What our customers say about their holidays
Matt - Verified booking
We have stayed at the neighbouring Lodges many times, an excellent experience.
For this lodge, the photos represented outdoor seating in excellent order, along with cushions and an umbrella. None of the above applied, while our son cut his hand on the rough timber seating. On reporting this ( the outdoor seating provision)to the cleaner, the owners weren't prepared to discuss the issues, while Sykes completely disregarded our complaint and the misrepresentation as to the seating. Having paid £1800 for the 3 days( 4 days in terms of advertised stay, but a late check in of 5pm ) we had previously encountered an earlier check in as to the neighboring Lodges and comfy outdoor seating,( sofas, egg chairs) in excellent condition. Having elderly parents with us, unable to use the sporting facilities, their sitting on the elevated decking was essential to the stay and restricted due to the aforementioned basic furniture and rough condition. We have stayed at many Lodges, with 3pm check ins, welcome packs( as opposed to 3 tablets of soap across the bathrooms and no provision as to shampoos etc- minor niggles admittedly) with the lodge owners eager to deal with any issues that apply. This owner refused to discuss our issues on the 2nd day of the stay, as did Sykes. With the cut to my sons hand , the health ans safety issue, as reported, resulted in no apology or offer as to compensation. Paying £1800 for the 3 days , you would expect a reasonable check in time and provision and certainly outdoor furniture in good condition and with cushions, as per the photo representation. The lodge is far more basic compared to the others.

Upon arriving at pinewood retreat we was greeted with and immaculate complex , amazing new built lodges with balconies and great facilities such as the indoor pool.
That unfortunately was where the perfect start ended . We drove round looking for our plot of perfection repeatedly passing a dilapidated old wooden loads in the corner of the park assuming it was a potting shed for the gardener or of sort . Nope it was pinewood ten. We was greeted with a seen from Im a celeb get me out of here style bush tucker trial . A mass of cob webs all over the front of the shed . Most very dusty and old so no magicaly appeared over night . Some where trapped in between the glass panes so all you could see was a Halloween hue of the immaculate site. We opened the door to 70âs themed Interior and small that can only be described as one of a nursing home for the elderly . The sofa had no cushion material left so you could feel the Lats in your backside . The lights didnât work in the kids room to add to the Im a celeb theme. And it was just dingy and awful. Not a problem the weather was great weâll eat outside â¦.. errrm no the out side table only had a 3 chairs for a 4 birth âproperty â I can stress how much we would return to the site but sadly Pinewood 10 is only fit for the log pile . We was given a discount when booking this due to potential building work being carried out. The builders hare made any disturbance and again was immaculately tidy . I hate to think what the retail price was supposed to be. In short the British government wouldnât house refugees in this â property â let alone charge for the privilege

The Lodge is located right in front of one of the fishing ponds which give a stunning view of the blue waters when sat on the porch.
There was amble parking for more than one car with an area around the lodge for pets to run when letting out before locking up for the night. Although pets remain on lead in most areas there was a field area at the back to let pets roam wider within a short walk. As for the Lodge itself it was spacious with all the basics needed to self-cater. Microwave, oven, kettle, washing machine/dryer and fridge/freezer all included with the utensils (plates, knifes/fork/spoons, glasses/cups etc). For myself it was great that there was no WIFI and limited phone/data signal as the intention was to get away from the technical day to day noise. A gas fire worked well and provided the night-time relaxing lighting with a TV giving Freeview digital channels. The Lodge was warm, clean, and well-presented throughout and would happily go back in the future. The Lodge was within driving distance of several local viewpoints which allowed travel around the whole area. The owners were very friendly and were on hand if there were any issues (not that we had any). It was a real pleasure for the week and just what we needed to get away and have already recommended to friends and will be looking to go back in the future.

As the lodge were new all the fixtures and fittings were perfect.
The views are stunning and it was a very peaceful setting as we were the only ones there. We felt that there should have been more china as was only 6 of everything. Although only sleeps 6 more is needed. Easier instructions for the TV and heating would have been appreciated. The main issue we had was finding the lodge once we had collected the keys. Instructions given to us at reception were not clear so we ended up driving around the golf course on the Buggy track! Not ideal at all. Eventually we were shown where to go by following someone on a golf buggy. The road down to the lodge has not been finished and there were no signs, so it was impossible to find without being shown as needed to go through a yard full of building materials. I am sure once all the building of the lodges and road down has been finished signage will be sorted out, but at the moment anyone booking the lodge needs to be aware it is impossible to find without someone showing you the way. Overall we had a lovely break in a very well presented lodge. Very suitable for my 88 year old mother as all on one level with great non slip decking.

No 10 was lovely!
Itâs tucked away on the end in the corner so pretty much total privacy. Tbh, Iâm a bit of a clean freak and had bought my own cleaning things with me to give the place a once over but as soon as I walked in I could smell the place was clean and kept clean, as a wood cabin would soon start to smell iffy if it wasnât cleaned properly and regularly. I had also brought some spare beddingâ¦.just incase my âclean issuesâ had a problem with what was there but again, bedding and towels were lovely and clean and smelt fresh too and beds were comfy. The kitchen was well supplied for cooking and was clean. The living room area was comfy enough on the evening and tv worked just fine. The building work was no problem as we were out doing holiday stuff during the day. The pool was great as we pretty much had it to ourselves first thing each morning. Laundry room came in handy, that was lovely and clean too. Met a few others residents and they were all lovely and really friendly Overall we were really happy with our stay and will probably return next time we come to Devon. Thank you
