    Swings and Roundabouts for us.

It could do with a few tweaks and I like to leave honest reviews with constructive criticism. Overall it was a nice quiet getaway with beautiful surroundings and nice walks including straight from the gate. Loved the big enclosed garden for our pooch who also loved the outside hot water tap after a walk in the muddy fields! The pizza oven was new for us so that was great fun and toasting marshmallows for super was a great treat! The underfloor heating was toasty and the kitchen was well equipped. It was decorated for Xmas and a bottle of tasty prosecco was a nice touch and a pint of milk also. Hot tub was nice, good windbreaker/privacy screen to pull across as it can feel like you are overlooked by the Cabin on the hill. Great that the hot tub had Wi-Fi, only one speaker was working but still loud enough. So we had originally booked and paid for the Cabin at the top of the hill but was then contacted by Sykes to let us know that it wasn’t actually available but the lodge was, so that was lucky! The photos need updating as it shows nice reclining sofas in the first half of the pictures and then changes to what they actually are in the second half of the pictures… not reclining and not very comfortable unfortunately. We didn’t find the mattress very comfy as it dipped a lot in the middle but everyone’s comfort is different. We were told on the day before arrival not to use the front door as it wasn’t working properly and that it would be fixed after Xmas so hopefully that’s all good now. We were left information to say no cushions were on the sofas etc or board games and dvds available due to ‘Covid19’, however we did find the board games and dvds in the utility room so a little bit confused by that. Shower head needed a good scrub to remove lime scale which was blocking up the holes. Water temperature of the shower was very temperamental, however owner was more than happy to change the shower and communicated well, however we decided it wasn’t a massive drama so was happy for them to leave it over Xmas and hopefully it’s all good now. Log burner is always a favourite of ours, however a puddle of water seemed to form on the top of it which then constantly dripped on to the fire place. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Beautiful lodge, perfect in every way for my family holiday.

We loved the private location surrounded by trees & open fields. We were greeted with a bottle of wine on arrival & the owners of the property were at hand if ever we needed them. The lodge was clean & tidy & had everything we needed for a fun & relaxing holiday. The hot tub was the perfect way to unwind at the end of each day & a great way to get my teenagers away from technology!! We found everything in the lodge very easy to use such as the hot tub, the oven, the hobs, the washing machine etc. We loved that all the light switches were labelled too. The outdoor pizza oven was a real bonus & we used it twice during our stay to cook the most delicious home made pizzas. The kids enjoyed toasting marshmallows too. The lodge is in a very remote area so you do need to be prepared to drive a little but that was fine for us & exactly what we were looking for as we took our pups, one of which is very reactive so the more private the better! The only downside was the mile long drive up to the property which is incredibly bumpy but not really a problem. The garden was completely secure which was perfect for our frenchies. They had a wonderful time exploring the grounds & we felt completely relaxed that they were safe. We had access from our garden to many paths around the surrounding fields, & found a lovely little stream just out the back. We also found a fabulous walk just a mile out of the village of Bleddfa called Fishpools walk. It had free parking & the most stunning views as you walked up through Radnor Forest. During our stay we visited Griffin Lloyd shooting range for a great clay pigeon shooting experience, our children went on a fabulous full day hack on horse back across the Black Mountains at the Brecon Beacons with Tregoyd Mountain Riders. We went Go Karting at Herefordshire Raceway Karting which was so much fun, we visited the amazing Gigrin Red Kite feeding centre & we all had a brilliant time at the Severn Valley Quad Trekking experience just to name a few. These activities were all within an hours drive of the property. Gorgeous property, picturesque location & we would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you Darren & Lindsey for being great hosts, we absolutely loved our stay & didn’t want to go home.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My partner and I recently had the pleasure of staying at a charming cabin in Mid-Wales, and we cannot recommend it highly enough!

From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the stunning natural surroundings and the cozy vibe of the cabin. **Location:** Nestled in the heart of the Welsh countryside, the location was absolutely ideal for nature lovers like us. We enjoyed easy access to numerous walking trails that offered breathtaking views of rolling hills, lush forests, and serene streams. Each day, we embarked on invigorating hikes, appreciating the calm and tranquility that the area provides. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or just looking for a leisurely stroll, there’s something for everyone nearby. **Accommodations:** The cabin itself was immaculate and well-equipped, striking the perfect balance between rustic charm and modern comfort. We appreciated the thoughtful touches, from the warm decor to the fully stocked kitchen that made our stay feel like a home away from home. The living area was cozy, making it the ideal spot to unwind after a day of exploring. **Hot Tub:** One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the hot tub! After long days of hiking, nothing was more relaxing than soaking in the warm, bubbling water while taking in the picturesque views around us. It was a wonderful way to unwind each evening under the stars, adding a touch of luxury to our getaway. **Overall Experience:** We left feeling rejuvenated and thoroughly refreshed, thanks to the combination of outdoor adventures and relaxing downtime in the hot tub. The peace and quiet of the countryside made our stay even more special, allowing us to reconnect and recharge away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. If you’re looking for a serene cabin experience in Mid-Wales, complete with stunning landscapes and a hot tub, this is the place to go! We can’t wait to return!

Stayed here with my girlfriend and dog for New Year 24 into 25 and had a lovely 3 nights.

We do these sorts of getaways semi-regularly so are always looking for similar stuff when we come away (hot tub, enclosed garden, secluded, dog friendly, value for money). My girlfriend said that this was one of if not her favourite place we’ve been to. Personally, from previous experience and weighing everything up, this would’ve been middle of the road for me. There were too many small things that could’ve been improved for it to be the best (only 1 hot tub speaker working, the privacy screen not working properly, headrests coming off all the time with some already missing, living room sofa really uncomfortable and different to the one pictured, no salt and pepper upon arrival, only 2 toilet rolls provided for a house of 4 across 3 nights, horrific state of the final mile drive into the lodges, general state of the pizza oven area although maybe it’s the wrong time of the year for that). None of these things are huge, but when I take into consideration what I’ve paid in the past for cottages and what we’ve got and then compare it to this time, I feel I’ve gotten more for my money previously. That being said, the seclusion and enclosed garden was really appreciated as well as the hot tub being so close to the patio door. The beds were so comfortable and loved how dark it was at night, so easy to drift off to sleep. The wine left for us on arrival was a nice touch too.

  • Joanna - Verified booking

Firstly, appreciate we arrived an hour early but the property was obviously ready for us arriving.

We asked the lady in the property if we could go inside as we needed the Wi-Fi for work. She called her ‘manager’ who stated we could go inside if we paid £20 to a link. We chose to sit in the car. Secondly, place wasn’t very clean. Food remnants down the cushions of the ‘sofa’ which tips forward when you sit on it, a tv that isn’t watchable due to where it’s situated, and a fridge that’s both marked and damaged and the freezer obviously hasn’t been defrosted in years - we couldn’t actually put anything in it without it falling out. Next, misleading information - ‘1 mile to the nearest pub’. It’s not. It’s 1.75-2 miles and the road doesn’t have a pavement and is unlit. And as for ‘put the lid back on the hot tub correctly or we’ll fine you £50’ - what on earth are you thinking?! First time using Sykes cottages and this property and will be the last. We came home 2 days early (which we notice hasn’t been acknowledged) as we were completely fed up. Either represent the property and area correctly or don’t do it at all. Such a shame as Wales is beautiful but when you learn you could have stayed in a two level property right in the centre of Rhayader for £10 less PER NIGHT, it doesn’t help. Won’t be back. And anyone who asks about Sykes cottages, won’t be getting a recommendation from us. You ruined our holiday. Thanks.
