Nine Ladies is a charming cottage in Matlock, appreciated for its cleanliness, decor, and location with easy access to local pubs and walks. Guests enjoyed the characterful property and found it cosy and comfortable, though some noted the need for maintenance and better quality bedding. The upside-down layout with bedrooms downstairs was a unique feature. The property's proximity to Bakewell and Buxton adds to its appeal.
The cottage was generally found to be very clean, with positive remarks about its tidiness. However, there were isolated complaints about dampness and mould, which slightly affected the score.
The location is highly praised for being convenient, with easy access to local amenities, pubs, and scenic walks. The proximity to nearby towns like Bakewell and Buxton is also appreciated, although occasional parking challenges were mentioned.
The property is considered cosy and comfortable overall, with a spacious lounge and good space for children. Some guests, however, found the beds and seating to be less supportive and the bedrooms a bit cramped for storage.
Facilities are generally good, with a well-decorated interior and modern bathrooms. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as window problems, a non-working shower, and a lack of kitchen storage, which impacts the score.
While guests appreciated complimentary drinks and crisps, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtful touches such as gifts to accurately score this category. It should be noted that such amenities are subject to change and not guaranteed.

Dirty plates, cups and bowls. Damp in the bedrooms. Had to cut holiday short by 3 days as both myself and my wife suffer respiratory problems. Parking on the public street is a lottery. We were bitten by what we think are bed bugs.

Leaflets in the property were from 2019 and information about the property was scarce. The WiFi was good and the sitting area was comfortable. However, the bathroom did not have a working fan and there was mould on the walls. This was in part due to the shower door leaking when used. The windows contained mould too. The bedrooms all had uncomfortable beds and the smallest room lacked space for clothing and luggage. We couldnât access the patio which seemed very small anyway. Provision of and quality of dishes, cutlery and glassware was poor considering what we paid, in comparison with other Sykes properties with a similar price.

Good location in village, nice pubs and walks, not far from Bakewell and Matlock. I was a bit confused by two chapels at first, when locating property in pouring rain. When we arrived my son found a bedroom window in smaller twin bedroom, had window not properly shut and water was running down window and wall. We cleaned this up but had to push hard to get window properly shut. Windows in several rooms looked like they needed maintaining, but no cold draughts. Cottage very clean and nicely decorated. Would stay again.
