What our customers say about their holidays

  • Trudi - Verified booking

We've just returned from an absolutely wonderful 4 nights in the Declaration Suite over the Easter bank holiday.

The apartment was very well appointed and IMMACULATE, with a spotless kitchen and mould/watermark free bathrooms - even the skirting boards were dust free! The beds were very comfortable and the main bed was wider than a King. The second bedroom was arranged as two singles for our teenagers; both beds were comfortable and there was a fantastic dressing table, which our daughter was very pleased to discover! The owners supplied thick, soft blankets which were perfect for sofa snuggles, and protecting the lovely white bedding from paw prints. The music theme decor included a record player (which the kids had never seen before!) with Bluetooth technology, keeping everyone entertained. Everything Jules and Mike advertised is accurate - the owners really do care about guests having a fantastic experience. Gail managed our stay personally, sharing local information, offering to make table reservations, and checking in on us to see if we were happy or needed anything at all. She also recommended a local takeaway that we ordered from on JustEat - recommend the pizza! We didn't try any restaurants/pubs, but there were plenty to choose from locally, and in Prestatyn and Rhyl. First class service, in a first class establishment! Points to consider: 1) the high windows have roller blinds blinds, which are very easy to use, but allowed light in through all sides - easily reduced by putting spare pillows on the windowsills to block the gap! We would take blindfolds next time. 2) there are OODLES of sightseeing and walking opportunities nearby; definitely take walking boots/shoes as the local typography is very hilly. There's a flat, paved beach walk/cycle from Prestatyn to Rhyl, which took us an hour to walk both ways with the dog. Be aware that the path is open to dogs, but the sandy beaches aren't from May until after the summer. Check when the tide goes out if you want sandy toes in the a.m.! 3) there's a Tesco, Lidl and Aldi a short drive away (plus the usual shops found on retail parks). We would've packed less food and shopped locally after arriving. 4) if you're not used to sleeping in a flat/apartment, you might consider ear plugs, just in case the guests above you are up later than you are. The first guests above us made more noise, but the second guests were very quiet and didn't disturb us at all. Gail was thoughtful and vigilant in ensuring guests were aware and considerate of eachother.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this lodge with a group of 10 adults, and I must say it was an exceptional experience.

The lodge's interior was beautifully decorated, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere. It was fully equipped with everything we needed, making our stay convenient and hassle-free. The cleanliness of the lodge was impeccable, and the spaciousness was a pleasant surprise, giving us plenty of room to relax and unwind. The kitchen was well-appointed, allowing us to prepare our meals effortlessly. The lounge area was outstanding, with comfortable sofas that were perfect for lounging and socializing. The bedrooms were a good size, and the beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The bathrooms were large and spotlessly clean, featuring excellent showers that offered a refreshing start to our days. The icing on the cake was the nice hot tub, which provided a soothing and enjoyable way to relax after our adventures. What truly stood out was how accommodating the lodge was to our needs. The landlord was incredibly attentive and friendly, making sure our stay was nothing short of fantastic. The lodge's location in a nice area added to the overall appeal, allowing us to enjoy the natural surroundings. The only minor issue we encountered during our stay was that the TV in the main lounge had a crackly sound when we turned up the volume. However, this was a minor inconvenience that did not significantly detract from our overall enjoyment of the lodge. The other wonderful amenities and the excellent service we received more than made up for this small hiccup. In summary, our stay at this lodge was nothing short of exceptional. From the beautiful decor to the comfortable amenities and the accommodating landlord, it was a memorable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway.

    Extremely spacious and comfortable.

The accommodation was very well situated, with many local amenities available. The kitchen and dining area are a great size, with lots of storage available. The living room spaces and bedrooms were also all very well-sized, and the beds were very comfy. The Wendover Pub itself was also really good, and we didn't hear any noise from the pub during our stay. There were a few little issues, but nothing that can't be easily fixed: the TV in the second sitting room (not in the kitchen area) was temperamental, with the picture and sound quality dipping at various points; the blinds in the first bedroom (by the sitting room) were broken and lying on the floor when we arrived (we placed them back up, but they're not affixed, so they could come down again if disturbed); there was only one pan in the kitchen, so cooking for a large group was a little difficult at times; there were a few broken or damaged items in the accommodation (glass table in the main sitting room was cracked, multiple curtain hooks had been pulled off, legs on one of the couches in the second sitting room had come off (we fixed them back on, but they could potentially come off again if the couch was moved)); some of the areas/work surfaces were a little dusty and/or sticky). However, these are all minor issues that could easily be rectified, and didn't significantly impact our stay. Overall, it was a very affordable, spacious and pleasant accommodation that I would highly recommend to others.

I believe we left the cottage cleaner than we found it.

But that may have been the fault of the previous people. The fridge was dirty and had to be cleaned before we could use it. The bed was lumpy but it didn't take long until i found out how to position body between lumps. More of an observation than a complaint - The tv is in the wrong position, maybe too high on the wall, but luckily the weather was nice so we sat outside most evenings. Same for the bathroom cabinet, a little bit to high for wife to use, she isn’t that short at 5ft 4in, I’m a little taller and found it useable. Yes it was next to the main road, but you quickly get used to the road noise so not a bother. The little stream that runs under the bridge was just perfect to fall asleep to in the sun. You can fit two folding chairs on the balcony and was really nice to sit and watch the sunset on the fields. We made use of the bbq a few time, everything was provided but we brought our own coals so used them. We used the washing machine, again placed too high to see where to put the soap so it went in the drum. The tumble drier is not free to use so we didnt. WiFi is slow, i was getting fast speeds on my phone so used that, this is not the owners fault, as the phone signal was patchy at best during our stay. Slightly over priced in my opinion.

It wasn't the worst accomodation we ever stayed in.

What we loved was the view towards the fields, with the sheep and cows grazing from dawn to dusk, the wind mills in the distance and being next to the stone bridge, all gave it a holiday feel. The property is close enough to get to any places in North Wales in reasonable times. We liked the enclosed yard area, safe for the dog, and the two seating areas. The accommodation was clean enough, surface cleaning as usual. We learned that is pointless to complain about that. A musty smell persists in the flat, and we kept all windows open when we were in. The owner should really check and get sorted those few problematic mouldy places. The sofa there is the most uncomfortable piece of furniture, especially when trying to watch tv( on the days with non stop rain, stretching your neck like a giraffe). The noise in the bedroom from the high traffic road literally next to the cottage, is something else...Earplugs in... New soundproof window should be put in and the hole above filled in properly, not with kitchen roll paper... All in all, we would probably go back if needed.
