What our customers say about their holidays

Walton Cottage is a delight.
The owners have gone to great lengths to ensure that it really is a home from home. Overall it's exceptionally clean, very well appointed and extremely comfortable whilst retaining the character of a traditional Peak District cottage. We were particularly impressed by the cosy, comfortable lounge, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and excellent shower but the real highlight was the charming garden where we could enjoy our breakfast and our G & T's(not at the same time!) whilst enjoying the terrific views of Winster and beyond. Winster itself is a small and friendly village that has two excellent pubs and a very useful village store. It's very close to Matlock where you'll find a plethora of shops including a large Sainsburys. This was our first trip to the Peak District and we found it really easy to drive to the major attractions and particularly recommend Haddon House, Buxton, Bakewell, Dove Dale and the easy cycle tracks which have been created along disused railway lines. There's so much more to explore and we will most certainly visit again and hope to be blessed again by glorious weather! Very many thanks to to our hosts, R & J, who really have thought of everything!!

We were immediately impressed by the genuine warmth of the owner on arrival.
The attention to detail in both quality / facilities and information provided to us about the cottage exuded the passion and love put into the property itself by the owners. This did not go unnoticed by us! Walton cottage was perfect for us, it was warm and cosy, the log fire was lovely to relax in front of after a day out walking in the local area. There were excellent recommendations provided to us about where to eat and drink, upcoming events and places to visit in Winster and the surrounding area also, which were greatly appreciated. What is provided here goes above and beyond all expectations. We were delighted to find this gem of a cottage in the Peak District and it felt like a home away from home. Many thanks to the owners for thinking about everything provided in our stay (so that we didnât have to!) We would absolutely not hesitate in recommending the cottage to anyone and will definitely book to stay again. We loved it all, from the cosy nights, the hooting of the owls and the stunning views of the village and fields that greeted us every morning. Thank you so much x

The 3rd stay at Toad Cottage.
One of the best in the area which made it an ideal place for family to meet up. Spacious cottage. Very clean. Plenty of towels and toiletries. Comfy beds. Nice little yard for a sunny morning coffee. Cottage next to a busy noisy road but soon get used to the traffic going by. Decent off road parking space to fit two small cars. TV remotes were a bit a muddle for my 80 year old mother to use on a rainy day. One for TV and one for Free view which was very slow to upload. Radiators in the living room could do with bleeding as we had a cold snaps for a couple of damp days as my mother likes to keep warm. There is an electric heater that soon makes it very hot though. Just a couple of things that need seeing to. But overall a super cottage. With a little welcome hamper. Bread, milk and shortbread. Definitely booking again. Michael. Sheila. Marian. Nicola and Cliff the dog.

Walton Cottage is a wonderful property in a lovely village and was the perfect base for our family of four.
The stone cottage kept us nice and cool in the heatwave, but I can imagine it would be very cosy in the winter months. There are stunning views from the garden but they are via steps so not suitable for young children or anyone with mobility issues (actually, I donât think bookings are taken from anyone with small children!) . The owners had thought about everything and provided very clear instructions and information for before and during our stay. The cottage was well-equipped and we appreciated the little touches such as the provision of washing up liquid, washing tablets etc. not to mention the tea, coffee, milk and kitkats for our arrival. Pubs and a community shop very close by were great. There are walks on the doorstep and off-road bike rides 15 minutes away. We wouldnât hesitate to stay there again!

The cottage was amazing!
We had an absolutely wonderful week away and already talking about returning again. It was spotlessly clean and lovely and warm, the split level layout worked perfectly to provide some privacy and the living room was well sized to host everyone for a lovely evening watching a film. The cottage was very well equipped and had things I wouldnât have even thought of (like hot water bottles) and the welcome pack was very much appreciated! Only small thing to note was that the main bed was comfy but not as comfy as the twin beds and I think would benefit from a mattress topper! But it was by no means uncomfortable and we slept well most nights.
