What our customers say about their holidays

This is the most unwelcoming place we have stayed.
A note informing us of problems with the water supply was uncaring particularly given the 5pm check in - which is far later than any other cottage we have stayed at. Waiting for boiled water to cool could have been avoided by leaving a litre bottle of water to get us started. And donât say âwhy not have a nice cup of teaâ. The justification for late check in was cleaning needed âbecause of the pandemicâ, which also required us to âkeep out of the way of other guestsâ. But NTS then organised a ceilidh (which was excellent) where we clearly got very close to other guests. This does not square. The fact that there were a number of maintenance problems (I left a note explaining) detracted further. Such a shame as this could be a fabulous place. The how to find the property letter we received from Sykes told us Victoria Bridge might be closed. That turned out to be a year out of date. NTS is running this place as if it were still the 19th century.

I have stayed at Mar Lodge on numerous occasions.
Beautiful apartments and area. Temperatures on this occasion hit minus 9 deg. After a walk in the surrounding hills I ran a bath which was Luke warm at most. I complained to staff and then Sykes. It appears Health and Safety has gone mad, as Aberdeen Council have made the NTS fit temperature limiters to their baths in their properties. This was NOT mentioned in the property details on Sykes website. I appreciate keeping people safe but the long soak in a deep bath, a main feature of the apartment, is now ruined (unless you want to boil a kettle 12 times). No compensation offered either despite being a loyal customer for many years. Bitterly disappointed. Offer of a £50 voucher for use within 2 years not really good enough considering itâs now nearly £600 for 4 nights in January when most other apartments were not occupied and some even had workmen in decorating during our stay. Conflicted as we love the place usually but likely may not return.

The Paddock is a lovely bungalow close to beautiful and stunning countryside.
Kirkgowan is a small and quite village with one small (friendly) shop. Sykes description of the property describes the nearest pub, The Craighlaw Arms Hotel, a 200-year old coaching inn, as been .3 of a mile from The Paddock. This is not correct. The Craighlaw has been closed for a year! The nearest pub/cafeis at least 8 miles away. We picked The Paddock over another property, which was situated 'in the country', because on holiday we like to have a 'local' for an occassional meal out, and to socialise, without the need to use a car. We have tried to raise the above with Sykes but their site is not user friendly when it comes to submitting complaints. The Paddock itself is a fine property. But we believe Sykes description of properties etc should provide a true representation. The Paddock has only been available to rent this year. The Craighlaw has been closed as a pub since last year: so it appears Sykes knew before they listed the property.

We had a great holiday at this property.
The house was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. The facilities at the house were first class and the hot tub was the âcherry on topâ. The location was great for trips to the many seaside towns in the area and for country walks with our dog. And that view from the house and garden just has to be seen to be believed!! We spoke with Grant the owner a few times and he was very nice, helpful and accommodating. The welcome pack was a nice touch and appreciated. Although we had a mixed bag of weather it didnât dampen our enjoyment of the house in the slightest. When it was wet and miserable outside the log burner fire and comfortable lounge were so relaxing and when it was warm and nice outside the garden furniture and that view really were worth the drive alone. Would highly recommend this lovely, spacious and private property to anyone and will definitely be looking to go again sometime in the future.

Due to ongoing diversions spoilt our holiday because Skye/Mark should have rescheduled or cancelled holiday.
As they were aware of situation on area, Mark also made comment on low cars not being good for the surrounding areas and damage to the road. as previous person Katie who stopped even commented on locals and people having to be airlifted out of the area due to the previous storm. I can appreciate diversions however not 2 and a half hours every day to get and visit surrounding areas. We understand it is Mother Nature however this could have been rescheduled as Skye and mark would have known about the local conditions prior to us arriving. We were looking forward to this break and left after 2 days out of 7, I genuinely feel like I have been ripped as current cost of living situation, we worked hard to pay for this trip for 2 days I genuinely feel like I have just burnt £600 which could have been rescheduled or put towards another stay later in the year.
