What our customers say about their holidays

I booked my break at Bellwether on a bit of a whim and Iâm so happy that I did!
The Shepherd Hut is a piece of idyllic heaven, hidden away in the countryside. By the time I left a week later, I felt completely revived and relaxed. Fiona & Tim have definitely provided everything that you will need for the duration of your stay here. Aside with how pristine and clean the hut was, I was also greeted with the sweet gesture of a lovely little welcome basket, filled with spring flowers, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, eggs and cute little bottles of juice and milk chilling away in the fridge. There is also a very detailed guide booklet provided for guests telling you everything you need to know for the duration of your stay. Also be aware the tiny log burner (starter pack is provided) REALLY does kick out some heat. You really will be lovely and toasty in the cooler months! There is a suitable little table top cooker (this thing is amazing) a pan set which sufficed! Glasses, cups, cutlery etc and a great little toaster & microwave. You literally will want for nothing - The bed is lovely and comfy and provided with both soft and hard pillows for your own preference - (who even thinks of this)? I arrived late in the evening and I couldnât get the internet to connect to my devices so Fiona & Becca very kindly popped across to help immediately. Honestly they couldnât do enough to help me before and during my stay - There is a little outside seating area with chiminea and undercover seating area too. All overlooking the beautiful views of the countryside. The little goats and sheep will come to greet you as you come and go every day (the sheep is always up for a petting) there was only bad side to my whole stay unfortunately - I had to go home! But I will definitely be booking to come back here and highly recommend this place if you want some peace, quiet and lovely scenery with owners that clearly care about what they do and will go above and beyond for their guests

This is potentially an excellent property in a superb location for exploring York and North Yorkshire.
However, we identified a number of issues that need to be addressed before we could recommend it to our friends or family, as follows: - It was extremely difficult to locate the property in the dark, as the lights on the gates were not in operation and we could not see the litter bin as it was small and black. - The drive was in a state of disrepair due to potholes and an uneven surface. - The parking spaces were sufficient for two cars but were extremely difficult to manoeuvre into due to the trees on the drive. - Ensure that you have provisions when you arrive, as there is no welcome pack of milk, etc, and the local shop closes relatively early! We had to go to Tesco, which is about 6 miles away. - The fridge was very small and did not have the milk bottle holder, as it was missing from the door, which made storage for 5 people very difficult. - There was only enough washing up liquid for one lot of washing-up!! - There was a hole in the lounge wall that looked unsightly. - The sofas were very uncomfortable, with no foot-stools - The shower head in the communal bathroom seemed to have some sort of bag tied around it. - All the beds were very uncomfortable and the mattresses in the Premier Inn we stayed in on the way up were luxurious in comparison. - The en-suite bathroom door could not be properly shut as there was a gap of about 3", which meant that there was no possibility of privacy. - The Highwayman Pub is the only place to eat locally and it is very good. However, it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Absolute heaven!
! What an amazing experience. Bellwether was a little piece of paradise in the North Yorks Moors! Far enough away from the madding crowd for complete tranquility yet just a stones throw from everything you could need and more. This quaint shepherd's hut was packed with all the amenities one could expect from a high star-rated hotel with lots of lovely little extras besides - freshly laid eggs, milk, flowers and goody hamper on arrival to name but a few. The cutest little wood burner supplied with ample logs really gave out some heat, but the underfloor heating was more than sufficient to make the accommodation cosy. With a beautiful vista over farmland and rolling hills to one aspect the outlook to the rear saw friendly little goats and a sheep (quiet and very well behaved!). Only booked for a short break so didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the chimnea heated patio area or the sheltered outside snug area. Truly fantastic. Can't wait to return!

My wife and I stayed at this lovely shepherds hut for a week while we explored the area.
We couldn't have been happier with our experience. Fiona was very welcoming, accommodating and kind. The shepherds hut was exactly as advertised and Fiona has it set up and organized in a way to make the best of a small space. The location is perfect honestly. Situated on a small farm and overlooking miles of uninterrupted English countryside it provides a place of peace and restoration. You are only 3 miles away from the lovely little town of Helmsley where you will find a quaint market square, small shops and excellent eaterys. Only half a mile away is a farm store complete with a great selection of groceries, spirits , restaurant and gift shop. You will not be disappointed should you choose to book Fionas hut. My wife and I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Thanks Fiona and all the best!

Just arrived back from a lovely week at the lodge.
Kay the host is very welcoming & on hand if needed. Gorgeous welcome treats from Terrington tea rooms, try the sweet chilli sausage rolls. The lodge is in a perfect location for visiting lots of neighbouring towns, York, the coast, Malton etc. Castle Howard is beautiful and a short drive away. There are several local pubs, Crown and Cushion was a good find with a pizza place opposite. The Lodge was very clean, beautiful views & animals, a lovely swing seat and of course the hot tub which was perfect to relax in at the end of the day. All looked very pretty with the fairy lights at night and is a good place to view stars weather permitting. The only feedback really would be there was no Internet/WiFi and I had zero signal so couldn't research things. Although it did give me a break from my phone
