The seaside towns of Lytham and St Annes-on-Sea nestle along a picturesque stretch of coastline lined with pretty parks. For many centuries, the economy of this lovely area was dependent entirely on fishing until the beginning the Industrial Revolution, which resulted in the wealthy creating an affluent area, lasting until the present day. A short stroll from the Lytham seafront brings you to leafy Clifton Street, where you’ll find charming boutiques, restaurants and independent shops. Lytham Green, a strip of grass running between the shore and the main coastal road, is a notable landmark, overlooking the River Ribble towards the Welsh Mountains, and home to the restored Windmill and Old Lytham Lifeboat House museum. Those interested in craft ales can take a tour of the Lytham Brewery, whilst walkers and twitchers will adore the rolling sandy dunes of St Annes-on-Sea and the Ribble Estuary providing a safe haven for more than 250,000 migrating birds that return each winter. The area is internationally renowned for golf with four courses to choose from, the most notable being the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, one of the host courses for the Open Championship. Traditional seaside pastimes can be enjoyed at St Annes-on-Sea with a pretty pier and charming little beach huts in an array of pastels offering visitors a unique, exciting addition for a day beside the sea. A short walk from the pier brings you to St Annes Square and Wood Street, where you'll find charming coffee shops, tea rooms, restaurants and independent shops. Lovely long strolls, sunny afternoons on the sand or fun-filled frolics in nearby Blackpool, Lytham St Annes is a charming coastal destination with plenty to offer. The lock on the bedroom side is a bit stiff and can be a bit annoying. It would be better to have two keys both opening both sides so each person can have a key to lock and unlock each side.

It was clean, warm and different. The supply of tea, coffee, milk & biscuits was very welcome. It was really good that there was a TV in the bedroom and that we could make hot drinks in there too. The kitchen hot tap had to be run very slowly though, to get just warm water. It didn't get hot; so it would be better to have a small washing up bowl in the sink, as the metal sink cooled the lukewarm water very quickly. The back door wouldn't unlock either. We soon got used to going from one gatehouse to the other but we had to be careful crossing the drive. There is a lot of traffic going in & out of the grounds during the day and most of it goes too fast through the gates. We were surprised there were no 'Slow' signs outside or some means of warning drivers to take care, as people might be crossing the drive. Lytham Hall is beautiful and its history very interesting. It was great having complimentary tickets to look round it.

The Gate houses are quirky as expected and are situated either side of the drive up to Lytham Hall. There are signs asking vehicles to be aware of pedestrians crossing and we didnât have any problems with this at all. The gatehouses were clean , tidy and well presented, although just a tiny bit smaller than we had expected. This was not a problem however. We enjoyed our complimentary tickets giving entry to the Hall itself as we hadnât been inside previously and it was a real treat. We cannot praise the volunteers highly enough; they were very knowledgeable , helpful, and friendly and it was a highlight of our stay. We also enjoyed the surrounding areas of Lytham and St Anneâs which are always a joy to visit. We would love to give a five star rating to our review but there was one major drawback to our stay and that was the bed. The mattress was far too soft and lumpy and Iâm sorry to report that we both had sleepless nights for the extent of our three day stay. We know that comfort is a very individual thing but I do feel that the mattress does require replacing with one of a more superior quality. It is such a shame because everything else was so nice, but this is the one thing that would prevent us returning for another stay. Iâm hoping that this positive feed back will lead to the mattress being replaced and then we can consider returning. Thank you for all the other things you provided that were of a good standard.
