  The apartment was clean and welcoming.

  Sadly, on the Sunday, during the stormy weather, water was pouring through the windows and causing minor flooding to floor and surrounds. In effect, we spent most of the day mopping up. Add to this the lack of heating which made for a most uncomfortable day which only improved following the lengthy intervention (on mobile phone) of John under whose guidance we were able to restore the heating. On a separate note, it was noticeable that someone else in the building had kept a tv/radio on 24/7 and, often, in the small hours, appeared to be arguing or shouting, slamming doors and making for an uncomfortable stay. As a result of this, we decided to vacate the premises a full day before expiry. It is unlikely that we will be returning to what could have been a most welcome break. I regard Portland as my spiritual home having spent a number of years on the island in naval service.# If, or when, we return to Portland in the future, it will almost certainly be to different accommodation. PS Tried to contact the owner on the Sunday and was informed that she was abroad and what could she do?

  Amazing views, great walks.

  I'm a huge lifelong fan of Portland Bill and knew the area well. Maritime House is just back from 'The Bill' (tip of the island), up a small hill. You can walk to the Bill or Church Ope Cove, or the coastal path easily from here. The view is just incredible, full stretch of the water with lighthouses visible when it's not foggy! The accommodation was perfect for me and my 6 year old. Sofa bed is the most comfy I've ever seen (a real mattress) and the main bed is also comfortable. Shower room is nice, smart TV, WiFi works well. It's clean and tidy. The only thing I'd say is to be aware that it's pretty tricky to cook. I did use the microwave (might have tried using it as a combi oven if we'd been there longer) but it's not geared up for cooking. And also: the fantastic view does mean huge windows which let in the glorious sun so it was hot hot hot. I anticipated this and brought a fan. I suggest you do in July or August etc, although you may not need it. Owner was contactable and really helpful. Hairdryer provided, by the way! Overall, really recommended, we had a great time.

  The window blind didn't function properly as was fitted incorrectly and has a fault with the fitting at the rail for three of the panels such that when you close the blind to keep the sun out the blind doesn't rotate properly.

  The walls are paper thin and the adjoining properties occupents can be heard easily and this goes on til late hours/early morning. There was no mention that people staying need to bring a sharp kitchen knife as one is not provided. There is no specified 'designated parking' for the individual property as stated is ambiguous at best as to where you can park (we had to ask a permanent resident).that in front is pot luck as to whether you can get a space, otherwise there is parking 100metres walk to the entrance from the other parking available (the sign states Buses only though!) At the least a simple map of the front of the main building to show where you can park would help people in the future. A smashed window of the front door on the main entrance to the building and internally looking like a building site was somewhat detracting.

  A lovely, clean, well maintained and welcoming apartment with the most stunning views (I spent hours just sitting out on the balcony looking out at the view).

  Four adults in our party and we didn't have transport ....prior to arriving I wasn't sure how we were going to cope but once we were there we had no problems whatsoever. We took full advantage of a weekly group save ticket of £55 (for up to 5 people) and we travelled the whole of the Dorset coast . We had a brilliant holiday. Portland itself is steeped in history and the views are spectacular. The welcome pack we found on arrival had loads of info on the surrounding area. What can I say more except it's a lovely lovely apartment. The group consisted of four very tired and stressed older nurses in need of some respite after Avery hectic few years...we came away so relaxed ..so it's back to the wards we go. Thankyou Daphne and Matthew and dream Cottages for the best holiday

  Hi -- the flat is well situated overlooking the harbour.

  And convenient for a number of site seeing activities and the coastal path. Great to be able to have breakfast and dinner on the balcony. The kitchen has everything you need and both bedrooms and bathrooms were great. Only additional comment -- need to include mention of the parking voucher in the joining instructions and ensure the blue folder with the instructions & voucher are left out for people to find. Would definitely go back again!
