  **Review of Ty Coed Cottage, Beaumaris, Anglesey** Ty Coed is a charming and warm cottage, ideally located for exploring the beautiful island of Anglesey and within walking distance of Beaumaris.

  Its quaint and old-world appeal sets the tone for a relaxing getaway, and the convenient location is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in the local scenery and attractions. However, despite its charm, Ty Coed was unfortunately let down by several issues that need addressing. The most noticeable was the poor cleaning standards: there was mould on the windows and shower, and the towels were stained, yellowed and marked, which made them feel unclean and in need of replacement. The bedding was stored in plastic bags in a mould filled cupboard or under the bed, the cutlery drawers in the kitchen could do with a deep clean, and so on. Additionally, we were greeted with rotting flowers in a vase on the windowsill with stagnant, smelly water—a rather unpleasant first impression. The shower door was stiff and difficult to close, making showering a cumbersome task. We also encountered a more serious safety issue with sharp carpet tacks protruding from the carpet; both my son and I stepped on them, resulting in unpleasant shocks. The guest book provided in the cottage felt outdated and hadn’t been updated in quite some time. It included inaccurate information, such as the promise of complimentary Nespresso capsules, which were not provided, and incorrect instructions for filling the outdoor bins. These discrepancies added to the overall sense that the property is not being maintained to the standard one would expect. Finally, the description of Ty Coed mentioned the opportunity to “sit outside and watch the world go by,” which was a key selling point for us. However, this was misleading, as the outdoor space is entirely occupied by bins, leaving no area for sitting or enjoying the outdoors. While Ty Coed has the potential to be a lovely holiday retreat, these issues significantly detracted from our stay. With improved cleanliness, maintenance, and more accurate descriptions, this cottage could truly live up to its potential. For now, though, it falls short of the charming escape it promises to be.

  The property is in a lovely area, ideal for bird watching or seeing the many historical sites on Anglesey, however the location is spoilt by being right next to a pub and a nearby property with howling dogs, making it very noisy at times.

  Inside there is plenty of space and most things that you would need during your stay, augmented by a welcome basket of useful goodies. Our main issue was with the bath on the top floor. This is a stand-out feature when compared to other properties and one of reasons we picked this property. Unfortunately when my wife tried to use the bath it moved as she tried to get in, so she tried to get out immediately and it moved again, almost causing her to slip and fall. As the bath moved it also caused a leak, which we moped up quickly with a towel. On inspection it was obvious that the bath is not fasted to the floor and can be moved easily with one hand. This is dangerous and it was only luck that she didn’t badly hurt herself. The bath should be properly secured, or if this is the way it is supposed to be, then a warning sign should be provided to prevent further incidents. We informed Sykes Cottages about this and somebody came to the property while we were out, but they didn’t secure the bath or provide any further information, so the bath was not usable during our stay. Furthermore: - The advertisement states the property has Netflix, which it does, but although it was possible to log into the guest account, whenever we selected a programme to watch, it would exit from Netflix and go back to the TV, so it was unusable. - The DVD player is not connected to the TV, so couldn’t be used and the batteries in the remote seemed to have corroded. - The sofa is not very comfortable as the springs seem to have gone saggy Overall, I wouldn’t recommend the property to friends, and do not think it was good value given the above problems.   A lovely cottage, and beautiful setting, quiet and with lovely views both sides.

  All was clean and well maintained. Pros and cons to all 3 bedrooms: Loft bedroom has the best views and best bed, and black-out blinds in the window, but the steep and uneven staircase is unenclosed with no door so less private and hard to block out light and noise from the rest of the house. Being a loft room, much of the space is too low to walk upright in. Our kids loved hanging out in there. Small double bedroom (middle floor) has a useful built in cupboard and is fine except for having the bathroom macerator the other side of the thin internal wall from the bathroom. The macerator is about as subtle as a pneumatic drill when in use. Twin bedroom has lovely views but mattresses are not great (very wobbly). Living-dining room is comfy, but sofa seating seats 4 comfortably or 6 at a squash. Piano is a nice extra, if you are not fussy about the tuning. WiFi worked well (no phone reception in the area). Kitchen although small is well equipped. Although I have outlined some niggles above, we had a lovely stay here. There was lots to do within a reasonable drive (and despite the apparently remote location, a fabulous coffee shop within walking distance!) and the cottage was comfortable for hunkering down in when rain stopped play.

  Overall, Bodfan Peniel was a lovely cottage, ideally placed in the centre of the island making journeys to every coast easy and equidistant.

  It is located in a quiet rural spot with lovely views of the surrounding countryside, and a peaceful place to return after a day out exploring. The cottage has been tastefully updated, but could do with some coffee tables for drinks and playing games in the lounge and the rear sitting room, and some lamps for more subtle evening lighting while watching TV. The owners were very helpful and friendly, however, they didn't like us charging our EV using the extension lead (which had a thermal cut-out and was perfectly safe and an acceptable means of charging a vehicle via a 3-pin trickle charge), and on leaving, was looking to levy a surcharge, despite us advising that to top-up an electric car by 20 miles (our daily use) was probably about £2 worth of electric. No different to using the TV, running the washing machine, charging laptops etc. Given we'd paid near £1k for our week (which should more than cover our water and utilities during our stay,) this felt like a kick in the teeth. Eventually, more visitors will be arriving at Bodfan Peniel in electric cars, and the owners need to embrace this and be more accommodating. Took the shine off a great week.

  Guest book - previous guests kept referring to excellent "Welcome Pack", presumably from a previous owner of the cottage.

  Our only Welcome Pack was the starter pack of logs for the fire. General appearance and condition of the cottage was pleasing although closer inspection revealed cracked ceiling in the kitchen (a piece of the ceiling fell onto my partner's head!), wallpaper coming off the wall in a few places, tired sealant in the bathroom and shower, heavy dust on the lamp in living room. No shaver socket, which is unusual nowadays. No cupboard storage for food. The bags for dirty laundry mentioned in the Visitors Guide were not present. Never got the hang of the woodburner and because of no instruction, it was a struggle to burn the thicker logs. All the appliances worked well and the furniture and beds were comfortable. The shower worked well. TV and WiFi work perfectly. Kitchen was bright, clean and modern. Carpets were in excellent and clean condition - so there is PLENTY of good news! It was noted that the property was up for sale which possibly explains some of the flaws. Sorry if it sounds like nitpicking but a little more attention to detail would go a long way. Nevertheless a troublefree stay.
