What our customers say about their holidays
Catherine - Verified booking
We really enjoyed our stay, although the neighbours were extremely difficult.
When we arrived we pulled into the bay by the property to unload our belongings, a young woman from the house in front of the bay immediately came out and shouted at us, she also insulted me when I told her we were only unpacking our stuff, we didnât plan on parking there. The lady at the back said thereâs been a lot of bother from them; however they didnât bother us again. Then my husband and I were in the kitchen with the door open at the back when a large dog came bounding through the door and tried to attack me, my husband threw water on it and was able to intimidate the dog so that it moved and we managed to barricade ourselves behind the back door until finally my husband closed the door. I was quite shaken by the experience. My husband shouted through the window for the neighbour at the end to get his dog- he didnât and it continued to bark aggressively at us from behind the door; bearing its teeth and ready to attack when we tried to open/close the door window to shout to the man. He was actually hiding behind his gate as we could see him ducking behind the door. Iâm concerned that if I had have been a child or my new 12 week old puppy- this would have been a sad story. I loved the cottage though, so beautiful, comfortable and clean. I would say that I wouldnât take children or elderly people, just in case. Unless the problem is resolved but how could you resolve this? I would not allow this to stop you renting this property- it really is that good, just be careful about the parking and be careful in the shared backyard where thereâs no gate between you and the end neighbours with the dog. (The neighbour has a gate but heâd obviously opened it to let his dog out). Ok, so the garden is absolutely gorgeous, very quirky set up on two/three levels. Lovely lady lives next door feeds the seagulls everyday, be careful thereâs loads of them that flock there- not a problem for us as we werenât home in the morning. BBQ area is pleasantly arranged and plenty of seating and cushions. The lights didnât work when we were there, but we werenât in the garden late anyway. Overall I would stay here again because it felt very homely, but Iâd be extremely careful out the back door in the communal yard part. We never saw the dog before or after it attacked us. There is a gate on the main garden and itâs one step from the back door. Just be careful as you always are in public areas. And donât speak to the house on the left of the property, very rude. The heating was perfect, bedding ok, decor and condition of the place was just right and spotlessly clean. In a near perfect location. Two large Terraces that look across the bay- stunning. Thanks again.

The barn is furnished to a reasonable standard and is adequately equipped.
The bedroom a little less spacious but the bed is comfortable. The accommodation is well heated. The upstairs bathroom is well set out, although it was problematic getting hot water to come through. The internet connection is totally unreliable and kept falling out throughout our stay. In 2025 it is expected when renting property to have full reliable internet connection. This impacts on communication and has a negative impact on the holiday as a whole. The TV is also a necessity, the only connection is an Apple TV box, which without an apple subscription is useless. At the very least Freeview should be provided. The TV is only a smart to when connected to the internet, this one needed an Ethernet wired connection, which sadly wasnât present. There was no wheelie bin or information regarding the disposal of rubbish. A little more information about the facilities in the property would have been helpful, for example, the hob has no visible settings and no manual available, difficult to know high or low heat. There is a manual for the oven. Thank you for the welcome pack, much appreciated.

This is both the best holiday accommodation and most dog friendly accommodation we have stayed in.
The property was beautifully appointed and had so many great dog friendly facilities. As owners of a large dog, we were delighted that the garden was properly secure (high fences) and spacious. There were also a selection of dog bowls, a hamper of dog towels and a hamper of dog blankets for the furniture, if you have a sofa dwelling dog. The kitchen was very well equipped, with excellent quality kitchen ware. A great bonus is the upstairs entertainment room, with a massive TV, XBox, DVDs,CDs, books and a computer desk with monitors. The beds were comfortable, the showers were large with good water pressure, the towels were soft and there were even slippers and robes. Having stayed out of season, we were glad it was nice and warm in the house. I can imagine, it would be lovely to sit out in the garden in the summer. It is also in a great location; Wigton, nearby has good facilities, Carlisle is only 20 minutes or so up the road, or head south for the Lakes, north for Hadrianâs Wall, or west for the coast.

We really enjoyed our stay at Mousehole Cottage.
In a beautiful and tranquil, rural location, it's close to amenities while still enabling the feeling of getting away from it all. We received a warm welcome, and felt every detail has been thoughtfully considered, from milk in the fridge to spare dog bowls and poop bags, dishwasher tablets to plenty of reading matter. The property was beautifully clean and we really appreciate use of the agility course too - our 12 year old dog needed to let off some steam in the cooler evenings! The poultry onsite definitely added an extra layer of personality to the stay and it's lovely to see them ambling around and occasionally coming to say hello. The locals are all friendly too, from the local shop to the pub, we felt very at home. Would definitely book again, we highly recommend!

Very warm and comfortable cottage.
Thoughtful welcome pack well above averageâ¦thank you! Plenty of hot water after a day on the fells and plenty of space. A massive hallway to put boots, kit and wet gear. Also, a large lounge with comfortable couch and full dining table. Kitchen compact but with everything youâd need and unusually plenty of storage space. There was no freezer. Internet flaky and didnât work more than it did work. Telly didnât work at all and radio only tuned to radio 4! I went for peace and quiet anyway, and had books to read. Surroundings very quiet and a comfy bed so slept well. Parking okay for one car but tight parking generally in the village. Garden doesnât belong to the annex but there was an open green area 2 minutes away to walk the dogs. I had a brilliant week!
