What our customers say about their holidays

  • Michael - Verified booking

Our party of 6 (and a puppy) had a wonderful 3 night stay at Sunset Lodge over the Easter Weekend.

The location of the lodge is perfect, being next to a beautiful lake and nice grassy area for the children to play (football in our case!) We were extremely lucky with the weather so the hot tub was popular. We used the barbecue and caught a few fish too (returned to the water, didn't barbecue!). The lodge itself is very clean, well stocked with DVD's, a couple of board games, bedding and towels and the welcome basket with wine, chocolate eggs, crisps and dog treats immediately made us feel at home and put us in a great mood after our drive from Essex. The response to our request/query was almost immediate and very informative. We didn't manage to get the WiFi going (used our own phone data fine) but in our case, it did us a massive favour making the children want to be more active! You need to purchase the entertainment pass (£35 total for all guests in our lodge) as you are asked to show them for pretty much everything if you want to venture over to the clubhouse/restaurants/shops/arcade/etc. We had a couple of lovely meals there and our children enjoyed the football court and arcade especially. There is only one guarded entry/exit point (unless you want to climb over pretty high gates), so we felt very comfortable leaving our eldest to have a bit of freedom within the boundary (if that's freedom!). Our favourite place was the lodge though. We would definitely love to return one day. Lincolnshire is a beautiful place going by the drives we went on. We highly recommend a trip to Wild Pines (35/40 mins North) if you have any budding climbers in the family/party. It's a high ropes experience which we (ages 7 to 40) loved. It's very well explained and organised and the staff are first class. Again the weather helped. All in all, we had such a great time and I'm sure you will too. Michael and family. Accessibility a real problem for normal cars.

Doesn’t live up to 5 tick rating. Getting to the cottage is a real problem for normal cars. A long, rough, very potholed track - difficult to avoid scraping the bottom of the car - quite stressful. We would hesitate to recommend the cottage for this reason. Apart from that there are lots of positives. It's spacious and generally well equipped. Big, interesting garden. Good location (once you've overcome the track) for the southern Peak District. Kids loved the hot tub. You can also walk into the interesting town of Belper. But the 5 ticks from Sykes (and the price) comes with certain expectations- and it didn't match those expectations. None of the problems are major, you can live with them, but that is not what is expected. A list: Several of the bedrooms have no wardrobe or hanging space (living out of a suitcase isn’t luxury) On arrival you are met with the barn full of unsightly rubbish (it's out of sight from the house though) The garden could do with a decent tidy-up. Things that are missing: black rubbish bags, tea towels, washing up scrubbers (all these were provided when asked). Also enough soap, dishwasher tablets, washing detergent, paper towels. There has become an expectation of a bit of a welcome pack. Sorry to sound ungrateful but one bottle of wine and one packet of crisps amongst 12 people doesn’t really cut it. Could also do with checking that pots and pans have been washed up properly - which they weren't

    Overall a good stay.

Positives, a great welcome pack and good selection of games, the hot tub is massive which is great. Good to have off-road parking and location right in the town centre is excellent. I agree with others that the pictures do make it look bigger than it is. Staying with a baby, we couldn’t get the pram in the front door as the corridor and baby gate made is so narrow. I used the washer - an essential staying with a baby - but then found the dryer wouldn’t work as the water tub was full but it was impossible to empty without taking the kitchen apart to get to it. The mattress in the first floor double room sinks in the middle and wasn’t comfortable. The bathroom on the first floor has been grouted not silicon sealed between the tiles and bath meaning it’s got gaps and the grout looking a bit dirty - you notice these things when bathing a baby! Staying with a parent who has mobility and sight issues, the floors are uneven throughout the property and the downstairs shower room is very small. Part of the reason of booking this property was it had a ground floor bathroom and bedroom. One of the jets in the hot tub doesn’t work as the grey dial that switches it on/off is stuck/broken in the off position. This is an honest review of what we found and feedback to the owners and we did have a good stay.

We’ve stayed in different lodges in Tattershall over the past 4 years.

This one was by far the best! Up to date and fresh furnishing. Bath is a bonus as my child hates showers. Full size single beds - not the smaller ones you get in caravans. Good size wardrobes. Washing machine is a bonus so you don’t go home with loads of washing - ideal for if you have kids or long stay. Dishwasher- thumbs up. Shower en suite - good size . The lodge is in a quiet area overlooking the aqua sports lake. While there are people on the lake 10-6/7 pm you don’t feel like it invades your privacy. It’s fun to watch. You can sit in the hot tub and relax with the beautiful views. We took food with us because the restaurants in the complex aren’t great and you need an entertainment pass. But we have previously used local pubs/ the chip shop and Chinese which are are 4-5 min drive max. There’s a farm park 5 mins drive - £6.50pp which is a fun day out and Woodhall spa nearby for walks, visit the outdoor heated pool. There are RAF aircraft practicing above which we love and don’t mind the sound. We didn’t want to leave because the lodge was so beautiful. My advice if staying in Tattershall- pay the extra for lake views! As soon as returned home we booked a weekend in October here.

    The lodge was lovely.

Clean, spacious and comfortable. The x box had some excellent family games which was perfect for when it was raining. The grounds were also lovely. The hot tub had a lot of use! The castle was closed but there is a nice little walk on the website which is only 1.9k so good for kids not wanting to walk far. This was a private booking and unfortunately we weren’t made aware we would need passes for everyone to access the facilities. We weren’t interested in swimming but the passes were needed just to access the restaurants and arcade. This cost a further £50 which made eating out very expensive indeed. The money paid didn’t even include crazy golf which was another £5 per head. It also meant a long time in a queue waiting to get into guest services to pay for the passes. Part of the reason it took so long is we hadn’t been told we would need to register for COVID reasons before getting our passes. We also weren’t informed everything needs booking online which meant we were very limited in where we could go, what we could do and when. Overall, this was a good break and I would definitely go back but information could be significantly improved.
