What our customers say about their holidays

The property itself was absolutely lovely.
Really roomy and comfortable. The owners were really friendly and made the stay really comfortable, and were very quick to act on queries. The garden was lovely and big, with apples on the trees, our 2yo loved the chickens, and the tomatoes that the owners brought over were absolutely divine! Lots of storage and space for clothes, possessions etc. Very helpful also having two dining tables to allow a space for games/drawing separate to dinner. When booking it wasnât clear at all that the property was on a main road. All three bedrooms face the main road which is a 60 road and has cars, trucks and tractors going past at all hours. Both noisy and a lot of flashing lights. It was a struggle for me and our 2 year old to fall asleep and stay asleep. The hot water tank is also very small, so while thereâs a lovely large bath it takes over half an hour to fill as you have to fill it in thirds, waiting 10 mins for the water to heat up between each lot. The listing said it was an enclosed garden, however more than once the owners would be in the garden - one time with their own family members - with gates left open so we couldnât allow our 2 year old in the garden to play without constant supervision in case she went into the owners garden. This, and the fact that all parking for the owners house was at the front of the property, meant that there was a bit of a lack of privacy as there would often be people looking in windows. There was also a washing machine which was incredibly helpful - however this was full of mould which transferred black stains onto some of our clothes and left a musty smell. Sadly didnât have enough time to give this a thorough clean during our stay to help, but did mean we had to use a family memberâs machine instead. Finally, the thermostat was under lock and key set at 16 degrees meaning the property was very chilly in the evenings with no way to easily change this. There was enough wood to light the fire for one night - you can purchase extra for £5 (presumably per night) but when a simple solution is allowing guests to turn heating up slightly this felt excessive, especially with the increase in dangerous air pollution from both the road and a wood burning fire. With a couple of small changes this could easily be a 5* property, but as it is Iâd rate 3* overall, which was still a lovely stay - but Iâm not sure weâd rush to return. That said the guest book was full of testimonials from people who return time and time again and love it, so clearly lots to love - just not quite for us.

As stated in the previous two reviews, this property was not clean.
The toilet had long black hair stuck to it and weeks of grime on the seat; the bath and floor also hadn't been cleaned. The carpets throughout had not been vacuumed and the two red chairs and settee were covered in long, cream coloured dog hairs. The beams in the large bedroom had several webbs and cellar spiders in most corners. A previous review stated the bins were overflowing upon arrival, this seems to have been rectified by not providing a bin! There was a small, dirty food waste bin on the window sill in the kitchen, but nothing provided for general waste. I called Sykes Cottages who arranged for the cleaner to return. Upon arrival the cleaner apologised and stated her partner cleaned downstairs, while she was responsible for changing the linen upstairs (clean bedding and towels were provided). The cleaner spent around 5 minutes in the bathroom then came out and asked me to inspect it; she then offered to vacuum the settee and chairs, which she did. I thanked her and told her she could go as she said she had a BBQ to attend that evening. After she left, I cleaned the bathroom and vaccumed properly, whilst my husband cleaned the kitchen sides and cupboards. It is a shame that the property is dirty because you can see that the owner has spent a lot of money on the decor and furnishings. The property is pretty and is in an ideal location for the harbour, pubs and shops. There is a steep hill to climb into the main town, which was not a problem for us as we do a lot of dog walking. When we booked the cottage at the beginning of the year, the reviews were good and it's only recent ones which are not.

Carnorfa is a lovely cottage ideally located near the centre of the village with quick access to shops and pubs.
It's bit like a Tardis, looks small from the outside but very roomy inside. Basement has a bathroom with full bath and a small living room with TV. The entrance floor has the well equipped kitchen with a washing machine and separate dryer and a dishwasher. A large cooker with all the pots and pans you may need and a coffee machine. Pleasantly surprised by the welcome back - butter, bread, milk, etc. The fresh bread was fantastic! The living room had two sofas and an arm chair and a gas fire. The TV was a smart TV. Upstairs was a bathroom with a nice tub and a separate shower and two bedrooms. The top floor had sky lights with views to the sea additional seating and another shower room and a very comfortable bed. All the showers were pressure showers apart from the one in the basement which was electric. The street is a little narrow but there is enough space to park your car but remember to place the bin in the space when you go anywhere. Near by there are a few pubs - we tried them all and all had something different. Don't forget to try the cellar bar! We were there in early April and not everything is open all week at that time so make the most of going out from Thursday to Sunday. Day trip to St David's is a must along with was walk along the coastal path there. Stunning scenery awaits you!. Allow about 2 hours for the walk which is mostly flat except towards the end. Overall, Carnorfa is an ideal place to stay at and the property is modern and well looked after and equipped with the everything that is of high quality. You get what you pay for!

I booked this cottage having stayed in another cottage on the complex before.
After booking and paying in full two weeks before our trip, I read the reviews to discover that the third bedroom has a toddler bunk bed. This was described in the small print, but I missed it. I contacted Sykes straight away to try to change the cottage. After several days of trying to get a response they told me via WhatsApp that I wouldn't be able to change the accommodation or get a refund. They were not interested. I then contacted the owner/caretaker number to discuss how they would be able to accommodate us. We had five adults in our group, and the property only has four suitable beds. Nobody bothered to contact me. We were stuck. My 18yr old had to sleep squashed into the toddler bunk, which dominated the very small room. She felt like she was sleeping in a cupboard. Upon arrival, there wasn't any welcome pack. There were dead ants all over the conservatory floor and on the dinning table. There was lots of long strands of head hair in the double bed (which was also the most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in) There were crumbs on the kitchen work surface. The extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work. The tv was described as a smart tv, we couldn't get any clear reception. I am very disappointed with Sykes who you can't get hold of, it seems that as soon as they have your money they don't care. The people they use to clean the cottage don't know what cleaning is. The only positive is that the pool and grounds were well kept and a bonus. I will not be returning or be using Sykes or any of there partners again.

The details published on the sykes website are misleading.
We were not advised that the pool had to be booked in advance in 1 hour time slots. The gym and sauna were unavailable, having looked in the gym it contained two exercise machines and a few light free weights. The property had beds to sleep 6 people however, the bunk beds in the third room are tiny, I would almost say toddler size (this was not as pictured) and to stay it was a squeeze is an understatement, the bed literally fills the room and we could just squeeze around the door. This would be ok for a young family but not teenagers. Sykes and the owner did try to resolve the issue but the suggestion that boy and girl teenagers should share a room was not acceptable to us. A sofa bed which is not advertised was the solution but not what we would have chosen if we had of known in advance as this took up the whole of the living space. The sofas are not as pictured and were also very small. The property was not comfortable for us as a family of two adults two teenagers, a child and a dog. The property was very clean and tidy and the site and facilities were exceptionally clean. It is perfectly positioned to explore the beautiful coastline. We left the property early as we all needed some sleep given the cramped conditions. It was a shame and disappointing as the area and site were lovely. More clarity is required in your advert.
