What our customers say about their holidays

Another fabulous stay at The Byre!
We spent the May/June half-term here and enjoyed it so much, came back for the October half-term. Weâre a family of four with a small dog. The house has a great layout for us, entering into a utility-type area great for towelling down a dog and with a sink, American fridge freezer and a washer/dryer. Also space to hang coats and a shoe rack to tidy those millions of family shoes away from the door! Open-plan, cosy living space with the kitchen, dining and seating area combined and a lovely log burner. The cottage is well equipped - even found a measuring jug, a clothes airer and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine for the caffeine-lovers out there! Location is perfect for what we want, away from it all down a long farm track and with beautiful unspoilt views. The fenced garden was great for the dog, as well as walks off-lead from the door. Our kids enjoyed a few milkshakes from the farm shop. Thanks so much for the welcome pack of breakfast food (our first stay was a lovely home-baked cake!). We enjoyed our stay so much, that weâve booked again for the adjoining property!

This was my second time at this property, so clearly my first experience was positive, otherwise I wouldnât have returned.
The property is dog friendly and consists of a number of stables and a coach house converted into holiday accommodation. They are immaculatey clean, comfortable and have everything you need for your stay if youâre catering for yourself, even a dishwasher; but given the great food and welcome you can get at the local pubs such as the Black Bull at Etal, the Bluebell Inn just along the lane and the Collingwood Arms in Cornhill village why bother cooking when on a break? The property is aurrounded by fields and paddocks with sheep and chickens roaming free so you canât but get relaxed when you stay here. When you choose to be more active the Cornhill-on-Tweed area is ideally suited to explore northern Northumberland and the Scottish Borders with plenty of beautiful nature and history to see. Iâm already checking my diary for my third visit. So clearly I wouldnât hesitate recommending the place.

This has the makings of a great holiday home with some small adjustments.
The main problem we had was the shower. Unless run at a dribble it scalds you. Being there with a plumber it was clear itâs an easy fix. Either replace the shower, not that expensive in this instance, or replace the thermostatic cartridge - slightly more expensive. The general plumbing was very noisy when we or neighbours ran water. There is an unusual mix of cooking utensils with only really a tray to use in the oven and a collection of large plastic bowls for the microwave. The saucepans were lovely, though and plenty of cups and other crockery. The bed and settee were really comfy and thereâs an extra heater if needed. Overall a great holiday but the shower really needs to be addressed urgently. We would recommend and definitely stay again if this was sorted. Lovely location and great to see the hens and sheep so close up.

The minute we walked in the door we felt at home as we could easily imagine (dream ) of having a place as gorgeous as The Penthouse. It is immaculate, the love the hosts have for the place is evident in every aspect from the great décor, down to the huge selection of plates cooking utensils and glasses that provide the perfect backdrop for whatever is being served or sipped at the dining table or on the balcony overlooking stunning views of the Marina, River Coquet, or the sea. Amble offers wonderful places from fine dining, café bars, real ale to Italian ice cream parlours, all on the doorstep literally. Walks from the door you never need to get in your car. We have already booked 2 weeks in 2020.

We stayed here previously in July and enjoyed ourselves so much that we booked a week in September as soon as we arrived back home. The cottage was immaculate again, with everything we needed for a relaxing break. We were pleased to note that, following comments after our previous stay, a non-slip mat was placed in the shower and a brand-new mop was provided. We always like to leave a holiday house as we find it on arrival! Our greyhound, Lizzie, enjoyed her holiday too as the cottage is really dog-friendly allowing her to go outside and return again via the conservatory whenever she wanted. Overall, highly recommended as a base for a holiday in a beautiful part of the UK.
