Guests say

Rutland Lodge in Torquay is generally praised for its great location and accommodating host, Richard. The property is described as lovely and ideal for large groups, including families, with a hot tub that is popular among guests. However, there are some concerns regarding maintenance issues, particularly with heating, hot water, and the games room, which affected the overall experience.

There is insufficient information in the reviews to accurately assess the cleanliness of the property.

The lodge is well-positioned in Torquay and convenient for surrounding attractions, making the location highly appreciated by guests.

While guests find the property beautiful and spacious, comfort is compromised by recurring issues with heating and hot water.

The property boasts a hot tub and games room, but the enjoyment of these facilities is marred by maintenance problems such as a broken handrail and a wet games room floor.

The reviews do not mention any specific gifts or special touches that would indicate the level of thoughtfulness, so it cannot be scored.

About this property

A beautifully restored Victorian home set in the bustling village of Wellswood and perfectly located for exploring the vibrant coastal town of Torquay. This spacious retreat is the ideal space for a long-overdue reunion with friends or multigenerational family gatherings with a couple of four-pawed members in tow. Soak up the cultural and creative buzz of Cockington (3.5 miles) and saunter through the leafy formal gardens, before sinking in for a restorative soak in your Hydropool therapy spa, available from Easter until 1st October.

This property sympathetically blends traditional elegance with contemporary creature comforts. Picture intricate cornice detailing, airy neutral tones, and social spaces aplenty. Shrug off your outer layers at the entrance then unwind in the bright lounge with an impressive floor-to-ceiling bay window. In cooler months, warm chilly toes and paws in the heat of the crackling wood burner. Pour a tipple and potter in the bright farmhouse-style kitchen with wooden worktops or you can congregate in the dining space for pre-dinner drinks before venturing into the striking light-dappled conservatory for a celebratory feast. Feeling competitive? Challenge your teammates in the games room or scope out the pool table. When night falls, choose from five beautifully presented rooms with configurations to suit the whole family. Throw open the patio doors to discover the jewel of the property. Perch on the rattan furniture with a morning coffee, heat up the wood-fired pizza oven or relax with an evening dip in the hot tub.

Adventure-seekers, relaxers, and food lovers alike will delight in a visit to Torquay. Whether you are indulging in an al fresco cream tea at a waterfront cafe on the Torquay marina (1 mile), sauntering beneath floral archways and fragrant blooms in Tessier Gardens (1.5 miles), or scrambling down to the sandy crescent of sand at Babbacombe Beach (1.5 miles), there is plenty to keep the group entertained.

All I can say is that someone needs to take up to date photos of Rutland cottage so that guests know exactly what is there. When I booked this property for 5 adults and 3 children I did so by looking at the photos provided. This was not the case concerning the hot tub as it actually turned out to be half the size that was suggested and furthermore the children could not use the downstairs games room as the handrail was broken and the floor was sodden with electric cables on the floor. Richard tried to mop the water up and empty the dehumidifier but even that wasn’t sufficient as the floor was completely wet through all week. Not what we paid for !!!!!!!! We all took photographs on our mobiles as proof if it is necessary. Needless to say this was a very expensive holiday in the first place but trying to keep children happy when they were promised a games room and were not able to proved extra costly for us. I really hope we get compensated for the distress this has caused. Richard himself was nice enough but booking with the pictures provided is not at all what we got !!!!!!!!!!!!!We are very unhappy and feel conned !!!!!
