What our customers say about their holidays

  • Jean - Verified booking

We had a lovely holiday but a few small problems.

We arrived and parked at the front of the cottage to be told by an angry neighbour that we were not supposed to park there, not a good start to the holiday. There were instructions as to where we should park in the cottage but would have been helpful to have this information before we landed!. We had a problem with the ensuite shower, firstly because it looked broken and we couldn't work out how to use it. We contacted the owner who was very helpful and told us how to turn on the shower. However it was so hot we couldn't stand under it and no way of turning it on to a cooler setting. There is another shower in the main bathroom above the bath but we were 2 separate couples so it was not really convenient for us to use that one. The mattresses are really uncomfortable with springs sticking up in some of them. We all said the same after our 1st night. Some padded mattress covers would make them more comfortable. We had to borrow cushions from the beds to use on the settees as they were very soft and deep and we oldies needed back support. Overall the cottage is very well equipped with everything you need for a self catered holiday. The views across the garden are stunning and the garden is lovely. There are lovely walks all around the area and lots of helpful info as to where to go and where to walk. We recommend The Anchor in Kippford for food. Lovely little coffee shop down at the bottom end of Castle Douglas main street. The Loch at Castle Douglas is very picturesque with a nice circular walk around it.

Lovely and pretty cottage in such a beautiful setting. I was so pleased to return for my second stay and bring my friend this time. Although advertised for 4, it probably suits either 2 or 3 people more comfortably. The kitchen, although small, is so well equipped which was important to us as we like to cook in the evening. The access to a washing machine and tumble dryer is so welcome too. The additional beach towels were welcome too, (although towels for bathing on small side). Sitting outside in the back in the afternoon sunshine is a delight and with warmer weather, I know we would have made use of the bbq. The cottage isn't without its quirks though - an oven which takes ages to warm up; tv and dvd system that takes a bit of getting used to, single beds that didn't accommodate my 6ft 2 husband very well (no way would we have comfortably slept together in the double bed), a picnic table with top on a slant, and sofas that are really uncomfortable and seemed to set off my friend's back problems. But as you will see, I have given it 4 stars as there's such a sense of peace in the cottage. My heart leapt each morning when I came through and saw the view from the lounge window! The location is just stunning and the coastal walking paths breath taking. A wonderful selection of pubs in nearby Kipford and lovely tea room with garden and great views a few steps from the cottage. Such a very special and memorable week.

Very comfortable cottage. Only 3 of us so it seemed very, very spacious but it would be roomy even if there were 5 or 6 of you. Conservatory and large dining kitchen contributed to the feeling of space. Excellent shower. Washing machine and a washing hanger in back garden. Also an indoor collapsible hanger. Comfortable beds. Super quiet location on the farm but only a 3 minute drive to Dalbeattie. Lots of nice walking nearby. Kippford is a nice small coastal village. Dalbeattie is a nice town. Good cafe. Nice meal in the pub. The small but ''packed with stuff'' Dalbeattie museum is very interesting. Spent about 2 hours in it. What a nice area overall. Unspoilt, ''undiscovered''. Castle Douglas is a nice town and New Abbey a nice village with a very good cafe. Sadly Dalbeattie FC were not playing at home during our stay. I would have gone. Did go to Queen of the South vs. Alloa Athletic on the day of our arrival. A ''seven goal thriller''.

This is our second time in Primrose Cottage. Rockcliffe has been a holiday locating for me for over 50 years now and I love the area. It bring back so many childhood memories. My family is growing now and this location will carry on into the next generation. Primrose Cottage is very well located and it’s a cottage with bags of character and it gives you everything you need for a fantastic stay. People might say it’s a little small for 4 people it’s a cottage with character its excellent clean cosy and it has everything you need. A big thank you to the owners for keeping their cottage as it was and moving it into the modern day for families like mine to get to stay In this beautiful location and we get to appreciate what we have on our own door step. 10/10 thank you.. and we had fantastic weather this time 😎

What a little gem The Barn is!

Firstly the location is stunning with Rockcliffe beach a short walk away. The Barn itself is a gorgeous, warm, comfortable & well equipped home from home. The hosts go above and beyond with making your stay one to remember! After a long drive we were welcomed by a bottle of red and delicious cheese & biscuits waiting for us it was very much appreciated by me the driver! The weather wasn’t great but gave us the excuse to put our feet up & have the fire on - heaven! The Barn is the ideal getaway retreat for couples, friends and family (the bed was ideal for sharing with my daughter) no arguments occurred all week! Thank you for a memorable stay and we will be returning x P.S. Ted the collie also appreciated his treats and doggie bowls for him to use during the stay!
