  On arrival at the location no obvious sign of Clover Cottage.

  Contacted owner via an Intercom system attached to farmhouse door. Owner apologised for non appearance said she would be home as soon as possible. Tried to describe where entrance to cottage was but signal kept breaking up and could not understand what she was saying. Spoke to a lady in the adjoining cheese factory who said she had never heard of Clover Cottage. Eventually found another person at cheese factory who directed me to the property. The entrance was off the farmyard but was not obvious that it was like photos on booking site. Entrance via a very unimpressive leanto to the back door. This led into a small kitchen with no window and then into the living room which was minimally furnished. The bathroom was off this room and was the best room in house with large walk-in shower,wash basin and toilet. The two bedrooms were uninspiring with large heavy furniture, one looking out to garden. The photos on the booking site gave the impression of a much more cosy and comfortable property which it was not. The cottage was described on the web site as "a stunning two bed roomed cottage" Not in my opinion. This short break was to give my wife a bit of a ' pick me up' after a recent stroke but because of what we found as described above we felt that we could not stay and we drove home.

  This was a great property in the grounds of the owners house. It was all on one level with a separate large bedroom with bathroom and tea making facilities. The main building had another large bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge/dining room. This made it useful for 2 couples or perhaps those travelling with teenage/older relatives. The welcome was very warm with homemade goodies and newly picked strawberries. It is up quite a steep hill which we were able to walk but not everyone would. Plenty of parking and taxis if needed. Exiting through the back and up some steps was a local pub with standard pub fayre. Lots of places to eat in town but the kitchen was stocked with everything you can imagine. I recommend visiting Chatsworth farm shop for some treats to cook. Owners provided lots of info about the local area and places that delivered food. Personally a bottle of wine and the log burner or an evening on the beautiful patio was just lovely.

  Super little cottage in a great location.

  We had a wonderful stay. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen, A good sized bathroom with a lovely powerful shower. Plus, a super comfy bed. It was also good to be able to park right outside the property. Although, it's compact there is plenty of storage space upstairs. It was also spotlessly clean on arrival. It's situated in a great location to be able to enjoy all the wonderful industrial history (Unesco World Heritage Site which is right on the doorstep. However, if you choose, you can walk in the other direction for fantastic countryside walks with stunning scenery and views. Cromford station is only 15 mins walk away for trains to Derby and Nottingham. Or for simply travelling a few stops along the tracks and then walking back to the cottage along the Cromford Canal. All in all a great stay! We would definitely consider a return visit.

  Booked at last-minute and received quick confirmation and good communications from the owners. The cottage is located in the grounds of the owners property and they are on hand for any problems but don't intrude. Arrived to a welcome pack and even a freshly baked cake by the owner! A lovely touch. Although the cottage itself is quite small, it is very cosy and easily accommodated four adults. Located up a very steep hill from the town , but just take your time if walking up it. However, it's high up location gives lovely views down towards the town and to the hills beyond. I can imagine on a sunny summer's day it would be nice to sit and eat meals out front. Plenty of information leaflets on the local area and some lovely walking , straight from the cottage doors. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here if we ever decide to stay in Matlock again.
