What our customers say about their holidays

  • Stella - Verified booking

The location of the Chapel was ideal to explore.

Lovely coastal drives and beaches. Only 35mins to Caernarfon and quicker into mountains. First impressions on arrival were not good, especially on seeing all the stuff crammed into the yard, looked very messy. Was this part of the chapel? Do the owners live next door? The appearance of their property lets the Chapel down. It would have been nice to have been informed that the back part of the property was owned/tenanted out to someone.. To then find out that the area above the laundry room and downstairs bedroom were occupied by next door was another disappointment. The welcome guide advised that when sitting on the bench outside you have to be respectful/quiet/mindful of this. So we felt we couldn’t on the nice days sit outside so as not to upset the neighbours. Also if I’m honest looking at the messy yard was a put off. On your holiday you want to relax and enjoy yourself but we felt rather constricted. I feel that you should make people aware of this, so they have the full facts about the property they are booking. Maybe make an area at the front away from the neighbours for outside dining. The facilities of the Chapel were amazing and top notch. Loved that there were the games and DVD’s. Kitchen was well equipped with pans, dishes and baking trays ( which is a must when self catering). The pool table and football table were a great addition. A let down was having only one TV. TV’s in bedrooms in this building would have solved the sound problem or even a rethink to the layout. Where the TV is at the moment and because of it being a chapel there needs to more soft furnishings (curtains, blinds) to soak up the acoustics. Or move the TV down to eye level along with the speakers so the sound is hitting you at the right level rather than bouncing from wall to wall. Or even move the dinning table, pool table & football table into the Lounge area and the lounge area where they are under the lower ceiling. This may elevate some of the sound problems. Of course we didn’t spend all our time watching TV but when family members did it was difficult to hear because of the high ceiling and position of the TV. Cleanliness in general was good but there were several kitchen items that hadn’t been cleaned. We presume these were cleaned by the previous guests. So maybe spend time checking all in order before next guests arrive. Plus the bathtub wasn’t cleaned. The wardrobe in the twin room it was full with cot-bed, Christmas tree and hoover. So we couldn’t hang clothes. Yes we could have moved but this would have been downstairs and we didn’t want to be looking at all of that for the week. Should it have been in there?? Maybe find somewhere else to put these. The worse thing was the horrendous smell we had all week in this bedroom. Which in the end made me and my daughter sick. This was reported and dealt with quickly but unfortunately needed more in-depth inspection. The owner was understanding and a resolution was agreed. However it’s Sykes who have let the owner down as I’m still waiting a refund for this to be completely resolved. I’ve call 5 times to get this sorted. Promised payment but not had it yet. The Welcome Guide, laminates and labelling around the chapel were fantastic. Nicely presented and easy to understand - in fact the best we have seen in all the 15 years we have been staying in houses around the UK. The Chapel was also well equipped in respects of cleaning products, batteries, bulbs, kitchen roll, bin bags, tea, coffee etc all the things you may need. The Chapel was lovely but issues with the sound and the smell, which seem to be a common things really need to be addressed. Also the fact you are joined could be simply be worded on the description so people are aware. It’s more off putting when you don’t know. Please take this in the manner this is intended that of constructive criticism. If these issues are addressed this place would be fantastic for a family holiday in Wales.

Our stay at 191 Snowdonia View will go as the worst of my holiday accommodation and won't recommend it.

    1. The summary online was not exactly the same as it actually is. Specifically, the summary stated that there was WIFI but this was completely false as there was none. I also confirmed the information with the Sykes staff that made the booking. 2. Responsiveness was extremely terrible. When we checked in and discovered that the WIFI was not there, I called to complain. The lady who picked up the phone directed me to a man who was an out-of-hour staff. He told me he didn't know the property and that I should search around the caravan for the WIFI. I told him I had already done that and asked if he could direct me to someone who knew about the property. He hung up the phone on me. I called the following day to make the same complaint and the lady that answered asked me to go to the reception at the accommodation and that they would sort it out. I was told at the reception that 191 Snowdonia View is managed by a private firm so they have no business with it. I again called, and this time the man who answered told me he would report the issue to the local team to sort it out. This was never done. There were other issues with the caravan like the water heater not working. We had to buy a bucket and boil water with the kettle to bath especially the kids. I tried to get them on the phone for several days but nobody picked up my calls or responded to my emails. It was not until when we were about to leave that someone contacted me. 3. The fridge was met dirty when we checked in. 4. I think basic facilities like a mop stick should be available as well as a description of where to empty bins. We had to walk around to look for one. We are certainly not going to book that caravan again and won't recommend it to anyone.

Lovely house with a great location and very comfortable.

Unfortunately the cleanliness and maintenance of the property has affected my feedback. I have stayed in Sykes properties several times and always found them to be of the highest quality. However, on this occasion this is not the case. Firstly the view from the balcony did not match the photographs. A flag has been cleverly placed on the railing of the balcony when the photo for your website was taken to hide the view - which is in fact a derelict building that is an eyesore! Then there is the cleanliness of the property as follows that I have taken photos of if the company wishes to see them. - lots of dirt and dust on the bedroom plugs, litter under the bed, dust and dirt on the mattress for the travel cot that is on top of the wardrobe, stains down the bathroom door, dust and sand underneath the living room couch, dirt on the living room floor that looked like it had not been mopped. The balcony decking was tired and worn looking, there was chewing gum on the balcony floor and an empty bottle of beer and some material in the guttering of the balcony that must have been dropped there by a previous holiday maker. Then re maintenance some of the kitchen cupboards and the sink taps were loose, no instructions on how to use the tv or electric fire. There was a remote control in one of the kitchen drawers that I think may be for the fire but it had no batteries in it. We could not work the central heating as there were no instructions and one of the nights that we stayed was cold. I have to say that the beds and linen were very clean and comfortable and the bathroom was clean and the shower good. I have given 3 stars overall due to the property location and layout.

Original cottage we booked in N Yorkshire became unavailable due to a leak and Sykes were very quick and helpful in finding a number of possible alternatives.

We chose Bryn Ffynnon in Wales. We found the area really enjoyable with excellent walks on the Welsh Coastal Path. There are some very good beaches close by such as Whistling Sands which has facilities and free parking if you are a NT member. Coastal towns vary but we enjoyed Porthmadog particularly and then Abersoch. Portmeirion of course worth a visit and there is some good walking in the wooded areas with views across to Porthmadog. Bryn Ffynnon was comfortable and very well equipped. The old part of the house has the bedrooms, bathrooms and snug and the extension is a fabulous and large kitchen, diner and family room with extensive views towards the sea though the hedgeline does impact a little. There is a good log burner in the snug. The central heating is controlled by Hive in the kitchen (it doesn't get a signal in the old house) and the kitchen is warmer than the rest of the house. We found it best to turn down the radiators in the kitchen and turn up the temperature on Hive to get the snug radiators to work well. Games room with pool, air hockey and darts provides fun and the hot tub relaxation. The hot tub lid is heavy and a bit awkward so be careful, an area for improvement. Also note you are expected to check the hot tub water yourself (not sure the test strips were in date and they only had three test tabs whereas the comparison chart on the tub showed four) and then add chemicals appropriately. You do need to read the instructions on the chemical tubs carefully. For anyone who finds stairs difficult the access from the drive to the house is flat and there is downstairs bedroom with ensuite. Wife says BEWARE no hair dryer.

Pat welcomed us on arrival and showed us around her caravan of which she was obviously proud.

She also set out her expectations of us in looking after it! The caravan is about 17 years old but in very good condition and well maintained. It doesn't have a washing machine or dishwasher but there is a laundry facility on site. The decor is quite homely and to Pat's taste. There is a wifi and a modern TV with netfix etc. We were a family group of 3 adults and 3 children so the Wifi was important especially as the site is quite remote with little else for children to do. The first night (Saturday) we went to Aberdaron to eat out but all three restaurants were full and there was a huge queue for fish and chips! We eventually drove to Nefyn and had a nice curry in an Indian Restaurant called Bombay Joes (Open until 11pm and good availability. Every Restaurant on the way was fully booked and last orders were 8:30pm! Aberdaron is a cute but very small place and with some bad weather coming in we decided to go home a day earlier than planned.
