Cockermouth is steeped in history, with lots of interesting places to visit. William Wordsworth was born in a Georgian house just along the road on Main Street. It has been turned into a museum and shows what life was like in the 1770s. The Kirkgate Centre is a bustling arts and culture hub in town, and regularly puts on films, plays and live music. Go for walks along the River Derwent, which runs through Cockermouth. Being on the edge of the Lake District you’ll find many stunning walks nearby. Whinlatter Forest is 7 miles away where you can explore on foot or by bike (you can hire bikes there) or go on a treetop rope course at Go Ape. Keswick is 14 miles away where there are beautiful walks along Derwentwater, as well as a theatre, a cinema, and lots of shops and a range of places to eat out.
