Tan Y Coed is a historic cottage with breathtaking views of the Menai Strait and a homely atmosphere. Guests appreciate the spacious accommodation, well-equipped kitchen, and the variety of activities available, including a billiards table and a dressing-up box. The property's charm and character, alongside its stunning location, make it a favourite for family gatherings and special occasions.
The property generally meets cleanliness expectations, with some guests noting the presence of cobwebs and a slight odour of damp in places due to the property's age and location. However, the important areas are considered well-maintained.
The location is highly praised for its stunning views and proximity to local attractions, beaches, and amenities. The Menai Strait and the views towards Snowdonia are particularly appreciated, making it an enchanting place to stay.
Guests find the beds comfortable and the property warm and cosy, with ample space for relaxation and family activities. Some furniture is noted as dated, but the overall comfort level is high.
The facilities, including the kitchen and entertainment options, are well-received. However, some guests mention that the property and its outdoor furniture could benefit from modernisation and maintenance.
While guests express gratitude for the prompt responses from the host and the well-stocked kitchen, there is no specific mention of gifts, so it is not possible to assess the level of thoughtfulness in terms of gifts provided.
Words cannot describe how amazing this holiday house is! Standing above the Menai Strait, on Anglesey, half way between Menai Bridge and Beaumaris, it has stunning views with the dramatic backdrop of Snowdonia and its ever changing scenery. At night time the twinkling lights of boats sitting on their moorings, floodlit Penrhyn castle and the moonlight on the mountains and sea is magical.
The large welcoming hall and splendid staircase make a fitting entrance to this magnificent house. The drawing room is just waiting to be filled with a gathering of family and friends. Throw open the French windows and enjoy a drink on the terrace before dinner. The views are stunning.
Or relax in front of the log burning stove in the winter months. Comfy chairs and sofas, a card table and a special scrabble table completes the picture.
The billiard room doubles as a dining room. If you put the top on the billiard table and gather the chairs together you have a formal dining room.
The sitting room is ideal for children. It has a TV with DVD, toy cupboard, crayoning table and plenty of books. French windows open on to the terrace.
The gorgeous kitchen has a large farmhouse table and chairs to seat everyone. It is well equipped for cooking for large numbers with a Rangemaster cooker with two ovens and a six ring gas hob with griddle, magimix, hand blender, electric whisk, toasted sandwich maker and plenty of sensible sized saucepans and serving dishes.
There is a pantry with slate tops housing a fridge / freezer and microwave.
The utility room has a washing machine, tumble drier, drinks fridge and door to the garden.
There are two downstairs cloakrooms. One with a loo and the other with a loo, wash hand basin and shower together with a collection of good life jackets - perfect for days out crabbing. There is also a dressing up chest and a collection of children's toys.
Upstairs there are six bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master bedroom is just fabulous. It is an enormous bedroom with a super king bed and amazing views, en-suite bathroom with loo, wash hand basin and bath with hand-held shower. Three further bedrooms all have wash basins. One has twin beds and two have double beds. There are two other rooms. One with a double bed and one family room with three single beds.
There are two bathrooms; one with bath and shower, the other a walk-in power shower and underfloor heating.
Outside the terrace runs the length of the house with garden furniture, table tennis and a barbecue. There are steps down to the large landing stage and waters edge at high tide. We advise that children should not go unaccompanied or without lifejackets.
Please note there is a flat above Tan y Coed, which is permanently occupied. They have their own entrance and have no access to the garden or beach.

We had all the facilities and comfort we needed and when we were in the house spent most of the time in the kitchen or the snooker room.

The views are spectacular. The bathrooms and kitchen have been modernised and parts of the rest of the property would benefit from this. There is a smell of mustiness in the two main seating areas which is a real shame. These areas were also dusty due to old furniture. The sofas in the sitting room need replacing, as does one of the beds in the twin bedroom. The carpets also need replacing. The property has so much potential and it is a shame that there has not be investment to maintain it to its potential. That said, its location is spectacular and we enjoyed sitting outside and admiring the views over the Menai Straights. The lack of upkeep is reflected in the rental rate for the property but it is a shame that such a grand house is not at its best.

The property was accurately described in all details. It is an old property which is "well used" and perhaps could do with "a lick of paint". However, it suited our group fine. Externally there are signs of neglect specifically in the outside seating area and the pathways and steps down to the beach. Finding the property from the road from Menai Bridge was difficult, and both our parties needed several "passes"| Mention of the traffic cone on the wall would be helpful ( that is if it is a permanent fixture|). Driving away from Tan Y Coed on to the road is a tricky manouvre, needing great care. In all,our holiday at Tan Y Coed was came up to expectations, and the location and views from the house were wonderful.
