  the whole cottage needs a thorough clean and furnishings very old and worn .When we arrived Mr Sinclair was just coming out of the cottage saying the TV wasn't working and he would be back. He did return a few minutes later and sat in the room trying to fix the TV. What a start to our holiday trying to unpack with a stranger sat there. The bathroom door wouldn't open properly, old rusty bin, light over mirror not working, heater in bathroom full of dust, old rusty tin of air fresher, shower screen on bath had black mould along the bottom. The kitchen had dirty cutlery trays and all utensils in them were very old. cupboard handle broken, dead beetle between the melamine plates, spider and web in a cup. No icebox in fridge so Mr Sinclair said to use the freezer where the dogs were kept in a separate outhouse which was disgracefully dirty. We were told not to shut the curtain in the hallway as the rail was broken. This meant when we left the bedroom to use the bathroom, we were on view up the lane. The single beds were very hard with child size quilts. furniture old, random old xmas decorations etc in draws which needed cleaning out. The carpets and flooring all needs changing as it is so old. there were dozens of flies every day due to the cottage facing the horse stables. We bought fly killer and were constantly spraying them. My partner honestly thought I was going to say " take me home" but because he had booked it for my Birthday I tried to make the best of it. We left 2 leg rest from our reclining sunchairs in the cottage shed by mistake, and after a call to them the day after our return, the daughter said she would get Mrs Sinclair to ring me. I have a friend in Ayr and though I could collect them when visiting my friend later in the year but I haven't had a call back and that was a week ago. I would have contacted you before now regarding how upsetting and disappointing our holiday accommodation was but I am just recovering from Covid and haven't been up to writing. On a positive note, we loved the areas of Rockcliffe and Kippford and would like to see other areas of Scotland. Baring in mind our bad experience at Tumbling Banks would the company give us some form of compensation for not only how upset we were but also for such poor accommodation as we would use Discover Scotland again but would suggest you think twice about using this accommodation to future clients in its present state.   The cottage is in a superb location in Rockcliffe. 2 parts to the garden. The second area of garden accessed by a gate from the private road just opposite the house, goes right onto the beach. Our young dog just loved it and we always cleaned up after him,there are bins for dog poo bags located along the 'main' roadway inthe village. It is all very clean, people really care to keep the area beautiful.There are so many intersting walks from the house in all directions, with hiden places to tae a seat and watch the seabirds and rocks in the bay, and the Garden Cafe up the hill is just a 5 minute stroll and you can get delicious home made cakes to take back to the cottage if you do not want to sit out in their garden. under their apple tree.It is not a sit in cafe, but a must visit. The house is very spacious a large well equipped kitchen and utility room , even a freezer in the garage for ice creams etc.The consevatory is lovely as it looks over the front garden and onto the bay. It was a treat to sit in the lounge if the weather was a bit dodgy with the log burning stove on and it really keeps the place extra warm.There are books and hgames too to enjoy and maps of the arera to explore.The downstairs shower was the best we have ever experienced and we have stayed in many places all over Scotland.The bedrooms are spacious.Red squirrels and plenty wild birds visit the garden feeders, a joy to watch and there is a supply of bird foods in the garage to keep the feeders topped up and it adds to the homely experience of Calluna Cottage.We just wish we had the time to stay longer. An excellent home from home on the Scottish Riviera. Enjoy!

  Calluna is a lovely property in Rockcliffe, situated off the main road but with easy access to the property by car or on foot. The private road whereon several houses are situated provides a pleasant and easy walking experience for those with mobility issues and is very accessible for those requiring wheelchair assistance out doors. The property has a lovely aura of peacefulness and nature; the garden being extremely well stocked with various trees and bushes. The kitchen is reasonably equipped with basic functional oven and affords a comfortable dining experience around the large table. Downstairs bathroom is well equipped for those with mobility issues, though the beds in the bedroom across from that bathroom are not particularly comfy . . . (in my opinion) more suited for children than adults with mobility issues. The beds in the upstairs twin room are similar but the double bed in the main bedroom is very comfortable. My elderly mum, who walks with a stick, chose to use this room rather than the downstairs bedroom. Thankfully mum was able to negotiate the stairs with the use of her stick and assistance of one person. The property is as described and I am happy to recommend it. The comments made in the 'guest book' indicate the satisfaction of other guests regarding their stay there.

  Third visit to this house and reserved again for the same November period next year. The house is nicely located in a quiet area but with sea views. It has all the necessary facilities and has a good heating system which is good for the winter period. Beds are comfy with decent linen and new towels throughout. The house is not “posh” but comfortable , spacious and homely. There 2 of of plus a small dog but with space for few more guests. This part of Scotland is gorgeous but seemingly largely overlooked by tourists, ( we have been in the summer and it was not overly busy then) in in truth a lot of the touristy things are closed in winter but we don’t mind it that way. Cleve House and Gardens (National Trust) is a must as is another NT property Broughton House in Kirkcudbright which is quirky but interesting There are splendid walks from the house but you do to use a car as supermarkets and shops are within a reasonable driving commute

  This is a really nice property in a magnificent location. Sufficiently so that we have already booked for the winter The house was very clean with good beds, bed linen and towels. The decor and furnishings were also clean and functional. The bunks in the smaller bedroom we’re unused and would I suggest might have been a challenge for my “more mature “ self but kids would love them. The house is on one level and spacious.. Every thing we need was provided The driveway was adequate for one car but there appeared to be masses of street parking outside. The rear garden is secure , mature and pet friendly, there are though steps to reach it. We had a minor issue with a missing garage key on arrival but I spoke to the owner Mr Hitchens who was extremely apologetic and we coped without access for the week. Strongly recommend this property in a wonderful and maybe overlooked part of Scotland
