  Had an amazing break away at the chalet 150 at winterton on sea (couple with a dog).

  Comfy bed and quiet and peaceful location with spacious lounge area/dining. Loved the patio doors on front and back for dining in the morning sun at breakfast time or having a drink or two on the back in the evening sun. Everything you need is in the chalet. 10 min coastal walk to beach and 10 minute walk to local village. Local village of Winterton really lovely and calm and chilled out but with enough going in if you want something eg shop, chip shop, pub and tea room. Chip shop was so yummy but worth noting it’s cooked fresh to order so you may have a little wait but you can have a nice walk round the church or gardens or walk to the beach and back to build up an appetite. Poppy’s tearoom lovely garden round the back highly recommend for breakfast/brunch or tea and cake, also dog friendly. Fisherman’s arms pub lovely too beer garden and really modern inside nice food and dog friendly. 20 min walk from chalet to local town of Hemsby recommend a trip to the Lacton arms pub nice food and nice beer garden and dog friendly. Hemsby worth a visit for doughnuts and ice creams or pizza from pizza&kebab at the top of town also there’s a nice beach boutique store sells lovely clothes but definitely preferred winterton on sea beach and chalet site as it’s very beautiful, peaceful, idyllic and best of all very relaxing. Also the local residents here at the chalets are super friendly and welcoming. Our dog made lots of dog friends too! He loved it, he was so cosy in the chalet as well. He especially loved the beach and coastal walks and playing in the sun and the long stretch of grass lawn with sea views near the chalets but the beach definitely his favourite just amazing winterton on sea beach as it stretches out for miles and miles and it’s so peaceful. The sand is lovely and soft and warm and the sea has beautiful waves, the dunes are great too, we were lucky enough to see a seal in the sea one of the days too. We enjoyed a 10 min drive from the chalet to a local village called Horsey, had an amazing breakfast at Poppylands tea room world war 2 inspired amazing place really gorgeous and lovely food and cake and cute gift shop. Also we were so thrilled to walk to horsey gap beach and got to see loads of seals swimming in the sea there! Even a little pup on the shore! Well worth a visit, only a short walk from tea rooms. 7 mile drive to Great Yarmouth from the chalet - perfect for families who want a Blackpool style/type holiday or an enjoyable place for people like us who just wanted a nice mooch round the shops and a walk and food near the beach. Great Yarmouth also has a big Tesco if you need supplies, we got some bbq food one night and had it on winterton beach which was awesome! ‘The lion pub’ on the way to Horsey is well worth a visit as well lovely meal and really lovely couple who own it, made a real fuss of our dog, dog biscuits and everything. I cannot recommend this place enough, it’s just perfect! The location is brilliant, you don’t need to use your car at all really unless you want to visit other places, but the chalet is perfect for what you need and the beach and everything is just gorgeous! Worth noting that the chalet isn’t detached but still a quiet location not overlooked from the front but is more communal on the back. I would highly recommend this hidden gem!   The entrance to the property was around the back which I knew but it was behind the Victoria Hotel and wasn't the nicest of environment's for accessing a property. The property information did not say that there was just one window in the living room with opaque glass, as outside the window there was the outside area of another property. There was one little window you could open but basically it was quite dark and smelt quite 'stale' in there. Unfortunately my daughter had wanted to do her revision in that room for her exams after half term, but it was so dark and unleasant that she couldn't study there. In the end we came home early so she could do some revision at home. I do think that this type of arrangement should have been explicit in the property information as it was quite unpleasant and not expected. I feel therfore that it was not good value for money having not spent a whole week there because of the low quality of that downstairs accommodation.

  Another wonderful stay at the Hill of Tarvit.

  We were pleased to see lovely new sofas and WiFi this time. The garden was well kept and it was great to go and buy some fruit and veg from the newly installed larder on the estate. The cottage was cosy and relaxing as ever. The only downside was no hand wash in the toilet, which would have been nice as other National Trust cottages do this as standard, along with some welcoming dog treats, poo bags and food. Also, the ironing board cover is the same one as five years ago and it’s very thin, so when any clothes are ironed, the diamond metal pattern transfers onto clothes. These are, however, minor details and we all had a fantastic stay. The staff at Hill of Tarvit are very friendly and are always happy to help. It was great visiting our usual beaches and walks at Tentsmuir and St. Andrew’s as well as Culross Palace, up to see the Selkies and an absolutely delicious meal at the Dory restaurant in Pittenweem. We will hopefully be back again next year.

  We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday to East Cottage.

  This is the third time we’ve been and it is always clean, tidy and very relaxing. It’s also a great base to visit the rest of Fife. The facilities were great-the oven, tv and shower are easy to use and the cottage was very cosy and comfortable. The only downside was a note on Thursday about a PAT test on the plugs and all the electrical equipment on Friday. We weren’t given a time either, so we felt we needed to be out of the cottage as our dog is very nervous of strangers. We got up early on our last full day as we didn’t want to be in our pyjamas when they arrived. The PAT tester arrived at the adjacent cottage around 10am and was there for over an hour, by which time we had left for the day. However, it made us feel like we had to be out and really this should have been booked for the Saturday morning changeover. We had paid an awful lot of money for a week and felt like we couldn’t be in the property.

  The 5pm entry means a lost day of the holiday, with a 10am exit gives 7 hours for cleaning, excessive.

  The cottage is nice inside surrounded by tree making it gloomy and cold in the evening. Despite fabulous sunshine our entry was cold and it took time to get the chill off the place. Tastefully furnished. Spent matches from a previous user on the hearth. The mat on the main doorstep is a disgrace. The outdoor table is filthy. Thankfully the grounds were a delight. A gloomy place due to the proximity of trees. The price for two people using two thirds of the available space is robbery, some kind of stepped pricing would be fairer. When the Trust had their own holiday Department one felt part of the organisation with a welcome from the Property Manager, now there is a disconnect from the Trust.
