What our customers say about their holidays
Sheena - Verified booking
It is a nice little cottage and cosy.
It was a shame that the fireplace and bread oven don't have some form of lighting, as the room was quite dark, even with the wall lights. The neighbours were very pleasant and the people in and around the village are very nice. There were one or two little issues. Although the owner had said that there was a problem with the plugs in the sink and basin, I found no problem with the sink, but when I put water into the basin in the bathroom and had pushed the plug down, I was constantly chasing the water down the plug hole, so you either had to keep the hot and cold tap running all the time you were washing, or fill the basin right up and wash before the water ran out. I felt this issue could have been solved by a new rubber ring on the plug, possibly. The shower seemed to be a bit stop start and luckily I was only washing my hair. it was almost like an air lock in the system. The back gate was getting more difficult to get in and out of, as it has either dropped or the latch doesn't fit properly. Make sure you take throws with you for the sofa and chair, whether you are taking dog/dogs or not, I am glad I took mine, as the sofa and chairs were a little marked in places as is the cushion on the window seat. More informative leaflets on places to go, walks, etc would be nice. The one telephone number missing in the welcome pack is the local Vets in case of emergency. Also an idea of where the nearest Supermarkets are would have been nice. Other than that, as I say it was nice and cosy and fairly quiet, but the lane was a little busy with traffic on occasions as it's the only access road to and from Kilve beach.

The house was lovely.
But this is the first Sykes property l have not been fully pleased with. Overall it was clean but the windows are grubby, the toilet door in the main bathroom didnât lock. The toilet seat was loose too. The hand shower in main bathroom hose covering coming off. Only one bed side table in bedroom with double bed. A shelf which is in an odd place was this to replace the bedside table? No proper measuring jug the one there no markings on or scales to weigh food with. No large tin to cook in. The oven sides keep filling off when you pull the tray out. The electric tripping out which l understand from the gardener happens due to changeover to another power station. The instructions to getting in garage not clear. Took us 20 min to find how to get in. Information folder not that informative. Have usually got info of attractions about where your staying and itâs places of interest. The church there is full of history well worth a visit like the little stall with fresh produce on. Have left leaflets of attractions in it for other people staying. The step for the trampoline turned up while we were there. I hope it has been put on. The garden is lovely to sit in of an evening and enjoy the sun going down. Some will say l am being picking but l have stayed in lovely maintained Sykes properties. This place needs a little TLC and l and my family would return.

Property wasnât ready at 3pm as was still being cleaned so had to ask cleaner if we could access property whilst she finished cleaning which was a bit annoying as after a long drive we just wanted to get straight in and unpacked.
The door to the main bathroom wouldnât lock as lock is faulty. Not really acceptable in a property that is like to be shared by more than one household. Also the door would open if the downstairs front door was opened as the draught would blow it open. There was a lot of dust on the wooden headboard on the master bedroom. One of the table lamps didnât work in the twin room. Surprised that this property doesnât have a barbeque so maybe a good addition to the property. The built in fridge/freezer doors werenât attached to the kitchen wooden doors as presume the latches had been previously broken and not repaired so you had to open the wooden doors first then the fridge freezer door. Finally the ladder to the trampoline is missing the cleaner did advise it had been taken the week prior but wasnât replaced during our week there so hopefully a replacement had been ordered. I would say maybe this property needs re-rating by Sykes as is starting to look tired and furniture downstairs could do with replacing.

Very disappointed and decided to leave 4 days into a 7 day stay.
Expectations were high and after unpacking and the dogs enjoying the garden we spent time looking around the lodge. Cleanliness was a major disappointment. We needed to wash glasses, plates and work surfaces due to a later of grease on them. A frying pan found was worse. The mop for the kitchen was still outside next to the wheelie bin. The bathroom had a mouldy shower mat, radiator thick with grime and dust and shower rail rusty. The bathroom shelf was also of no use as not fitted correctly. Upon looking at the double bed the mattress was just open foam with a topper on it. Also woken up at 6am daily from dogs barking at the owners house. We were expecting peace and tranquility. Toaster didn't work properly and due to the remote location a larger fridge and a useable freezer would have helped. Several items of food left in cupboards which can be a bonus however use by dates of Dec 2021 and Aug 2022 wasn't something that should be in the cupboards. Garden was great for the dogs.

The cottage was everything we expected.
Previous reviews were accurate and helped us make the most of the cottage and prepare for the parking. The cottage is beautiful, dog freindly, and our dogs loved it. It has everything you need, is well designed and well kept. Ideal for a couple with maybe one child, the pub and shop is a few.minutes walk,.and in the summer heat, the cottage keeps a perfectly cool temperature. Perfect for sleeping. Everything you need to know is explained in the booklets and the beach is a nice walk away. Parking at the beach is a bit dodgy, make sure you pay at the first 2 machines you see, it's designed to catch you out and pay a fine, I read many reviews including an action fraud investigation. Only improvements would be a slightly bigger TV , I felt.like I went back to the 80s, but everything we needed and could want was there.
