Holiday Cottages In Chesterfield

Found to the east of the Peak District, Chesterfield is a pretty market town in Derbyshire. Famous for its outdoor market, and with plenty of other great shopping opportunities, this town has plenty to offer anyone seeking a cottage holiday here.

In Chesterfield, you'll find half a dozen different shopping areas offering everything from crafts to fashion and more. With a good mix of independent shops and major retailers, you're sure to find what you're looking for. The crooked spire church is another major attraction of Chesterfield. Furthermore, the Peak District and a couple of magnificent stately homes are within easy reach of day trips. There is more than enough to see and do here.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Keith - Verified booking

We waited some three weeks to write this as we left very upset and did not want our emotions and feelings to prejudice our review.

Our car bogged down in the deep gravel, we moved it the following day. Six wall hooks is not enough storage for five nights stay. No inside foot mat, changed muddy shoes outside in the rain. Fold out dinning table not fit for purpose as it hits the wooden loft ladder. Ate all meals on our lap putting all beverages on the floor as no table. Watched five days of iPLAYER, no terrestrial channels due to location, we do not have Netflix or Sky accounts, No microwave listed in description but really missed when not there. No side lights or lampshade, kept loft light on as downstairs ceiling lights far too bright due to low ceiling and white walls. After two nights in the loft we slept on the sofa-bed, we felt it too risky reversing out of bed with 3' headroom in the dark to negotiate a 9' ladder to go to the loo whilst half asleep. If your partner goes to the loo at night chances are you will be awoken. 'Sofa-bed' is lumpy, bumpy with stains and extremely uncomfortable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On our last day we awoke to find the hob, oven and radiator had lost their programme, we informed Louisa and her husband came to assist. He was wonderful, boiling our milk and reassuring us he would fix whilst we were out walking. He explained power cuts were frequent and this was most probably the cause. Whilst walking we received a random PDF file from Louisa for a LAM3410 oven and hob stating, 'hope this helps'. We explained her husband was resolving the issue and without any fact finding or investigation we received upsetting and confrontational texts stating we had locked it, we had used it all week and previous guests had managed to use them properly for two years. We explained Louisa's husband stated it was a power cut but this was ignored. We stated we had been hill walking for six hours and would have no cooking facilities on our return. We had to trawl though eighteen pages of text to find out how to unlock the hob before we could start cooking. We also received a text saying 'I hope the oven is working as you haven't said otherwise'. Due to the power cut the oven showed 'STOP', at 9pm we were downloading a Lamon3410 oven PDF, we fixed this at 10pm. We texted Louisa saying it would be nice to meet before we left to resolve any issues between us but we never met our host or received the courtesy of a reply. Our check out time was 10am but we left at 08.40 as we just wanted to leave. On returning home we finally contacted the Lamona service helpline who confirmed a 'LOCK' and a 'STOP' on both appliances at the same time would be the result of a power cut and referred us to the youtube channel below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_jTeLXvG0o&t=3s The property affords a wonderful location and view, unfortunately the novelty of this soon wears off when one has to stay for five nights.

We had a lovely 4 days here, we were so lucky with the weather as this summer has been very hit and miss.

Swallows Barn is easily the best property we have stayed in, in the UK. From the start going up the long private drive, we knew this was going to be a special place. It has everything you could ask for, private back garden with a lovely seating area it is a great suntrap. The front of the property also has a seating area and BBQ (we never used this) with an absolutely fantastic view over the fields. There is so much space outside, I would say ideal for children, and safe. We saw birds of prey, rabbits, cows and of course lots of swallows. Inside was just a wow factor for all of us when we first walked in, we were so taken aback with it, it was clean ,it is very spacious, it has two living areas, one with a piano and two big relaxing comfortable sofa's, the room with the piano in was our favourite room, as it looks out onto the fields. The main bedroom downstairs is gorgeous, the ensuite has a slipper style bath which was well used, very luxurious with some bubble bath :) The kitchen is very well equipped with everything you need. We did however have some builder's turn up during our stay that wanted to start some work and said they needed access through the kitchen to replace a post on a gate, obviously we wasn't too happy, and after a conversation that my husband had with them all was well and they left, but it isn't what you would normally expect when you go away on holiday. We met the cleaning lady (sorry I didn't ask her name) who was lovely and friendly. We had a problem with a steering lock on my car and had to call a locksmith out to the property to 'free' us, the cleaning lady was helpful lending us an extension so we could hoover up the mess. We couldn't get the Bose sound system to work with the tv, I don't know if it was just us or we were doing something wrong, it wasn't too important anyway. Took us a a little while to work the oven out. We walked to the Bulls Head not realising it was closed on a Monday, should have checked the times, so we walked just a little further and had a pint at Lambs Inn instead :) Our break was quite eventful but we still had a wonderful relaxing break :) We can't wait to stay again sometime. Thank you, you have a beautiful place.

As in previous reviews the location and views from the property are very good, also the property itself is nice, however my concerns are the lack of Facilities and the price for the property.

For just a few £££'s more I could have had a detached 2/3 Bedroomed House/Cottage, whereas this property is Very Small, not sure how you would fit in a Cot as well? Facility wise it is a bit sparse. If you plan to Fry some food forget it as there is no extraction available, so I'd avoid that, also there is no Micro-Wave, which is strange these days. If you plan to stay for a week then be aware that there are no storage facilities for clothes or even for food, although you will probably be eating out? The Hot water for pot washing only last a couple of minutes before it goes cold. To watch TV you have to keep removing the ladder out of the way. The bedroom doesn't fit my description of a bedroom, it is basically a mattress on a loft floor, no cupboards or drawers or mirrors also very little headroom, about 2', so it's a "crawl" to get in and out of bed. The upper "bedroom" is not suitable for anyone that might have disabilities etc. due to having to climb a ladder to access the mattress. The lighting is very bright, so a Table Lamp would be helpful for nighttime. We never got to me the hosts, so I can't comment on that. I know this is a negative review, and I'm sorry to leave one, but people should be made aware of the limitations that they will encounter. For me this was booked on the "Spur of the Moment", so I guess I'm partially to blame for not reading the comments etc. If you are just doing a 1/2-night stay, then this would be ideal, but anything over, in my opinion, would need a bit of consideration.

This is a beautiful house in a nice quiet peaceful area.

The house is tastefully decorated throughout. The conservatory was lovely to sit in and eat or just relax. The bath is a good size and great to soak in. The bed we used was comfortable and we slept well. The kitchen was a good size and well laid out. It was a pleasure to cook there. We enjoyed spending time in the garden and it is very dog friendly and private. The owner was very responsive and welcoming and left a welcome pack which was very welcome indeed. Nearby are two playgrounds, a park, playing field and canal. The local shop is just across the road. Two pubs within easy reach. The No 90 bus takes you straight to a big Tesco and a big Sainsbury and the bus stop is only a short walk down the road. There is a regular bus service running from the main road so it is easy to get into Brimmington or Chesterfield. The Owner left plenty of leaflets about things to do if you come with a car. There is a garage for off-road parking. We had a lovely time here and liked it so much we didn't want to leave and booked an extra week so stayed 3 weeks instead of 2. It was relaxing and just what we needed. Would highly recommend.

Beautiful quiet and tranquil barn conversion, we loved it here.

Felt secluded safe and private but close to all amenities. Clean and fresh on arrival. Fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. Comfy beds and seating, fantastic powerful shower in upstairs bedroom, relaxing roll top bath in the downstairs bedroom, 3 toilets in total . Total relaxation from everyday life with plenty of room and ample storage. Beautiful gardens, totally private with lots of seating, table and sun brollies. Wifi and phone signal brilliant. Superb all round, a credit to the owner. We could gladly live here. The 3 outside doors lock automatically when closing so easy to lock yourself out so make sure you use the provided doorstops or have the key, if not there is a spare key in the key safe so remember the key safe number. Only slight criticism would be there was a brief 5 second loud grinding sound when toilets were flushed or the shower turned on but would still highly recommend this property and plan to return .
