  We very much enjoyed our stay in the property.

  It is compact but there's plenty of storage space. It's clean and tidy and everything looks new(ish). There are two allocated parking spaces which was important to me - when I retired I spent far more than I should have on a car and I am very particular (paranoid according to my wife) where I park it. The shower is amazing and easy to use. I am not sure I can describe it adequately - you have to see it for yourself really. We ate out every night at the Sovereign Harbour which is about 15 minutes walk at a reasonable pace. There's loads of choice including Indian, Thai, Turkish, Italian, Mediterranean, Kebab/burger/fish and chips, and a Harvester. I can definitely recommend the Indian and Turkish restaurants. There is also a pub which is a sports bar which is very lively. This suited us but might not be everyone's cup of tea. Eastbourne is a little further away than we were comfortable walking so we used the local bus service. Fortunately there is a bus stop only about 50 yards from the property where you can catch the number 5A service. Unfortunately the service is not very frequent and on two occasions a bus was cancelled leaving us to wait another 30 minutes. You can take other services (3 or 4 different services in all I think so quite frequent) but these go to and from the supermarket just beyond that Sovereign Harbour restaurant area so it's about a 20 minute walk each way. Other than the cancelation mentioned, the services seem quite good and on time. Our bus passes from our home town of Gloucester worked and so we were able to travel free of charge. We have no plans to go back to Eastbourne because there are so many other places to visit but if we did we would happily book this property again.

  We had a very pleasant stay at Magpies.

  The type of dwelling with high ceilings and individual style of furniture ( but very nicely and tasteful arranged), was different than some holiday accommodation we stayed in the past. As matter of fact it felt very homely and we would have been happy staying there for a longer time. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace watching a pair of foxes at the top of the garden below. The kitchen was well appointed and easy to work in. Due to some recent spinal problem of mine I hand to sleep some nights in the second bedroom and can confirm that both beds are very comfortable. Despite the road along the park being always fully parked up, we had no problem all week long finding a parking spot right near the house. We liked that the owners send us a welcome email with an pdf giving us advance information about the place. As we like to travel and explore different places, we tend to seldom return , however this could be one of the exceptions. Thank you for providing us with a very nice holiday home.   Thank you for a very enjoyable two weeks. We have been delighted with your property. The beautiful, peaceful location is perfect. The tasteful and quality fittings and furnishings have made this feel like a real home and the vase of sweet peas that filled the air with their delicate perfume was a lovely welcoming touch. We compliment you on your information folders, they are well thought out and very comprehensive. You have been delightful hosts, thank you for the home-made rhubarb ice cream, it was delicious. We had it with blackberries that we picked on a walk. The Nutmeg in Sayers Lane serves great coffee. Ozgur, the Turkish restaurant, is excellent value, especially the Tenterden Special, 4 courses and coffee with complimentary jalapenos and olives and melon to finish. The manager is very welcoming. There is much to see around here, Hever, Chartwell and Canterbury well worth a visit.

  This was a return visit for us having stayed in 2011, and it felt like coming home! The property is spotless and has everything you require, in a quiet, beautiful and peaceful setting. It is wonderful to be able to listen to and observe the birds....woodpeckers, great tits, pheasant etc...and the squirrel trying to steal the nuts! Readers Retreat is ideally situated to visit many interesting places...Sissinghurst, Great Dixter, Bodiam Castle, Scotney Castle and many vineyards to name a few. Tenterden is a 40 min walk across the fields if you wish and is an interesting well equipped friendly town with good shops and restaurants.There is also an excellent farm shop with café just up the road. We thoroughly enjoyed revisiting places and finding new ones. It was also good to see Amanda again and catch up on news, we shouldn’t leave it so long next time! We highly recommend Readers Retreat.

  A lovely studio with everything you need for a few days break in the relaxing Kent countryside. Rachel couldn't have been more helpful and we were grateful for everything she did to help us. The surrounding villages are beautiful and a visit to The Bull at Benenden is a must. A word of advice though, if you want to eat there you must book in advance, such is its popularity. If you decide to take a walk across the fields we suggest you take an OS map. We got lost and the phone signal is sporadic at best. Our thanks to a lovely lady who came to our rescue, she helped us on our way, walking part of the route with us and she was there at the end of our walk to make sure we reached our destination safely. All in all we had a lovely time and will definitely return to this idyllic part of the beautiful Kent countryside.
