When it’s time to relax and unwind, you can head into the conservatory to catch up on the day’s events at the breakfast bar whilst you gaze out upon your brilliant countryside setting; challenge someone to a game of pool in the games room, which also has a Smart TV; or kick back on the corner sofa in the sitting room to enjoy a film or two on the Smart TV whilst you’re kept warm and toasty by a woodburning stove set within a historic, inglenook fireplace. As day rolls into night, refresh with a soak in the bath or a rejuvenating shower before you hunker down for a well-earned rest in one of the home’s four bedrooms, two of which are accompanied by their very own en-suites. Awake with a coffee that you can savour outside in the enclosed garden before you set out to explore your local surroundings.(Bryn) Penardd, as it was known in the Middle Ages, has a long and proud history. The house is referred to in poems by the renowned Welsh poet Lewis Glyn Cothi from Carmarthenshire, who was born around 1420 in the remote village of Rhydcymerau. He composed his poems between 1447 and 1489. One of his last poems is addressed to Henry Tudor (the Father of Henry VIII) after he was crowned king Henry VII. In another poem addressed to Bedo Chwith we learn that Lewis Glyn Cothi received a warm welcome at Penarth and was given three silver coins with an inscription of a plough on them. The house is therefore at least 800 years old! Jump in the car and head west into nearby Builth Wells, where you can load up on homely essentials at one of the many convenience stores in town, before you treat the whole group to a hearty pub lunch at The White Horse or The Barley Mow Public House. The local Pub in Hundred House village is now open which is 1.5 mile from the accommodation. The property is a prime position for access to the Royal Welsh Showground with its many events hosted throughout the year. Penarth Castle Mound, dating back to the medieval period, is a short walk away and is well worth a visit, whilst the property also has open access to common land and open hillside, ideal for an afternoon stroll or a picnic. When you’re ready, set off to discover the nearby landmarks of the Llywelyn Monument, the National Trust nature reserve of Abergwesyn Common, and the scenic point of Water Break-Its-Neck before you head south into the breath-taking setting of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. This property is perfect for exploring Mid Wales and is 30 minutes drive from the Elan Valley dams and half an hour drive from Hay on Wye, which is world famous for its second-hand and antiquarian bookshops. All of this and more is yours to enjoy when you book Penarth.

The market town of Builth Wells (Welsh spelling: Llanfair-ym-Muallt) is located in beautiful, unspoilt countryside and makes an interesting base for a Mid-Wales break. Home to interesting craft stores and many collectors’ fairs, this is also the ideal location for walking, pony trekking and mountain biking. The town offers a challenging 18 hole golf course, a sports centre, and the Wyeside Arts Centre, which includes a cinema as well as many live shows. Across the River Wye lies the Royal Welsh Showground, home to the famous Royal Welsh Show, which brings an explosion of colour to the town every July, along with many other events taking place throughout the year. With the spa town of Llandrindod Wells just 8 miles away, and the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park and spectacular Black Mountains within easy reach, this wonderful location is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts or those just wishing to relax amidst wonderful scenery. Builth Wells is an excellent base offering a gateway into Wales.
