Guests say

Arthur's Cottage receives high praise for its cleanliness, comfort, and location, with many guests planning to return. The property boasts well-maintained facilities and thoughtful touches, such as a Welsh fruit cake and dog treats on arrival. Its proximity to walking trails and scenic views adds to the charm, although some minor issues like lounge chairs and oven cleanliness were noted.

Guests consistently commend the cottage for its cleanliness, describing it as immaculate and spotless. One minor comment about the oven needing a clean prevents a perfect score.

The location is celebrated for its quietness, access to local walks, and proximity to both the coast and Snowdonia National Park. The occasional mention of a closed pub does not significantly detract from the overall positive feedback.

Reviewers frequently mention the comfort of the cottage, highlighting the cosy atmosphere, comfortable beds, and furniture. There is a single remark about uncomfortable lounge chairs, but this is an isolated view.

Facilities are well-regarded, with mentions of a well-equipped kitchen, good Wi-Fi, and secure gardens. The need for a stair gate for pets and a comment on the oven's cleanliness slightly affect the score.

The thoughtfulness of the hosts is appreciated, with mentions of welcome treats such as Welsh fruit cake and dog treats. However, it is politely noted that such gifts, while delightful, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Arthur’s Cottage holds a lot of history and personality, named after one of the previous owners who had a positive presence in the village of Abergynolwyn for his charisma and character much like ‘Doc’ from Back to the Future, this cottage is a real hit with the locals who will be happy to tell tales of the much-loved man. A beautiful stone-built, semi-detached property, it’s a wonderful place for small families or friends to unwind in the idyllic settings of Wales. Walk down the stone path of the front garden, a precious space directly opposite rolling hills, be sure to stop here with your morning coffee the next day to take in the breath-taking scenes. As soon as you enter the property you will step into the lounge, a plush and simplistic area, offering you a marvellous woodburning stove against exposed stone and slate, it intertwines modern and traditional interior to give the cottage even more character than it already holds through its previous history. There is a twin bedroom on the ground floor, with two single beds, it’s ideal for kids or even friends to get a restful sleep without the hassle of top and tale. Head down the corridor to the shower room, perfect after a rainy walk with the dogs where you can hang your coat on the heated towel rail outside the room to avoid any mucky pawprints. Climbing up the tasteful tartan staircase, you will find a glorious master bedroom in the style of a mezzanine, with a daring but delightful slate wall above the bed, it’s a great room for couples, with views overlooking stunning scenery and a small seating area next to the window for you to enjoy a morning snack, it’s a lovely room to help you unwind before the adventure really begins. If you are looking for places to eat directly opposite the cottage you will find Y Caffi which serves breakfast, main meals and a selection of cakes plus hot and cold beverages. One small point having to vacate on our last day at 10am was perfectly understandable. But not being able to gain entry until 5pm on our day of arrival is far too late. It means you lose a total day from your holiday. A more realistic arrival time would be between 2pm and 3pm. This would still allow a minimum cleaning time of 4 to 5 hours.

It has everything we needed, including a Nespresso coffee machine which was a real bonus! The furniture including the bedrooms is all very comfortable and the decor, particularly the spectacular slate wall in the double bedroom all create an excellent ambience to the cottage. We ate, including breakfast, outside whenever the weather permitted taking in the lovely views all around. The gardens are excellent for sitting in and enjoying the good weather and also totally contained for our two dogs to run around in. The Railway Inn, over the road, offers an excellent choice of local beers as well as the more traditional plus superb home cooked food at lunch and in the evening. There are lots of places to visit within a short drive. A ride on the Talyllyn Railway is a must! You can hear the train and catch glimpses of it through the trees from the back garden. Whilst there we had a visit from the original Arthur’s brother who was back in the area for a visit. It was good having a chat with him about the house and village. We would highly recommend it and hope to return next year.
