What our customers say about their holidays

We have been visiting The Portland Suite for a number of years now and St Michaels house for 6 years I believe.
The decoration is a really good standard with lovely local art on the walls and the new carpets throughout are a welcome new addition. Unfortunately despite the wardrobe space being good, there continues to be very limited hangers (you have to bring your own). Drawer space is also very limited in the bedrooms, nowhere for trousers / shorts / jumpers and we end up having piles on the floors. In my opinion 10.5 tog duvets in the summer should be swapped for 4.5 or 7.5 tog, we end up every year taking the duvets out and using only the covers with a blanket for colder mornings ( again that we bring from home). The seating furniture in the living room has seen better days now, particularly the cream sofa bed and is uncomfortable to sit on for a period of time, but it was nice to have all the extra decorations and cushions back and the lamps in the living areas. The best thing is the location and easy parking, we are really close to the main shopping and eateries and short walk to the beach as long as you are fit enough to deal with the steep hills and steps. Given the large price rise for 2023, unfortunately this will probably be our last year at St Michaels House. :(

This is a lovely property, with a great location.
It was very comfortable for six people. I would not wish to be there with eight. It is certainly big enough for eight people, and would not feel over-crowded. However, you can only (just) fit six to eat at the kitchen/dining table, and the seating in the sitting room only just suits six people - you certainly couldn't get eight people relaxing to watch a film in there, for example. All it would take is a bigger kitchen/dining table, and an extra large sofa and it would be perfect for eight. The listing is not accurate, in that none of the windows on the front open (so, that's three of the four bedrooms and the sitting room). I expect it's because of the (very efficient) secondary double-glazing as it is on the main road into Lyme, but we'd have preferred some noise, and the ability to open the windows. The dishwasher needs salt and rinse aid, which was not supplied. All that said, we would return. Everything else excellent - clean, comfortable, generally spacious and very close to beach and town.

A lovely spacious, yet compact, flat.
Plenty of storage space and well equipped with most things you would need, as a family of four (could do with an additional large saucepan though!). Located close to everything Lyme Regis has to offer and has the bonus of on-site parking. We found the double bed too firm for our liking - had to use the spare duvet for extra padding. When the flat above was occupied, it sounded like a herd of elephants were stomping across the ceiling. This was particularly evident during the evening (not good for children trying to sleep). The door to the twin room could not be shut properly (unless it was forced shut - in which case it became a potential fire hazard - we discovered this on our first morning, when our two children (aged 11 & 13) couldn't get out of the room and couldn't wake us, despite knocking on the walls). However, despite a couple of negatives (which can mainly be resolved), we thought this was a fab flat.

The flat was clean but it had a strong smell of damp, no call from the people who owned the flat to ask if everything was okay and if we wanted to ask any questions.
If you want to be near the beach, shops and parking this flat is for you. If you can put up with noise from the flat above with the people above moving around ( which itâs their fault because the owner hasnât put anything on the floor to stop the noise) Damp smells, dark, bedding like paper, The shower is good with plenty of hot water. The garden is not well kept just the grass is cut thatâs it. Overall it was ok, very basic good for parking as itâs expensive to park in Lyme Regis. Lyme Regis is very nice there is a sandy beach you may have to get there early as it gets quite busy. Plenty of places to eat and if you want the supermarkets there is one close to the flat. Lyme Regis has a few steep hills especially near the the flat. Would I recommend the flat yes. If you donât mind the things I have mentioned. ( very basic)

Great location for the shops and beach taking only 2 minutes to get to everything.
The property is spacious with plenty of room. Clean and very well presented. It is advertised that only 2 of the windows do not open, but only one bedroom window out of the 4 open meaning it can get quite stuffy in the house. Bins were overflowing when we arrived and as the main bin hadnât been labelled. Previous holiday residents clearly didnât want to carry the bins out the short distance to the road. This required us to email as was unsure as to why it was like this. Having a washing machine is wonderful as not all properties offer this. Consider for future though whether keeping it outside is viable or adding a basket and clothes airer outside would keep it viable to stay there.
