Near by there is also the remains of Llansteffan Castle, with stunning view. The National Botanic Garden of Wales is a short drive away and certainly worth a day trip. What our customers say about their holidays

  • Simon - Verified booking

This cottage was right up our street, and was hoping it was as described in the listing, which it was.

The cottage was immaculately clean on arrival and even more spacious than viewed from the pictures online. There was only the three of us including dog, but we like our space. The rural location on a farm with horses and dogs was great. Our dog is really hit and miss with other dogs but once she was settled in, she loved the two farm dogs. The younger dog would love to play with our dog when I walked her up the road or down in the extended grounds. Jackie the owner was very friendly and could not have been more helpful. On the day after we arrived she even invited us over to join her and others for a very belated Christmas get together which she had had to postpone from last December, now September, pulled pork baps with salad followed by profiteroles!. We spent some time just chilling and relaxing at the property. The view over the extended grounds with its peaceful and tranquil location were just the job. With the door open to the conservatory it was just nice to sit and listen to the River Corran babbling away as it runs through the grounds. There was a distant thunder storm on the first night but with all the lights off and full view of the sky from the conservatory, we had a show of lightning for most of the evening. We are members of National Trust (NT), so most of our visits were to NT properties or places including Stackpole Quay (and circular walk to the spectacular Barrafundle Beach), Paxton's Tower, Newton House, Dinefwr Grounds and Castle, Calby Woodland Garden, Lawrenny Quay/Claddeau Woods. and Dyffryn Gardens (on our journey home). Other places we visited were the Dylan Thomas history trail in and round Laugharne itself and the Castle with spectacular vies accross the River Taf/estuary. Also for those interested in all types of vehicles and speed, the Museum of Land Speed at Pendine is worth a visit. We had some good food at Poon's in Laugharne (Thai/British street food and breakfasts). Also Indian takeaways both good from Elaichi's and Bombay Spice in St. Clears. Another good place for breakfast (on way to Pendine) is the Stone Range Cafe. Lovely food too at Lawrenny Quay Cafe. All in all a great stay and would definitely consider a returning. Have booked before with Sykes and think we have been very spoilt with the accomodation we have previously stayed in.

Ffynnonlwyd Cottage itself was adequate, however, I do feel the bathroom was in need of some TLC. Realised on reflection that no photo was available of the shower and when we stayed here, we understand why. The shower itself was actually very good and powerful but the enclosure was very small and a little run down. I am of a large build and did struggle getting in and out, even my partner with a smaller frame still found this a little restricting in space. There is so much room in the bathroom to make something so much better than what is available. The bedding was very simple and did have a couple of stains on as did a couple of the towels. A few cobwebs which always makes me on edge when staying at an property however the kitchen was spotless. The hottub was the main reason for booking as we always like to relax in one after a good days walking. We couldnt fault this. Hot and well maintained , just a shame we couldnt use it after our very long journey on arrival. Someone already mentioned the steps to the garden and I agree they are extremely slippery as was the decking, some parts covered in algae. Although after coming back on our second day,we noticed the steps had been washed and the decking had been attempted to be cleaned also. The finer detail and little touches which could have made such a difference was lacking.A small welcome basket with tea coffee and sugar was provided but just my personal opinion,Condiments would have been a little touch that could have been available at the cottage. There is no salt or pepper. There was a small bin in the bathroom but no liner or any type of small bags that ladies need to have available . The plumbing and toilet is on a macerator so you could not flush certain things so these sanitary bags would have been extremely helpful and handy. We sadly never got to light the log fire as there was nothing there to light the fire and we wasnt met by the owner until he said hello on our last day as we were leaving. I guess we could have knocked at the house to ask for some fire lighters. All that being said, we had a lovely break away and enjoyed our stay in Wales. The cottage is ideally situated to visit some beautiful places.

We have just return from a week at The cottage and it was amazing.

Exactly as described. A lovely little cottage on a working farm. Our first impressions when entering the farm was how clean and well maintained it was. Haydn and Sian were so welcoming and showed us around their gorgeous gardens. The children were thrilled to be welcomed by little old Jim the dog every day and we even got to see baby cows in the small field behind the cottage. The accommodation was perfect. Clean, spacious with everything we needed and the added bonus of a washing machine to freshen up our beach towels and the children’s clothes. The hot tub was amazing and never lost its heat. You can tell it is well maintained. The patio area is full of plants and the view out of the kitchen window of Hayden and Sian’s flowers is beautiful. Even on the first day when it was a bit rainy it did not dampen our spirits as the cottage is so lovely. Haydn bought us logs for the log burner so we could have a cosy evening by the log burner after a dip in the undercover hot tub and take in the idealic peace of being in the countryside. We loved that (like the surrounding area) the garden was on multiple levels (which were easily accessible by our children and mother in law) as it allowed us to take in the great surrounding views. The local town St Clears has great shops to get fresh food including butchers and a bakers and several pubs, restaurants and takeaways. The cottage is in an easy drive of many local attractions for both kids and adults. During our time we visited beaches at Saundersfoot, Amroth, Pendine and Tenby. We took a boat ride from Tenby to an amazing island. When the weather was not as sunny we visited Camarthen indoor market and walked around several fantastic castles. We also had a great day at the National Botanic Gardens of Wales. On our final day we took the children to Heatherton World of Adventures. All these places we would highly recommend. We definitely hope to be back as the accommodation was perfect and we still have lots more places to explore. Thank-you Haydn and Sian …… Ps this kids are missing Jim the dog already

This is the first time we, as a family, have ever booked a cottage type break away - it won't be the last.

This is a delightful cottage and far exceeded the expectations from the already wonderful pictures you see here. It is spacious with 2 sitting rooms. The main sitting room has a log burner with everything provided to get it going. I've no idea how to use one, but I gave it a go and had a nice fire going. Has a TV with all the usual channels and iplayer etc. The other sitting room is equally as nice but you may need your own firestick there if you want to watch the television. But we didn't do much telly watching - so only briefly looked. Kitchen diner is massive! All you need to cook is here. Very good quality throughout. Ensuite main bedroom. Make sure you pull the blind down (You'll see!). Bed is extremely comfy. The children reported the same from there room too! Now, the cottage is on a main road, so there is a bit of traffic noise - but to be honest its not really an issue. The boiler clicks a bit in the main bedroom when the heating comes on but again you're being uber picky if this is an issue. The outside is just lovely. You can spend hours in the hot tub, listening to tunes if you want, or the blissful sound of absolute calm. It is really secluded too so no one can see round the back. There is a lovely little welcome back - and a folder with all you need to know about the cottage and the area. A brilliant touch. As it says, everything is a bit of a drive away, but an ideal base for exploring Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. Our only regret is not being able to stay a bit longer. Out two asked when we were going back. I said I didn't know - but we will be going back to this beautifully presented cottage.

We had a very disappointing stay at Corran Cottage, I'm sorry to say.

We really wanted to love this property as we were looking forward to a peaceful and relaxing holiday with our dog. The cottage was advertised as being in a "tranquil setting" with "quiet surroundings", however it was far from this. The cottage is semi-detached; there is a bed and breakfast adjoining the building and guests come and go. This would not ordinarily be a problem but for the owners 2 dogs barking at all arrivals. Also on site is the owners stables and this also resulted in many arrivals and departures, again causing car door slamming and dogs barking. The owner lives opposite the cottage and the lovely garden you see in the pictures of the trees and stream is beautiful, but is also shared with the owner and the B and B guests. There is, therefore, very little privacy in the so called "private" garden for residents of the cottage, as it is overlooked by the extended garden and all who visit it. To make matters worse the owners dogs took exception to anyone using the extended garden, and our dog was jumped on and growled at each time we left the cottage. We also witnessed the same thing happening to residents of the B and B who tried to walk their dog in the extended grounds, so it certainly was not a one-off situation. Each time we left the cottage we had to carry our dog to the car to prevent it being jumped on by the owners dogs. A far from relaxing stay at Corran Cottage and we decided to leave 4 days early, as 3 nights there was far too stressful for us and our dog.
