Fair Rigg Old Farm is highly praised for its warmth, comfort, and beautiful gardens, making it a favourite for many. The AGA cooker and well-equipped kitchen are highlights, contributing to the property's homely feel. The secure garden is a hit with dog owners, and the location offers great local walks. While there are some mentions of a fly issue and traffic noise, these are minor compared to the overall positive experience.
The property generally receives high marks for cleanliness, with guests finding it tidy upon arrival. However, there are isolated mentions of a fly problem and unclean kitchen drawers, which slightly impact the score.
The location is appreciated for its central area, good local walks, and beautiful surroundings. Some guests mention traffic noise, but the overall sentiment about the location is positive.
Guests find the property warm, welcoming, and comfortable, with special mentions of comfortable beds and a cosy atmosphere. The presence of an AGA cooker adds to the comfort level, although it can make the house very warm.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, especially the kitchen and garden. However, there are comments about the need for sharper knives, a blocked shower, and limited lounge seating, suggesting room for improvement in maintenance.
The welcome pack including wine and shortbread is frequently mentioned and appreciated, indicating thoughtfulness. However, it's important to note that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be guaranteed for every stay.
The final approach to Fair Rigg Old Farm is down a narrow private lane. Guests arrive at the cottage, as is typical with most farmhouses, through the back porch that opens to the welcoming farmhouse kitchen with open plan dining area. Guests will immediately be struck by the character of the cottage and the detail of the presentation and period features. A welcoming sitting room has comfortable sofas and armchairs arranged in front of the cosy log burning stove and TV. To the side there is a attractive study/reading room. The traditional and characterful stairs lead to the first floor and a choice of three of the four bedrooms the cottage has top offer and these three bedrooms are complemented by a smart shower room and bathroom. A further flight of stairs lead to the top floor and the master bedroom suite with its own superb ensuite bathroom with feature bath.

The garden was also well tended and lovely. We probably would have given it five stars if it had included a barbecue and a downstairs loo.

We enjoyed the welcome pack and that everything was ready to go. An important feature was the large and beautiful garden; practical for small children and dogs but good to just sit out in. We had a lovely week here.
