The Old Farm House in Matlock is highly praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and prime location. Guests appreciate the warm hospitality of the hosts and the well-equipped facilities. The property's proximity to local attractions and peaceful setting make it an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. While there is a single mention of maintenance issues, the overwhelming majority of reviews are positive, reflecting a delightful stay.
Guests consistently note the cottage's cleanliness, describing it as spotless and well-maintained. One review mentioned mould in the shower, but this seems to be an isolated incident.
The property's location is frequently highlighted as excellent, with its proximity to local sites, eateries, and attractions in the Peak District, making it a perfect spot for exploration.
Many guests found the cottage to be cosy and comfortable, with high-quality appliances and bedding. There was a minor comment about a bed being on the hard side, but overall, comfort levels were rated highly.
The facilities are generally well-regarded, with the property being well-equipped for guests' needs. However, there were some concerns about maintenance, particularly in the bathrooms, which affects the score.
While guests have expressed gratitude for the hospitality and helpfulness of the hosts, there are no specific mentions of gifts or special thoughtful touches that could be quantified, hence the score is set to null.
This lovely stone-built cottage is an annexe to the owners? home, on the outskirts of the village of Rowsley, less than 3 miles from Bakewell and Matlock. As there?s an abundance of activities to suit all ages in the area, this cottage is equally ideal for a couple or a small family. You enter the cottage into a modern kitchen with Belfast sink and granite work surfaces, then onto a spacious sitting room with dining area which fills with natural light and looks out to the beautiful extensive gardens. A couple of steps down from the hall is the tasteful bathroom with elegant fixtures befitting this period property, and upstairs is a spacious and light king-size en-suite bedroom, and a twin. Outside, there?s a sheltered and private courtyard and you are free to stroll the beautiful extensive gardens which are teeming with birdlife and the occasional visiting sheep from the neighbouring farm. Cyclists are well catered for as the cottage sits at the base of Rowsley Bar, which is listed in the top 100 climbs in Britain. The Peak Shopping Village designer outlet is just a few hundred yards away, and some of the best gastro pubs and fine dining restaurants in the region are within walking distance. The majestic Chatsworth House is less than 3 miles away, and head a few miles in one direction to amble around the pretty market town of Bakewell or a few in the opposite direction to enjoy a ride in a cable car, a steam train or a horse and carriage in Matlock and Matlock Bath. Other nearby local attractions include the Crich Tramway Museum, Carsington Water which is a lovely spot for a picnic, Dovedale and the Tissington Trail, a 13 mile route starting in Ashbourne. Whenever you go, there is lots to see and do making this a perfect cottage base.
Rowsley is a pretty village situated close to both Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall.
Rowsley has many attractions, including Caldwell's Mill which houses the last water-powered roller flour mill and a range of craft workshops, shops and a restaurant, Peak Rail, which is a rail enthusiasts dream with rides along the valley, and the Peak Village which has many outlet shops with bargains galore together with feature attractions, a fitness centre and an old fashioned sweet shop and ice cream parlour.
