The Blithe Hare is a quaint cottage in Windermere, appreciated for its good central heating, comfortable beds, and modern bathroom. Its location is convenient for exploring the Lake District, and guests have enjoyed the property's charm and the warmth of the local community.
Reviews indicate a mix of experiences regarding cleanliness. Some guests found the cottage very clean, while others noted issues with kitchen grease, a smell from the drains, and dusty bedrooms. The changeover team has been criticised for not being thorough.
The cottage's location is generally praised for being a great base to explore the Lake District, with good access to local attractions and public transport. However, some guests found the parking situation and access to the property challenging.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, particularly praising the upstairs area. However, the living room seating is noted as insufficient for three adults, and the main bed's firmness has received mixed feedback.
Facilities are well-received in terms of heating and kitchen appliances, but there are several complaints about maintenance issues such as a broken blind, a problematic kitchen door, and electrical problems. The lack of space for food storage and excessive crockery are also noted.
While some guests mentioned the lack of a welcome pack and the absence of starter kindling for the fire, there is not enough information to assess the overall thoughtfulness of the host in terms of providing gifts or extra touches that enhance the guest experience.

In a lovely location bus stop within 2 minute walk, 2 miles walk from bowness & 3.5mile from Ambleside & the fire absolutely makes this cottage. - However, we had no starter pack for the fire. - Every single cupboard in the kitchen was full leaving no where to put your food & 10+ plates & mugs & glasses for a cottage for 2 people. - The blind in the living room is broken and doesnât go up or down. - The Kitchen was grubby we wiped the sided on our arrival and the cloth was brown. Pots and pans was greasy we had to wash everything before using it. - the amount of dust in the bedrooms is shocking. - sofa uncomfortable - Victorian portraits everywhere, not to our taste personally think it would look lovely if they wasnât there. - we booked our break for Christmas 21st - 26th December and would have expected some sort of Decorations but we had to go buy our own tree/ decs With a bit of love and a deep clean this cottage would be absolutely beautiful but after the cleanliness & lack of love would put us off returning.

There was a few small things. I was informed there would be a starter pack for the fire, there wasnât. After all the many reviews about no bowls in the kitchen, I did think the owner might have rectified the issue, no, still no bowls. Made eating breakfast interesting !! Cupboards are overflowing with unnecessary items, so many pots and pans. Overall the cottage could do with a deep clean and the sofa is very tired. The bed was extremely comfortable and wifi good. No information book provided either. Usually thereâs a few suggestions of what to do in the area.

The bedroom and bathroom are very well furnished and comfortable. The downstairs is less so - the settee in the living room is saggy and past its best, the kitchen table is too big for the room, and the bottom oven of the cooker was filthy when we arrived. The gothic Victorian decor is also an interesting choice. However the cottage is warm and cosy, and we would certainly consider staying again if returning to the area.
