What our customers say about their holidays

Based on a Christmas stay for 8 adults costing £2200 The positives are: Great location for access to beach & walking/Burgh Island The beds are very comfortable and the bathrooms modern with good showers.
The dog bed etc is a thoughtful addition The table top football provided a lot of fun Big kitchen/workspace and the outdoor area is spacious and very useable Gated safe community We didn't have hot water when we arrived but the problem was sorted swiftly. Plenty of parking, we parked 3 cars and the electric charger was a positive for us. Some negatives: The house looks over a BIG caravan park, it was closed at Christmas but I should imagine the noise and traffic would be a nuisance in summer. It's a very disappointing view. The house is well equipped and a sociable space, but lacks a cosy feel, therefore it made it difficult to relax fully. And because it's lacks soft furnishings noise bounces around, especially when the table top football is in action! The sofa area particularly needs some rethinking, it provides a place to watch TV, but isn't sociable because you are all sat in a line, rather than a group. The coffee table is too small and you can't reach it from the sofa. If you use Challaborough on SAT NAV instead of postcode you come into the area via a tarmac road rather than a very narrow dirt track with a lot of potholes! This would seem a more sensible way to arrive. We also noted the following: Only one champagne glass Wine glasses could do with being upgraded Fridge is small for 8 and the door doesn't seem to shut fully. Cooker small for cooking for 8 adults Table is a tight squeeze for 8 adults Could do with a second shoe tray, not big enough for 16 shoes! Not sure the extractor fans were working, alarms set off twice 'Wardrobes' not very practical, no drawers for jumpers/t-shirts etc. We had an enjoyable stay, but based on the above we'd not revisit, or recommend to friends. It is a great location for the beach and walking but didn't provide us with a warm cosy feeling. Might be better for a summer stay, although you'd then be sharing the beach with 350 static caravan families!!

We stayed at May cottage with our two elderly parents and it was a perfect location, being so close to the sea and so easy to carry chairs and cups of tea down to the jetty.
Walking up onto Bolberry Down and swimming in the clear lovely sea most days was a delight and hard to leave at the end of the week. Itâs set in a perfect location. The cottage was beautifully decorated, sparklingly clean and the beds, sofas etc super comfy. The bedding/towels were very luxurious and hotel quality. The kitchen was well equipped though we were surprised to have to go out and buy bin bags, salt & pepper, washing up liquid, hand soap, toilet rolls, anti-bac and dishwasher tabs. A couple of small suggestions would be to have a gate to stop dogs (and small children) running into the road as youâre getting out of the front door, and a couple of discreet grab rails - my father was too unsteady to use the shower as there was nothing to hold onto. We used the courtyard a lot for meals and would have liked not to have to clear it of dog poo first / and it could have been a bit tidier though I know itâs hard to keep on top of a Holiday cottage garden. We used our own beach parasol as there was no shade over the table. This might be outside of your control but the guests in the cottage next door were a large young group partying till at least 2am every night and we could hear every word - loud laughter/singing/generally âhaving a good timeâ - even a cough or sneeze echoed straight in through the bedroom windows on that side (maybe reflected off the walls). So not much sleep (they were quiet one night after we asked them). Despite that we really loved our holiday and were blessed with the best possible hot weather. The info from Coast and Country was good but I wasnât at all impressed we had to pay £200 extra to move our booking due to covid - and there was no option to cancel and have a refund. (I have cottages myself and have given full refunds throughout).

We had an idyllic week at May Cottage.
The house and the location are even better than we expected, and the photos on the website don't really do it justice. Everything in the house - decoration, furniture, equipment, utensils, etc. is of the highest quality. The house has been furnished and equipped as a family home, not just as a holiday let. The downstairs is open plan - bright, airy and a perfect mix of contemporary style and tradition. The bedrooms are all spacious and comfortable - the view from the king-size bed in the main bedroom out the window to the sea is particularly memorable. The patio is private and enclosed, with sunshine all day, plenty of seating (table & chairs - no recliners) and a gas BBQ. The location of the house is perfect - it is on the edge of the village in Inner Hope, so very quiet while still only a couple of minutes walk to the centre of the village. We could walk 30m down the road to walk on the beach (when the tide is out) or sit on the sea wall with a glass of wine and watch the amazing sunsets. The house is also only 30m from steps up to the coastal path, and within 5 minutes you are on the cliffs overlooking the cove with miles of footpaths over the cliffs to explore at your leisure. All in all, it is a fantastic house and location - we all loved it, and were very reluctant to leave it and return to the real world.

We loved the cottage, a lot of thought and love has clearly gone into making it so comfortable and welcoming.
We booked very last minute as the weather looked good and the booking was really easy. Beds and sofas very comfy and WiFi was great (I had to work in the mornings so that was a relief)! No BBQ despite the listing and garden was very pretty but quite overgrown so top sections not very accessible - didnât bother us as we were out most of the time. No toilet brush! We hadnât realised there was no washing machine - normally not a problem as who wants to do washing on hols but as the weather was so hot it would have been good to be able to wash sand suncream and salt out of clothes - my husband didnât bring enough. But we are too happy enjoying being to swim every day and enjoy the weather to care! And we could see it would be very difficult to install one due to space in the kitchen which was otherwise perfect and worked well⦠The little coffee shop along the road was great, amazing bread and a nice thing to have in the village. Will definitely be back - a quiet alternative to overpriced Salcombe accommodation! Thank you for letting us stay.

We stayed in May Cottage in 2020 , thoroughly enjoying the location.
Sadly there has been no investment in the property over the past year. The upstairs blinds are badly soiled and need cleaning. The family shower head is too big for the attachment and has a tendency to spray everywhere when turned on full. Underneath the beds need to be cleaned as there was residue dust and articles visible. This was apparent when looking for something which had been misplaced. As it is a house accommodating 8 it needs a larger fridge. The oven needs replacing as it does not work efficiently. Down each side needs a good clean as there is a collection of food detritus. A suggestion - move the washing machine to the back room and install a tumble drier. As it is a property which allows pets please ensure sofas are cleaned appropriately as the far sofa smelt of animals as it did in 2020 requiring a deep clean when in situ. At a cost of @£3200 per week and an increase of @ for 2022 more is needed. We would not hesitate to recommend the location but feel the rental price is now excessive for what the property provides.
