. Richard took the time to show us what was in it. There was always something new to see in the garden each day. A fantastic place for little explorers. The cottage is a little way from the beach and other attractions but it didnât matter to us too much, as it was nice to see new places and the scenery. The shops are a 6 minute drive and about the same for a pub meal. We had a lovely time staying here and would recommend it. Thank you for a great holiday.

Unfortunately the cottage did not meet the standards we usually find with a Sykesâs cottage.
On entering we were met with a musty smell which caused us to go and purchase a Febreeze plug in. The bin in the kitchen had not been emptied. The amount of cobwebs and spiderwebs were unacceptable even for an old quirky cottage. The carpet felt spongy and moist underfoot. The view from the cottage was of a cardboard box and empty bottles full of water??? The path to the garden was obstructed by trip hazards, electrical cables being used to charge garden equipment that was being housed with no covering. Ladders left with ropes against trees and a plugged in chainsaw in the grass. We have an adventurous 10 year old who is disciplined and is very aware of danger but not sure every child would not have found these tools as toys! Unfortunately would not recommend at this time.
