What our customers say about their holidays

Absolutely amazing place to stay and a beautiful well decorated cottage with period features.
Stunning great surroundings everything you could ask for in a relaxing break. The property had a good Sky package and wifi. The property is in a good location and not far from places of interest which you may wish to visit. The mattress in the main bed room could do with a change and the 3rd bed room was a bit dusty and felt damp. The mobile network was not great had good Wifi in the property. If you plan to order for a Tesco delivery during your stay, pls do get the correct post code. The post code that comes on Skyes booking is for the cottage owners.. Our delivery was collected by the cottage owner and we were not informed of the same. With no network there was no way to call Tesco to check why the delivery had not arrived. So literally we had nothing in the cottage for coffee / BF the day we arrived . . The cottage owners had left our stuff in boxes and being a hot day the milk etc was bound to have gotten bad and not a word of apology for not getting in touch with us which was a bit annoying. Tesco was not helpful either as they said they can cancel the order and we shopped for the entire lot of stuff required for our stay. and later past lunch time and when we had finished shopping we get a call from the owners to say the stuff was with them.Really put us off.. Was a wasted day 1 for us waiting for tesco and having double the stock of what we wanted. A lesson well learn was to call the contact number and get the correct post code.

Lovely setting and beautiful house that unfortunately needs a good spring clean.
Apart from the kitchen the rest of the house is full of dust and cobwebs and dead insects.the double bedroom is particularly dirty with thick dust on the headboard and dust and hairs on carpet.the furniture is very out dated and shabby.the sofa cushions are very dirty and worn and under them I found old sweets and bits of food!under the sofas the floor is very dusty.I had to clean both bath and shower before use as although they had been superficially cleaned they both had hairs in them.bathroom cabinet dirty down the sides and inside cupboard and toilet bowl covered in hairs at floor level. All doors downstairs need wiping down. The electric was off for several hours one day due to maintenance work of which we were not given notice of until it was actually off, only later to learn from a neighbour that they had been noticed 4 weeks earlier of power cut!in a message the owner claimed she had not picked up her messages from power company which may have been true but 4 weeks is plenty of time to have done so!if we had known it would not have been a problem we could have got up earlier and had breakfast before electric went off.I know I could have raised The cleanliness issues with the owner at the time but didnât want cleaners coming in for the day whilst we were there and canât think of how else this matter could have been resolved.

What a lovely cottage with plenty of room for the whole family.
We met the owner as we arrived slightly early and she was really friendly and helpful. The cottage was spotlessly clean, full of character and charm. The outside was very pretty with plenty of space to park both cars right by the front door. The garden is contained via low walls and a gate - great for dogs or young children. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, spotless oven, microwave and lovely to have such a big freezer separate from the fridge. The sitting room was spacious and comfortable with a freeview tv setup. The three bedrooms were clean and pretty - the front bedroom with ensuite shower was particularly light and airy which was helpful as one of our group has very limited sight. The family bathroom was clean and modern with a large good quality shower (although I recommend working out how to turn it on to get hot water before turning it on or you will end up rather chilly - turn the dial round to 3 o'clock). In terms of location, we found it perfect as a real country escape in stunning countryside. There was a very quiet road outside while being only a short drive into the nearby town with all the usual amenities such as supermarket, chemist etc. as well as being surrounded by fabulous walks. Loved the area and would definitely recommend this cottage. We plan to come back!

We really enjoyed our stay at the old stables.
Itâs in a super spot only 10 minutes from Kirkby Lonsdale. Beautiful countryside views from windows upstairs. Itâs a big cottage so plenty of room for the four of us. The new kitchen was a bonus - very smart! The cottage could do with an update in places particularly the carpets in the bedrooms. The twin bedroom off the utility has a musty damp smell. Bed sheets in this room were very old/worn too and could do with an update. It also needs a thorough spring clean - lots of cobwebs in the main lounge and bathrooms dusty in places. Kitchen equipment issues - knives not sharp and the bottle opener was bent. Also no information book was left like in other cottages Iâve been tooâ¦.would have been useful to have recommendations for pubs and restaurants and local walks. When I mentioned the musty smell to the owner she claimed it was to do with our dirty walking boots which was a ridiculous statement as the smell was there when we arrived. Unfortunately the owners took my issues with cleanliness in a personal way. They did come over on the first day and clean the twin bedroom off the utility again & main bathroom (after me speaking to a Sykes agent). Also towels should have been provided like in other cottages Iâve stayed in.

Property was lovely and clean.
However we encountered an issue with the oven which tripped the electrics. This has obviously been an ongoing issue as there was a sign advising not to use certain appliances at the same time as it would trip. As a consequence we could not cook any food. The owner reimbursed us for the cost of a takeaway. However the location meant we had to make unnecessary trips out as a family at additional cost as there wasnât anything nearby to eat. Weâd also purchased food to be cooked in the oven which was frozen and that had to be thrown away as we hadnât brought anything suitable to transport it home. Additional unnecessary cost and we were refunded £34 for one takeaway. We also had to have our stay interrupted by the maintenance team coming to measure for a new oven , appreciate they need to do this in order to fix it but it didnât help us feel settled and relaxed. Really disappointed as we had to completely change our plans and go out when the intention was to stay in and not travel (which I do for a living hence needing the break). Lodge and location are lovely, shame about the issue we encountered letting it down.
