The Lodge in Whitby is a well-loved cottage praised for its superb location, cosy atmosphere, and comfortable furnishings. Guests have enjoyed the local walks, the proximity to attractions, and the dog-friendly environment. The property has been described as a great base for exploring the surrounding areas, with a welcoming local pub nearby.
Most guests found The Lodge clean and well-kept, though there were some concerns about cleanliness in the kitchen and living areas, with reports of food stains and dog hairs. These issues seem to be occasional rather than systemic.
The location is highly praised for its quiet setting, accessibility to local attractions, and convenience for walkers and dog owners. The nearby pub and the cinder track are frequently mentioned as positive aspects.
Guests have commented on the comfortable beds and the cosy nature of the cottage, making it a relaxing place to stay. However, some guests found the mattresses too firm, and there were comments about inadequate heating.
The Lodge is generally well-equipped, with a good range of amenities that guests have found useful. There were some minor maintenance issues mentioned, such as problems with the heating and a bathroom window, but these do not seem to detract significantly from the overall experience.
While the reviews reflect a positive experience, there is no specific mention of gifts or extra thoughtful touches provided by the hosts. Therefore, it is not possible to score this category.

The beds were lovely and comfortable. The neighbours were absolutely fantastic. Cottage was extremely toastie, definitely not a cold house. The heating is idiot proof, the control was simple to use. However, the cottage is being let down by the cleaning company. It was not the best. There was food left in the oven which had not been cleaned. Same as the fridge. The biggest issue with us taking our family dogs on holiday with us was the slugs, which every night were all over the living room. We removed 8, but every morning when we got up there were slug trails all over the rug. This is a concern as slugs can carry Lungworm in their 'slime', which can be fatal to dogs. They appear to be coming out from under the skirting boards. By all means you can contact us about it.

Pub just down the road and no noisy traffic despite being on the road side. TV has Netflix and prime if you have an account. TV did seem a bit slow to respond but that may be down to the remote (I did find spare batteries in the kitchen on my last day as I was leaving). Loved the bath/shower. Could do with a little shelf to sit your shampoo and stuff on though. Water pressure was awesome. Main bedroom has a walk in dressing room. Second bedroom has minimum storage between the best view through the bay window. Robin hoods bay/Whitby/Runswick bay Sandsend and Staithes all a short drive away.

The kettle was rusty so we bought a new one. I feel as though we were let down
