What our customers say about their holidays
Amanda - Verified booking
We have been very dissatisfied with our accommodation at clooneavin.
First impressions were that not all the photos were part of our accommodation. Dog friendly meant that all the upholstery smelt of damp dog and looked like it hadnât been laundered in a long time. All amenities was incorrect! We were shown to a pay meagre for electric and heating which took £1 coins. So we ended up spending a lot more just to keep warm. The wall in the master bedroom was wet!! The wooden kitchen utensils were covered in fury mould. And one of the toilets made such a pound noise when you flushed it sounded like the pipes were going to explode. In the details book we were shown to advised to hoover, clean with cleaner provided and strip all beds. Now Iâm a clean person everywhere was wiped down when we left. But this made us think! This place isnât getting a deep clean in between visits and this made us feel even more upset with our holiday. The kids were really disappointed too and this was our first holiday in 2 years . We were all so fed up and disappointed with the misleading details for this accommodation that we left 24 hours early and couldnât wait to get home. Needs a lot of maintenance very old and run down. Upholstery and beds need replacing. I really feel we should have our money refunded!!

Large period sash windows overlook the impressive view over town and sea to the Welsh coastline beyond.
You will need to feed the meter £6 a day to at least keep the chill off on 2/3 low/med setting, but will require significantly more if you want cosy or if very cold or for running hot water. We went green and switched the immersion heater off and used electric shower and boiled water for basins, so spent £34 not including the £5 already in the meter when we arrived. Probably would benefit with electric blankets as the nights can be challenging. Jim Jams and bed socks a must. In the spring or summer I imagine it would be an absolute delight to stay there with all of the sash windows open and the sound of the tumbling river from the gorge below filling the main room. The furnishings, fixtures and fittings are in keeping with the historical character of the building and the kitchen has all the basic items for self catering. it has a very quirky and eclectic shared entrance, a somewhat theatrical emporium overflowing with wonderful potted plants, prints and paintings, a piano, and carefully arranged cushions, antiques and collectibles; a creative reflection of Gill - its warm and ebullient owner who clearly loves the house where she lives and welcomes her guests.

We loved our stay at this apartment, Gillian made us feel very welcome and at home.
If you like period features, huge sash windows, spectacular sea views, comfortable furnishings and quirky vintage decor, this is the place for you! There is a private path direct from the house that zig-zags down through the steep hillside garden, giving a three minute walk direct to Lynmouth harbour front and a great pub. Another walk, up a tarmac public path to Lynton, is possibly the steepest I've ever walked up, but give it a steady 10 minutes and you soon get to the shops and other pubs there. Don't be put off by the electricity meter, we only used about £7 in a week (including the £5 already in when we arrived) and we cooked most nights, although I imagine that heating in colder months would use quite a bit more. The apartment has its own private access as well as the shared access through the reception area. There's also a terraced seating area just outside the windows to sit out on warmer days. A great value stay.

Flat 8 has a serious damp problem.
Even in the middle of August, the flat is cold. The smell of damp hits you as you walk through the apartment door. The flat itself is nice with decent sized rooms for a holiday and beautiful views from the lounge. However, the coldness and dampness stopped us being able to dry anything that needed washing and towels stayed wet from day one. It would also be preferable to have duvets on all the beds not just for the bunk beds. If you're on holiday, I don't know anyone who wants to make up 2 beds with sheets and blankets everyday. Lastly, the owners didn't know how many people were staying there so we had to find them, collect and them make up 3 more beds the evening of our arrival. A bit of a communication failure there!

The room has the most spectacular views of Lynmouth.
Gillian is a very nice welcoming lady who makes you feel as though the place is your own without any petty rules and regulations. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who likes walking as it is situated half way up the hill between Lynton and Lynmouth so whichever way you go you will be going uphill either on the way out or on the way back. It is a good base for driving to places like Ilfracombe and Woolacombe and Minehead. Best meal of the week was at the Blue Ball on the road out of Lynmoth really first class. Access to the property is up a narrow driveway not suitable for very large vehicles, my Jaguar S type was probably close to the limit for size. Over all this is a lovely place and I would highly recommend.
