Guests say

Cherry Garth is a well-loved cottage praised for its excellent location and stunning views, offering a comfortable and spacious stay. Guests appreciate the property's warmth and the convenience of local walks, with many expressing a desire to return.

Guests that stayed at this property said

While many guests found Cherry Garth clean and well-equipped, several reviews mentioned issues with cleanliness, including cobwebs, dirty kitchenware, and unemptied bins. These concerns suggest room for improvement in cleaning standards.

The location is consistently lauded for its tranquility, beautiful views, and proximity to local walks and amenities. The scenic setting in the heart of the Lake District is a highlight for many visitors.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the living areas cosy. However, some minor issues with amenities like showers and gates were noted, slightly detracting from the overall comfort of the stay.

The property is well-equipped for a pleasant stay, but guests have reported maintenance issues such as problems with gates, showers, and kitchen appliances. Prompt responses to these issues are noted, yet preventative checks could be improved.

There is insufficient information regarding gifts or special touches provided by the hosts to accurately assess thoughtfulness. While some guests mentioned a welcome pack, it is not clear if this is a standard offering or if it meets expectations.

About this property

Is there a better location for a Lakeland cottage? We doubt it. Cherry Garth is set in a little piece of heaven. At the end of a private lane, surrounded by panoramic views of the mountains and fells and with Brotherswater below, this property is completely and utterly glorious. Hartsop Dodd, High Hartsop, Hart Crag, Fairfield and St. Sunday Cragg, the landscape is as old as time and yours to enjoy from first light to sunset.

Hartsop, the setting for Cherry Garth, is an unspoilt hamlet in the Ullswater valley. 17th century buildings and houses make up what is now a small farming community. There are traces of former industries such as milling, mining and spinning, which explains why many of the properties are Grade 2 listed and the village is protected by the National Trust.

The cottage itself has been stunningly updated. The interior has been decorated in neutral tones, the furniture is modern and stylish, with stone and wooden floors in the living areas, and wall to wall carpets in the bedrooms. Entry to the property is through the boot/drying room, leading to the welcoming sitting room with open fire, comfortable seating and magnificent view. The large kitchen/dining room, dressed with granite and slate, is a wonderful space for family meals, planning walks and chatting over coffee. More relaxed seating, an additional TV/DVD and radio docking station gives yet another option when deciding where to relax. The utility room is separated from the kitchen and leads into the garden.

The first of the king size bedrooms is on the ground floor, complete with a wet room with monsoon shower. Upstairs are two further rooms with king size beds, sharing a house bathroom with slipper bath.

Outside the property is plenty of parking as well as terrace and garden, lots of choice when it comes to deciding which view to admire. Cherry Garth is simply stunning, and with such great views to enjoy, why even bother to leave the grounds?

Ullswater is generally considered to encompass three major villages. This includes Glenridding at the south and Pooley Bridge at the north. The second largest lake, at approximately 7.5 miles wide, Ullswater is often regarded as the most beautiful lake in the district. There is dramatic mountain scenery to the south, as well as the gentle hills of the north. This region is popular among walkers, climbers and cyclists of all levels of ability. There are various water sports for all abilities too and lots of family activities. Along with historical sites of interest, Ullswater has a strong nautical history, having been a popular sailing destination for centuries. There are marinas placed all around the lake. Plus a wide range of superb eateries and shops, sure to delight!

Also, on the west side of the lake is the beautiful Aira Force Waterfall. It is one of the National Park’s most popular natural tourist attractions. Glenridding is a particularly popular tourist attraction with mountain walkers. They visit the village to scale England’s third highest peak, Helvellyn.

I would go again because of the view alone. It’s a sweet cottage, it has everything you need. The beds are very comfy. One thing to note if you have kids is all the beds are doubles and for us this resulted in arguments but if you are 3 couples going on holiday together this cottage would be perfect.

Just a couple of things... We couldn't get the main oven to work. The grill/ small top oven worked fine, the main oven may need looking at. The toilet in the upstairs bathroom needs looking at - the cistern doesn't stop filling unless you lift the lid and manually push down the 'plug'. Other than that everything was great. We hope to be back soon x

The location for walking is fabulous. So many walks straight from the door and if you choose to stay in, the views are incredible from the lounge and kitchen windows. The three gates that need to be opened to reach the property have been fixed so that they open and close very easily. The kitchen is a lovely space with a good range of utensils etc for cooking. What would help is for there to be a basic range of herbs, spices and oils along with supplies of washing up liquid, wash powder and shower gel. Another cottage we stay at provides all of these and encourages visitors to top up as they use them. This works well and makes such a difference. But we will return and will remember to come armed with these next time.
