What our customers say about their holidays

  • Marilyn - Verified booking

The cottage was lovely but a number of issues really impacted negatively upon our stay and little was done by way of a compensation gesture other than a sorry.

The property is very isolated, which is fine, BUT we had no phone coverage or WiFi for two of our four days so we could not contact anyone, nor could we watch the advertised Sky Glass TV or use laptops or tablets ; my husband could not do any of the work he needed to do and we had to go out during the day to work rather than fully enjoying our break. As there were no pubs, shops or restaurants within five miles, we were effectively trapped as we could not even phone a taxi to take us out for the evening. We also have elderly parents who we could not check upon which was very worrying. We missed some of the basics as in soap, shampoo or shower gel and there were no teatowels available; a small thing but surprisingly necessary. We missed the usual 'Welcome Hamper' although the lovely maintenance man did bring us a bottle of wine.Hot water was somewhat limited and only a quick shower was really possible. I have a chronic back problem and always book accommodation with a tub; but having a bath was not possible due to limited hot water supply. The cottage has a septic tank and we did experience some issues with flushing the toilet, somewhat embarrassing. We did love the cottage, and I do not wish to be negative but I honestly feel prospective guests need to be aware of potential problems. The setting is gorgeous and the pub we visited, The Miners, was incredibly welcoming but, we were disappointed by the issues we experienced, even more so that we were not offered anything by way of compensation. Sadly, I would not stay again.

First time at St Marks School house and it was amazing!

Nestled just on the edge of Elan Valley, St Marks sits surrounded by hills with views for miles direct from the window. On arrival the property was clean, tidy and felt really homely. The central heating was on and warm but also the log fire was prepared ready for lighting if needed. Essentials like cake, milk, teabags and coffee was on hand in order to make a brew after the long drive down, great little touch I thought. This little house is full of character, from its timber beams to its original slate worktops reclaimed from when the house used to be a school. There is fantastic dog walks right from the doorstep, with a forest less than fifty metres away which felt like you had to yourself due to the lack of people there. Great if you have a reactive dog like I do. The owners was fantastic, with great communication. They even went as far as leaving a guide book with tips and hints about heating, recycling, emergency numbers, where to eat when out etc. Also walks to take, plus if you have a dog then which walks will require your dog to be leashed (or not) in order not to scare livestock. All in all, this place is great for a couple or a single person (with two dogs) like myself wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Would I recommend - Absolutely! Will I be back - Most definitely!!!

We have just returned from a lovely week at the Barn.

We had a thoroughly relaxed, chilled out time which was just what we needed. The welcome from Sue and Dave was exceptional. The hamper we were given on arrival with lots of locally produced and home made goodies was excellent. Sue even made us bread and jam to take home!! They really are a genuinely lovely couple!! Even the dogs, Kiti & Poli and the hens made us feel welcome! The Barn was very clean and comfortable and very dog friendly. Our miniature schnauzer, Mollie was provided with treats, toys, towels and throws for the furniture. The Barn is well equipped and we had everything we needed. The gardens and surrounding area are stunning. Beautiful views and lots of places within a short distance to visit. The local pub, the Hundred House Inn serves great food and is well worth a visit. We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard outside the property with the highly scented Jasmine and we were delighted when the fairy lights came on at dusk giving the area a magical feel. This is a hidden gem and would be equally lovely to visit in winter with the wood burning stove and fire pit. We had a fab time and would not hesitate to recommend.

    Had a very comfortable stay.

The interior is very comfortable, decorated well and very cosy inside without feeling cramped. The outside space is lovely with the view from the hot tub which is stunning. The place was spotlessly clean and well equipped with everything you could need in the kitchen. My only criticism is the quality of the WiFi, we didn't have a problem until the 4th evening when the WiFi connection was lost and did not come back before we left so we had about 48 hours without a connection. Normally this wouldn't bother me but as there is also no mobile signal and no 4G available inside the property, it was was completely cut off. Added to that was the Sky Glass tv (which was amazing) relies on the WiFi to be able to watch anything. I appreciate that when you're away you're not watching tv but in the evenings this is important and more so when you can't contact anyone or get access to online facilities. Apart from that though we really enjoyed it and I would recommend staying here. We would love to come back again in the summertime and get a different experience that comes with that time of year.

We spent a week at this beautiful barn and absolutely loved it.

The owners were so friendly and had literally thought of everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We were provided with a wonderful welcome hamper on arrival, including home baked bread and freshly laid eggs by the Glanoer girls (their own chickens)! I especially liked the fact everything was locally sourced and the milk was supplied in a glass bottle not a plastic carton. I hate plastic milk cartons!! The barn was extremely clean and the bed linen and towels smelt gorgeous. The owners also allowed us to freely use their land to exercise our dogs which was amazing. The dogs absolutely loved it. We were also given a bag of dog treats and access to towels, leads, toys, wipes and even hi-viz dog coats and collars! So thoroughly thought out and greatly appreciated. It was so peaceful with the sound of the stream and the birds….we even saw a woodpecker! It was a great place to retreat to especially when having a busy Manchester life! We will definitely be returning. (If they’ll have us of course) :-) Verity, Mike, Poirot and Vera
