What our customers say about their holidays

An incredible place, even as a solo traveller!I absolutely loved my stay at The Pheasant, I have been daydreaming about it since I left! I stayed for two nights as a solo traveller on a delightfully sunny February weekend. The accommodation itself was very cosy, the bedding was incredibly soft and comfortable and it was a battle with myself to get up and out so as not to waste the day away in it! I am a keen birdwatcher and was delighted by the number of birds on the property alone, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Linnets, Green Finches, to name a few. I even heard a Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming nearby. Sadly didn't catch any hoots of owls come nightfall, but I was blessed by an uninterrupted view of the stars, and some planets too! It gets completely dark out and thanks to the nearby observatory is a protected dark sky, so stargazers will be thrilled. The facilities (bathroom, cooking, and cleaning) were plentiful, and I wasn't left wanting for anything. The handheld vacuum under the sink came in very handy, too. I paid extra for the hot tub and was very glad for it. It takes a little while to warm up, and I hadn't fed it enough wood (but Julie was incredibly helpful over text when I asked for help). It stayed warm over night and was still usable the next morning. I also used the chiminea. There is a very affectionate cat, Brian, who visited, and we hung out on the deck owing to his ban from the hut. He's very playful and will happily hunt a stick for you.The local area was lovely for both long and short walks, with some horse traffic. The area is quite agriculture-heavy and there are some larger farms within a 20-minute walk radius so keep an eye out for machinery on the roads. The local village of Great Ellingham is very pretty, and I ate lunch at The Crown which has some good vegetarian options. Do also pop into the medieval church nearby to see some original paintings. The hut was warm and the Alexa was very useful for music and was easily heard from the deck.I don't drive and got a taxi from the centre of Norwich for £28.50 each way. The location was easy to find and well signposted, and the directions in the visitor pack and confirmation email were clear and easy to follow. Walking to local amenities wasn't a problem especially with the sunny weather.Overall, I would highly recommend The Pheasant to anyone who's considering it. It might have been a bit of a squeeze for a couple, but certainly not uncomfortably so. Do also spend the extra money to have the hot tub access, it was very dreamy under the stars. I am very much considering coming back!

The lodge was very well equipped and also nice and private with the trees and hedging planted around it.
This is an excellent location and we would happily stay here again. The hot tub was a real treat to come back to after a day of exploring and a nice surprise to find a wine fridge in the kitchen as well. The bed was extremely comfortable, couch was comfortable and a decent sized tv with fast internet all added to our enjoyment. When we arrived there was milk in the fridge, tea, coffee, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets too. Minor negatives: We could have used more hangers in the bedroom closet. Could use hooks inside the front door to hang coats and to hang the keys. Would have been handy to have hooks outside by the hot tub to hang towels. Another table and chairs on the south facing deck so you can sit out and anjoy the evening would be nice. A shelf in the shower to put shampoo and shower gel on would also be nice. There was no pole (that we could find) to open the skylights. We can understand though that some people might open them and forget so it might have deliberately been removed. These are all minor negatives and just suggestions, none of them would stop us staying here again. One thing that frustrated us during our stay though: We could never work out what the additional remote was for in the bedroom. We thought it might have worked the tv bracket over the bed (another nice touch) but it didn't seem to do anything. Would love to know what it did! In response to complaints left in some other reviews: In reference to the missing door on the washing machine, that's just cosmetic and have you considered that trying to get a replacement during lockdown can take months. There were a few spider webs, so what! Often you only spot those in a certain light and if you wipe them away they re-appear a few hours later. It's not the cleaners fault!

When we first made contact to Phill the one of the owners we just needed some help on where we get the key for property and any other info that would useful to us.
He told us where to collect the key and he also asked if we wanted the hot tub heated up already for when we arrived and what temperature. Iâm pregnant so I said Iâll just dip my legs in for a few mins. They asked what drinks we would like on arrival we obviously went for soft drinks but they offer alcoholic drinks too. On the way down we gave them a call and told them we will be arriving late they were absoloutley fine with this. They heated the hot tub at a safe temperature for me as Iâm pregnant so it was luke warm but still enjoyable. When we arrived at Heather Hut the owners were there to greet us the showed me and my partner how to use everything. The bed folds away into a sofa and visa versa there are information cards explaining how to do this and a video. There was booklets about what to do in the area and local restaurants which deliver also. In the fridge we had fresh milk, water and butter provided in the freezer there was ice. Cleaning supplies provided. And shower supplies provided. The hot tub was lovley and relaxing and the views are amazing even from the hot tub. There are little heaters in barn where the hot tub is to keep warm they worked wonders. Overall we couldnât of picked a better place to stay for a few nights away. They did more than enough for us and theyâre super friendly. There is loads to do in the local areas lots of shops. Would definitely recommend if your looking for a couples get away.

What a fantastic stay we had here!
The property itself, the location and the excellent hosts made our little get away such a wonderful experience. The generous welcome pack, the well maintained facilities and tranquil surroundings made our stay nothing short of perfect! The hostâs attention to detail making your stay special and their approachable nature made the whole experience from checking in to checking out very relaxed and enjoyable. They provided helpful information about the local area such as walks, activities and eateries worth a try; they explained clearly how to use all of the facilities and made it clear that they were contactable if we needed anything during our stay but didnât hover and gave us privacy throughout the entire stay. The views from the property are breathtaking and being able to look upon them while in the hot tub, listening to music on a speaker provided by the host and enjoying a glass of wine also gifted by the hosts was such an enjoyable and wonderful experience. You are short of nothing in the Shepherdâs Hut, a comfy bed, robes and slippers, a warm shower with shampoo etc and all the cooking facilities needed with complimentary coffee etc. a heater near the hot tub if required and romantic lighting around the outdoor area for sitting around the fire pit. A beautiful property and experience all round. Thank you Lisa and Phil for your excellent hospitality. We will definitely be back!

A fantastic location and a property full of everything you could need.
The house was immaculate and well looked after. The hot tub was a favourite of our trip and, due to the location of it on the property, was very private and hidden. The bed was comfortable and there was not any sleep missed. Lots of worktop space for cooking and a large fridge/freezer to store food. A problem we did run into was that when showering (even with the windows open) we kept setting off the fire alarm. In the end we had to have the patio doors open which did raise privacy issues and it wouldâve been nice if we could open the sky light to avoid this. The washing machine was a great touch when staying for a whole week however there was no clothes dryer or washing line to dry our washed clothes so we had to improvise with some string. A couple of improvements such as hooks by the hot tub for towels, a clothes dryer and a shower shelf to store shampoos would take the accommodation above and beyond. Having said that, it certainly didnât hinder our time there, we absolutely loved our stay and would definitely recommend to others and will be back to stay again.
