What our customers say about their holidays
Paul - Verified booking
We booked the same cottage that we rented last year.
Itâs very compact but it does the job for the week and the location is convenient and quiet. Last year after our stay we were asked to write a review - and generally I gave a good overall rating. I did however give the owner a private snagging list of things we thought would be helpful for them to know and which would hopefully make other guests have a better experience. Little things like the knobs on the inside of the bathroom door were pulling off and the toilet roll holder on the wall was very loose and near to falling off. There was no veg peeler in the kitchen drawer and no small oven trays to cook food on in the oven so we had to use the huge grill pan instead. The fridge is a larder fridge with no freezer compartment. The toaster was also faulty with the heating elements only working on 3 sides. Returning to the same property this year we found the issues in the bathroom have been addressed however, we were disappointed to find that the kitchenette is exactly as it was. Fortunately we brought with us our own utensils and disposable metal trays. There were no oven gloves available and the washing up liquid was watered down. After our visit last year the owners of the property probably thought theyâd never see us again and probably thought the missing/faulty items in the kitchenette were too minor to bother with. Iâm of a different opinion and feel strongly enough to put my views into my public review. Additionally the property is quite dusty this visit and overall looks less well cared for. The yard outside is a jungle of weeds and very uninviting and one of the neighbours was very unwelcoming and told us we shouldnât be parking on the cobbles. Our decision is that we wonât be returning to this particular property again.

The flat is comfortable, and decorated nicely.
However finding it was an issue, as there is no sign or number on the door and the parking situation is tricky with it being on a split double bend with double yellow lines so we had problems locating the flat and unloading when we arrived, it would be useful to be clear about the location on the advert. Also, advertising it as a cottage seems a little misleading. It is a flat with steep stairs from the front door to the lounge and kitchen and further steep stairs to the bedrooms. We would not have booked it had this been clear in the advert, my mother is 82 and disabled which made it really challenging for her. The 'balcony' area off the kitchen needs a good clean up, there were lots of wasps and it was slimy underfoot with lots of leaves. Not an area of any use really and there is no outside area for a dog despite it being a dog friendly property. However, the location is great - very central, and we were pleased with the double glazing as we could hardly hear the roads and wine bar next door. Could have used some microwavable dishes, and instructions for the microwave/grill thing and it was disappointing to find we were allocated three clothes hangers each, and no wardrobes or anywhere to hang towels. Lastly, this is the first place in 20 years where there was no welcome gift, but we got over that. Great place to explore Holmfirth and the surrounding Pennines and Peaks from but not ideal for dogs, elderly, or disabled people.

The property is lovely.
The views are exceptional. The suite in the lounge has been updated and is now a comfortable brown leather, with double reclining couch. The main bed is very comfortable, but it only has a double quilt. I brought my king-size quilt in, because I find a double quilt on a double bed is not big enough. And the mattress protector and sheet were very tight and kept moving in the night - they were a bit of a nuisance. The kitchen is well-equipped, but some things are missing like foil or cling film, or tongs. They may not be a problem for most. And I was surprised that there is no washing machine, with it being walking country. The bathroom was very clean, but the grout and sealant need replacing all around. The front garden was fairly secure for my little dog, although more adventurous ones would jump the low fence. And I would plead with other guests to please pick up after your dog. I picked up lots of mess that had been left. The rear yard is not enclosed and my dog decided to explore and ended up in someone's garden at the end of the block! All in all, a very nice place in a lovely setting. Would recommend.

The cottage is in a very nice location and benefits from lovely views.
The kitchen is well-equipped (although a few more plates are needed) and the rooms are overall spacious. However the house is in need of a deep clean, there is mildew on all the window frames and mouldy patches on walls. The bathroom needs updating and the floor tiles are very slippery so caution is advised for anyone with young children or mobility issues. The central heating is controlled by a timer and only comes on at certain times (early morning, midday for one hr only and in the evening) which was inconvenient if you needed warmth during daytime and you weren't out all day. Please note that the cottage is not connected to water mains supply and tap water is coming from springs in the area, therefore unchlorinated. We used bottled water for drinking. This was not stated in the listing and it is important for people with weakened immunity/babies or ones who want to avoid buying bottled water.

Pros - right in the centre of Holmforth near all visitor attractions Clean inside and cosy Cons NO PARKING, did specify there was parking on the advert but had to park in the local CO--OP £6.
50 a day ( x2) which owner said she would pay . After several calls and texts said she would, but did not refund. ):. Very noisy at night till early hours , it is a joined to a wine bar so expected at weekends. Avoid front bedroom if you are a light sleeper. Stairs very steep, I am very fit, but I was going up with my hands before me on the stairs. This has already been mentioned by a previous review ,as he had fallen down them.- suggested a hand rail but nothing fitted. Please note- no number on the door, so very difficult to find. We arrived at around 3pm and it was chaotic trying to find the airbnb, traffic extremely busy. Again a previous review mentioned no number on the door, but again nothing had been done. This would cost about £2 for a couple of stickers and save a lot of hassle! I hope you don't find this review too negative, I am always honest .
